Sky Rocket Temp Gauage

I have a 92 TD 2.7t and the temp gauge seems to love to Sky Rocket on even the smallest hills

This is what I have done so far, all have made a slight improvement but hasnt seemed to fixed the problem

First off I did the Themostate,

Then replaced the Temp senser and put in an aftermarket gauage to see exactly what temps we talking about, Its normal running Temp is 180 degress Ferherit then on even small hits it will sky rocket up to around 210 degress, typically within 2-3 mins she b back to normal temp, but when thrashing it off road the needle will stay up above boiling point for a long time untill u easy off for a while.

I have sinced cheaked the viscous fan that seems all good, so I had the radiator cheaked it looked fine but we recoiled it anyway.

She still sky rockets, and I have recently discovered if you run it at full revs for serveral minutes the radiator begins to foam and bubble, thinking @!*% it could be the head we did a compression test that came back all fine and it doesnt appear to be using any oil and the oil is nice and black.

I did the themostate a second time, just to be sure, and tested the old one but its not the problem.

The only thing that I can think off that could still be the probelm is something to do with the water pump,

It has had the sky rocketing temp gauage since I have owned it, but im sure it isnt normal from what Ive learnt from talking to other terrano owners. So anyone got any Ideas????

Also its just clicked over 100,000kms mark, what extra stuff if any should I do on its next service. eg; do they have cambelts that need changing???

get a new radiator or have yours rodded out....

an old water pump can do that to ya, if the impeller is corroded or boken off some your coolant will not circulate @ its full potentia; posssibly being suficent for low loads but not high loads. one way to test for this is to put a thermo in your radiator. If your pump is not circulating well the temp will not rise very much in the radiator. THis could be why it is able to cool back down so quicly. I'd think if it was anything else the radiator would get really hot too and it would hold that high temp for @ least 10-15 min.

Yes, it seems that you have checked virtually everything else. Is there good flow through the radiator? You may also want to consider a coolant system flush; you could have scale/corrosion in the coolant passages...

General thoughts...

I presume you are running a fan shroud? Lack of a shroud can cause short circuiting of the air reducing cooling efficiency.

How did you check the fan?

Could trapped air in the coolant system be causing reduced flow or the air itself playing a trick on the temp sender?

Is the engine modified at all? Any CEL/MIL codes? If the engine was running too lean, or the timing is way off, this could cuase it to overheat. When you have eliminated everything else, something to check I guess.
