lee_cha_nin
Hi, what are do's/dont's if the engine is stalled while driving (automatic transmission)? I would: 1. Switch the selector to N 2. restart the engine if it fails then: 1. Depending on a traffic and conditions a) depress the brake pedal and when it loses pressure in cylinders start using manual brake or ...(fill in, please) Nick
88pathoffroad
Pull over first using the brakes as you normally would. Shift to neutral and try to restart. The brakes will still be useable, but the pedal pressure required goes up a bit.
lee_cha_nin
OK, I was not sure if the brakes would function at all. So it is just "power" part that goes off in such a case Edited August 7, 2006 by lee_cha_nin
Precise1
Yes, they will still function somewhat but you have to press hard and don't expect to be able to lock up the tires. If you need extra help, use the parking brake also. The engine shouldn't die while it's driving, so I recommend coasting to the side of the road as quickly as is safe, stopping and then try to restart or determine what the problem is... Dave_C
If it does stall while driving, don't do a panic mode and turn the key off and try to turn it back on again while trying to come to a stop...you risk your steering wheel locking, then you could be potentially "screwed".
