New tires and rubbing

I just put some 265 70 517 tires on my 98 and i am getting rub when I turn only on the front left tire. It rubs on the plastic lining on the front of the wheel well. should I do anything like grind it/ heat it and push it in cut it??/ also I think it is strange that it would rub only on the left side of the car, whereas the right side of the tire seems to be almost a half inch further from the front of the wheel well. any ideas on any of this would be appreciated.

The plastic linings are slightly different because they cover different things. Just trim where it rubs and leave it at that.

the other question is that the tire comes right up to the metal cover on the main spring, it isn't touching and I don't see how it would rub unless I was really flexing the tire. Does anyone see a problem with this?

You mean the bottom of the spring, where it mounts to the lower part of the strut? If it's close to, but not rubbing there, you will never rub on that part. Nothing to worry about. Close is okay in that respect.

Exactly. That part NEVER moves with respect to the tire - it's the spring above that part which does all the moving.

 

 

Mine is about a centimeter away from the part of the shock you are talking about.
