95 Pathfinder wipers will not stop

I just bought a 95 Pathfinder XE 4X4. It rained the other day and the wipers would not work. After checking fuse under the Dash (good). I put a little rap on the light brown box mounted on the wiper motor and they began an inter mitten wipe but would not shut off at wiper switch. So I up-plugged the connector right at the wiper motor. It was full of corrosion. Clean it out and plugged it back up. Still the wipers would not shut off or respond to a different speed setting at the wiper switch. I went to a local Nissan dealer parts department and he was unable to find wiper relay, wiper control unit (without part numbers), other fuse and relay locations or show an exploded view, give a location of parts on the car, in another words very un-helpful to say the least.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. - The previous owner said the door locks stop working after he installed a stereo. I wonder if he may have messed up the ground?

It is possible - I trouble shot a stereo in a Pulsar once... the stereo died whenever the head lights were turned on but worked fine other wise - the installer (my roommate and eletrical engineer no less!) hooked up the deck ground to the dash light circuit (it tested like ground with the lights off). If you suspect a messed up deck install, do yourself a favour and correct that or at least disconnect/isolate it or you will go in circles second guessing the problem while trouble shooting.

For trouble shooting something like this, the first thing I do is make sure everything is dry, all connectors are clean and the grounds are verified clean and good... lot of electrical gremlins are due to bad grounds or intermittent grounds/contacts.

If it won't shut-off, my first instinct is the switch is fried. I am not familiar with your year pathy, so hopefully someone else will chime in with some more info.... g/l

It is called a wiper amplifier. Part number is: 28510-09G02. The Nissan parts diagram is not very helpful but I can send you one if you want.

Yeah, Thanks for the input, I plan to isolate and test the circuit, disconnect the stereo, check other connectors, etc...

The cruise control lights up some times and not other times, so I am just at the beginning of seek and search.

Tested the driver door power lock switch, no power to switch. Will get sometime this week to work on it and post later.

Thanks for you input Rob. I found a free down loadable 95 service manual that has the diagram you speak of. Your right not a lot of help.

Is the wiper amplifier, the box that I described as being mounted on the wiper motor, or is it located else where?

Makes a lot sense that there would be a wiper amplifier and its not responding to the wiper switch.

Will look for one Monday.

Besides Dealerships and pick a part, are there any other resonably priced places to also look for it?

Thanks again Guys.
