Jillebean
My '95 Pathy has been making some awful noises lately that I'm pretty sure are due to the throwout bearing. Is it easier to drop the tranny or do I need to pull the engine to fix it?
87pathy
is it making a wineing sound when the clutch is depressed? if so, mine started doing this several years ago and i still havn't changed it
Mr. Pickles
Mine did the noise routine for a year until I had the clutch replaced a few weeks ago. Sure enough the throwout bearing was shot.
88pathoffroad
You just need to take out the transmission/t-case(if it's 4WD) to change out the clutch and throwout bearing.
MatterHorn
mine was making that noise too ... so I replaced the throwout bearing ... noise was still there ... turns out it was the pressure plate ...
Jillebean
I guess i should restate what i am asking. I know my throw-out bearing is bad because of the whining it makes when i press in the clutch. I need to know if it is easier to yank the motor or drop the tranny to change it. I found a new clutch, throw-out bearing, and pressure plate for $180 local. Unfortunately it is a 2wd. My boyfriend said he would help me change it, but i figured someone here might have some insight for me to make this easier on me. Thanks in advance. 88pathoffroad
The 2WD is easier to work on than the 4WD. Like I already said, just drop the transmission, change it out and put it back together. No need to remove the engine. I dunno who told you that was even an option...
