i would like to know how a caliper 'blows' - maybe the rubber boot. you can pop the piston out and put a new boot in if your handy.

 

when you say 4wd mechanism i assume your reffering to the locking hub. if so, yes you need to take it off. besides its easier to take the disk off the flange on the bench with a big heavy hammer

calipers can get "stuck" or can get leaks so thats probably what he meant...uhh search wheelmanLS1...I think he had a topic on it but I ended up just going to his house and helping him out with it...the job is not too bad if you mechanically inclined...changing the caliper will literally take maybe 30 mins if you include bleeding time...the rotors can take probably 2+hrs for a 1st go at it...

 

you will need to remove the spindle bolts that attach to the rotor...prior to pulling the spindle lock nut and need to pull the caliper and its bracketry as well as the locking hubs...
