10mm socket for the skid plate and + battery terminal, 14mm socket and a couple of extensions for the 2 bolts holding the starter in place. Once its loose, remove the connection to the Oil Sending Unit... turn the starter so the solenoid is in the 12 o'clock position and slide it forward over the Center Link... takes me about 15 min and that includes washing my hands after words....

It's not difficult, just not fun. Very limited work space and dirty. If you can cover your starter before you change your oil filter you will get a longer life out of it. Both of my starters have died within a week of an oil change. Coincident? I think not. :angry:

Was under the truck today and it looked very difficult to remove.Your reply makes it sound easy to do.thanks for the Tip!!

I never said it was easy.... can be quite difficult, I think im up to removing and replacing 9 starters so far, not all of them mine...

 

2 on the 88

2 on the 95

3 on the 91, engine replaced as well

1 on the 92
