SnakeS
I have a 1998 Pathfinder LE and i want to disable the chirp when you lock or unlock the doors. I have tried holding the lock and unlock buttons all it does is the lights go on the the horn is steady, then it still does it. I've researched on the internet there is no switches in the remote that i could flick i read somewhere about a #5 but no luck also tried key on, off, on,off, on to access a menu but no luck. I contemplating just disconnecting the horn but then if the alarm is activates it wouldn't be much good. Please help it is really embarrassing and the neighbors are getting irritated with me playing with the alarm in my driveway. It also had a factory installed remote start which means there are 4 buttons on my remote don't know if thats why I'm having trouble disabling it Many thanks, Edited November 6, 2007 by SnakeS
Pezzy
ahhh... that might be the issue... as you mentioned if you have the stock remote (original) the instructions are on the back, which simply tell you to press & hold the two buttons... Is there a brand name on the remote fob?? Was the remote starter put in before you had it? I would suggest asking whoever installed it (dealer?) or looking up the brand if it's not Nissan. SnakeS
i'm pretty sure its a factory install and the fob i have is itendical to the others just with another button. I know i havn't heard of anyone else with a factory starter and can't find a replacement fob on the internet.
SnakeS
ok went under the hood and tried to disconnect what the repair manual calls the alarm horn, no luck so i assume its using the two main horns. I think i found the controller unit. I looks to be factory because it uses a factory harness connectors etc. so i dunno what to do i'd like to keep my regular horns. 88pathoffroad
Download an owner's manual for it and see if the info is in there? I think you can find one free at Nissan USA's website.
SnakeS
yup it's pretty brief about the system just the lock will lock the doors and set the alarm. I've also looking in the service manuals but all it says is just diagnostics if stuff isn't working and wiring diagrams.
SnakeS
***UPDATE*** Ok so heres what i did i have disconnected my high note of my horn and its much better, i still have my regular horn and the chirp is only a low tone which i can live with. But the real answer still eludes me. In any case thanks for all your help and input!
Destro
Those pictures of the remote don't really look stock, the underside of it (the second pic) looks very strange.
