I read in a post by 88 that the cause of this is sometimes dirty contacts in the highbeam/blinker lever.

The problem I'm having is that I will turn my highbeams on, and just the drivers side will go on. I thought it was bulbs so I bought new ones, but it didn't fix it.

What I'm wondering is how hard it is to take the lever apart and clean the contacts. Do you need to take the cover off the steering column?

My Pathy isn't here right now so I can't look at it, but it's really angering me so I want to get it fixed.

Wow we have a had a lot of posts about the same basic problem lately... all the symptoms are related. Its the multi switch as you mentioned.

 

It is not hard to remove, yes you must remove the column cover off, then it is just two screws and one connector (two if you have cruise control) You can take the switch apart and clean/tweak the contacts....

 

But as I have mentioned in other posts it is a temporary fix. I was able to extend the life of my switch for almost a year before tweaking just did not work anymore. In the end you will be buying a new multi-switch.

 

When or before you do that rewire *at least* your headlights with relay's. Search the site for into on that. it will extend the life of the new switch greatly.

I'm almost like you, when I switch off the high beams one light has a delayed reaction before lighting up. This is my second switch from the JY.

They all have the same problem... main power to all lights runs through them. Over time it really wrecks havoc on them. the only real fix for this is to buy a new one and the only wat to prevent it from happening again is to rewire your lighting system (headlights being the most important part of it)

 

Problem with wrecking yard switches is (unless they are newer than the truck they came from) is that most of them will be real close to the same problems you are having right now.

 

iirc I paid around $80 for mine from a dealer (olympia) after calling local dealer for the best price.

 

But since then I have found they are now availible in the aftermarket.. check rockauto.com
