Eyeball! Nice! Very professional. How did it turn out? I watched a friend's dad do his back in high school. Dude pulled out a pretty decent protractor-type deal and went to work. At the local self-car wash. At about 11pm. On a '78 or so Plymouth Volare. It was the only really flat, lit place at that hour. I'll be darned if he didn't get it just about right. Many many miles with only slight uneven wear. Actually, this leads me in a round-about way to my next post... ball joint spacers & new UCA's.

Turns out that I don't have any sort of alignment tools and toe-in was all I could adjust with any degree of accuracy. It steers REALLY funny. Needs a pro job. Ah well. I also need to rebuild the steering gearbox.

Aarons correct bearings & seals, general clean up and inspect parts

what i will say is that part 49381 will have to be re-hard chromed, otherwise your new seals will just get ripped up

Bah, that looks easy to disassemble. I bet I could get away with just a real light sanding and some polishing, couldn't I? :D There's a chrome shop here locally, but I bet it'd take them a week to get my ONE part done. Mleh. :P

On my newly acquired '92 (I got the fenders and hood on my '88 just need to paint them...wish I had a digital camera that worked so I could post pics) the thing steers like a tank. It has cheap tires and I was thinking maybe this is why it steers hard. I had the steering looked at and they aligned it and said "nope, everything is in good condition" but with our other 2 'finders you can steer with a single finger in the wheel. This one you need at least one arm and a lot of effort. Power steering fluid is alright, power steering pump is new, I looked at the other parts (and so did the mechanic) and he said he figured it was the cheapo tires gripping too much. Anybody have any ideas? I kind of feel it's the tires as well because there is no shimmy or anything down the highway...eh, maybe I'm just too picky.
