I'm looking for some good media that would be a good crash course on setting up CNC machines...i did this 3 or 4 times under supervision about a year and a half ago...but have all but damn near forgot everything...i've got an interview on friday out there in cali and it seems that he's going to inspect my engineering design and/or CNC capabilities (i told him i only used them a couple times) but i dont want to walk in there and look like a complete jackass...

 

i have most of the basic m codes and g codes and how to write those out manually (used mastercam a couple times but cant remember how that works) but i forgot how to set up the start point and what not...i do know im not touching those things without knowing 100% what im doing cuze i def cant afford to crash 1...

 

if some1 has a crash course link that would help out so I can at least polish up to a dull shine...i honestly hope he lets me do design and machining but from what he sounded like he wants me to set up and run the machine shop...but i guess i'll find out more on friday...

Sorry Bud, I just saw this. No, I don't know of any crash course that will quickly teach you what it usually takes years of experience to learn.

BUT, I know of a good place to ask for help and I'm always available for specifics also. Feel free to PM me and if needed, we can chat or phone...

 

Check this site out, someone there may know of a 2 hour journeyman video. I'm a member but can't even remember my login; they don't have a diamond turning section...

notta problem at all...well the interview went great and I misunderstood him...if he will ever get back with me on an offer, i will know if im coming out there or not...but my 1st project would be establishing a mill and lathe CNC machine that would make most of the prototypes in house, learn how to operate it and build an instruction manual...and then from there on establish a bigger shop while working on other pojects...i dont know much more about it other than i would have a fixed budget and wide open range...a guy i work with has a friend that takes conventional lathe's and mills, purchases a retrofit kit and resells so that will be probably be an approach I look at if I get the job.

 

but i might def take u up on the offer if i make my way out there...thanks btw for the link i'll check it out

Um, can I have that job?? Seriously, sounds good to me...

 

Best take a look at what type of work/what tolerances need to be done and then over spec the machine resolution, capacity and versitility or you may wind up with a machine that can only handle the basic work. I've seen this happen before...

thanks...got an email back from him this afternoon and he and the other co-owner are "evaluating" to give me an offer so hopefully that comes before friday...I'm pretty excited about this because the opportunity to grow is going to be insane esp if i do a good job which i believe will not be an issue...

 

i'm going to start searching the web and reading some books at to get a jump on it b/c after this project I will be into the aircraft parts which will be a huge learning curve in itself but im up for the challenge and it would be a nice change of pace
