Guest tram_bethea
Hey guys I bought a new red top optimata battery today and was wondering if it ever ran down, what would be a good way to recharge it?
88pathoffroad
I'd suggest using a battery charger.

somethingcool
Some people say the optimas don't like it if you charge them from dead at full charging power, to use the trickle charge instead... but I have no personal experience with em.
88pathoffroad
Mine went completely dead at Sand Lake(twice), then I put it on a 40 amp charger for two hours and it works just fine.
94extreme
do you guys recommend Optimas? i sure would like to have a dry cell. how are they with winches?
NissanPerson
I'm sure they'd be fine with winches, although I personally don't know. But they are great, no acid, last forever, (compared to regular batteries) from my experience you can discharge them completely and charge them back up and they work as good as new (at least as far as I am concerned). So yeah, they cost more but you'll get more life out of them and you'll like it better I'm sure. Enough rambling from me. GET ONE!
MatterHorn
they will work great for winches ... just do NOT use the side post terminals to hook the winch or any other continuous high drain electrical component ... you can damage the side post hookups ... 88pathoffroad
Yeah, they weld themselves together or melt a bit, hehehe.
