Lighting Issue

Well, a few days ago my taillights and console lights went out. We checked the fuse, and it had blown. Put a new fuse in, and that one blew too. I'm guessing I have a short somewhere, but I don't know where.

My question is, where should I look in order to fix this?

Your Headlight switch is the culprit. I had the same issue. some folks have had luck taking them apart, and cleaning the contacts, and bending them back into place.....however, I just replaced mine with a junkyard unit.

Oh, and welcome! Be sure to introduce yourself, and let us know about your truck in the welcome section. :aok:

Well, I took the switch apart. The contacts looked clean, but I did remove a little buildup. After re-installing the unit, I tried it out after putting in yet another fuse. The fuse blew yet again.

What else could be wrong?

OH...my mistake. I didn't read completely, aparently, as I didn't realize you were blowing fuses.

In that case, I'd unplug the harnesses to your taillights, and then put in a new fuse, and try again. If the console lights come on, and the fuse does not blow, you know it's something in the taillight wiring. Then you can try plugging in one side, then the other, to see which side it is.

hi!

i have the same problem...now and then.

headlights always work well, but if i use the dimmer for the instrument lights, they cut out and with them the taillights are lost...i couldn´t find a reason now...the fuse sometimes is blown, sometimes not................

It could be the dimmer switch, as unplugging the taillight harnesses does nothing to fix the problem.

I might as well fix the front speakers while i'm at it...
