jgt
ok folks, finally done. 5 full days and each day posed lots of challenges. The top dogs: 1) getting the engine out...didn't know the 3rd member had to be dropped for it to come out. Funky 4wd oil pan 2) Getting the engine and transmission to mate together. 3 hours of work to move like 1 inch. 3) Getting the 3rd member back into place. Taking out the two front brackets gave us a little more wiggle room, that heavy Mofo was tough. 4) Me newbie dropped a screw (don't ask how) into the engine when I replaced the valve cover gaskets. Caused the engine to seize and ripped up the belt. One tow truck later and 3 more hours in the garage.....We are up and running great!! -bounce- Thanks for the tips guys, everything you've said so far have been right on. Now for the body/paint! oh, and I've added some pix. http://www.worldisround.com/articles/321738/ -jules Edited December 30, 2006 by jgt
Cuong Nguyen
So the valves left unscathed after you removed the bolt you dropped in?
unccpathfinder
2) Getting the engine and transmission to mate together. 3 hours of work to move like 1 inch. yes this is a pain without a tranny jack...after my clutch job this past week im down to using 2 floor jacks and an engine hoist thru the floor... glad to hear you didnt kill the engine with the dropped bolt...1 small metal bit killed mine on a sparkplug change when it fell into the cylinder and instead of blowing out of the exhaust it welded to the head... but congrats and bet your glad thats over....
