Question about tranny swap and speedo

This is a question about a hardbody tranny but hoping I can get some help here.

 

I have a 95 2wd HB that the tranny went out in. I swapped for a 91 tranny. In 94 Nissan changed from mechanical to electronic speedo. I pulled the speedo sensor from the 95 tranny (working when I pulled it)and installed it in the 91 tranny but now speedo is not working.

 

I have been told that it should have worked. Any ideas?

Did you not swap the gear?

Gear from inside the '95 tranny to the '91 tranny or gear on the end of the speed sensor?

Was the new tranny from a 4x4? If so it might not have the guts for the speedo since they pull off the T-case. Just wondering if you looked or just pluged it in.
