Speedometer light on/off !?

Although I posted this question in The Garage, looks like this is more appropriate subforum:

I have 2001 Pathfinder and (quite new to it) recently the backlight behind the speedometer/fuel gauge has started to loose contact.

How do I access the bulb/light? From the hood or?...

Users in The Garage subforum suggested taking cluster out. What is cluster? (English is not my first language :) How? Is there an ilustrated guide somewhere?

Thanks,

Nick

The bulbs are accessed from behind the speedometer/fuel gauge. (The dashboard gauges are also called the "instrument cluster".) To remove the gauges, you have to partially disassemble the plastic cover on the steering column, and remove the plastic trim around the gauges.

After that, you can access the screws holding the instrument panel to the dashboard and pull it out.

It's probably easier said than done, though. I personally have never removed the instrument cluster.

Be careful when removing the screws holding the cluster in because its really easy to drop them down into these convenient holes Nissan put in.

After removing the cluster, flip her around, and you'll see the bulbs held in by twisty holders. There are four bulbs for illumination. As you said, the bulb you want is between the speedometer and fuel gauge. For reference, another bulb is between the tachometer/temp gauge, and the other two are a little below the turn signals indicators.
