  1. Do you guys also follow time interval?

I mean do you change every three or six month no matter what mileage do you have?

For instance it takes 6 months for me to drive 3750 miles.

In three months I drove about 2000 miles and according to manual I should have changed the oil and filter.

  2. I use Amsoil synthetic with an Amsoil EA oil filter designed for extended drain intervals. I change my oil once per year or after 15,000 miles.

Do you add oil between changes and if yes what amount?

Also what are your driving conditions? (Mostly on highway, Mostly in city, mixed mode)

  3. In my country there is no local nissan dealer so I use Fully synthetic 5w-30 to be sure that engine gets good treatment.

Today I've found motor oil in one of the stores.

After googling I found out that those oils can be purchased from (probably were imported from)

    http://jaytec-lubricants.com/

As they state they sell genuine lubricants for japan cars including nissan.

According to manual my VQ35DE should get this oil. It has API burst symbol on it and also API service SM grade.

    It's mineral though.

What do you think about that oil?

  4. My results on the 02 are similar.

In just over 5K (short city trips also 5 miles or less) I burned just under 3/4 quart. If you take a long trip check that out too. I took an 800 mile trip and checked to see virtually no consumption. After making the trip home (another 800) still not any easy measureable amount of oil burned. I averaged about 70 MPH and the trip took 16 hrs of travel round trip.

I would say that constant trip speeds vs. stop and go, greatly affect this particular engine in this rig.

I agree with you completely that longer trips result in no or little oil consumption.

I've once made a trip about 400 miles (one day) and the oil was at the same level after that, another 400 miles (one month) in a town and I noticed it was down again.

I guess I don't have to worry about it. :)

  5. No but genrally on mine(which has a 3.5 quirt pan) I would start worrying if it is half a quirt low in 3000 miles.

A 5 quirt pan I wouldnt worry until a full quirt was being used in 3000 miles.

I'm using fully synthetic long-life oil, so I change every 6000 miles or 1 year.

Last time observation was that after 4000 miles it was on L mark of the dipstick.

I know that there is 1 quart range from L to H, so my oil consumption was 1 quart per 4000 miles, Is that normal?

Also you should take into consideration the fact that I'm driving in a dusty city, with lots of uphills and downhills, stoplights and mostly doing 5 mile trips

    a day.

  6. Hello

I could not find that info.

I know that many manufacturers provide info how much oil should car consume on some mileage.

For instance my friend's mercedes states that consuming half a liter on 10,000 km ~ 6,000 miles is normal

and after that level engine needs repair.

Does anyone know what is that info for pathfinder?

  7. Hello

I live outside USA and order parts through online stores.

I ship to Mendota Heights, MN 55120 and they then ship to my country.

    I mainly used two sites

www.mynismo.com and on that site there is a link to http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214252

Both stores are located in California and it takes a week to ship my goods to MN.

I found www.parts.com but they do not accept international Visa cards.

Does anyone know any store near MN that I can use to reduce the shipping wait time?

  8. Can you clarify "beating sound" ? Any more info would be appreciated.

It's like manual transmission sound when you change a gear and it does not go smooth, but only one beat.

Also it's like the sound when you shift 4wd lever from 4h to 4l.

Unfortunately I don't know how automatic transmission sounds when it's damaged or low on oil and you change gears but I suspect it's the same sound.

Anyway it does not bother me too much. In every other situation car upshifts and downshifts smoothly.

Maybe it's the normal behaviour for such an old-fashioned transmission. I susupect that it happens when the car is going to downshift from 3rd to 2nd and at that point I'm accelerating but only on downhill.

  9. Hello

I've got 2003 SE 4x4 with Auto transmission.

I've noticed that only when I'm driving downhill and accelerating at certain speed transmission downshifts and some beating sound is heard.

I don't know if it's connected but When I cranking the car at the morning some beating sound is also heard once. But that does not happen all the time.

Could it because one of my 2 drive belts are not adjusted correctly?

  10. My pathfinder came without it so I paid about 60$ to some guy who did all the measurement and skid plate.

Here is the result. Now I feel more safe on the road and will be safe in winter in the snow.

I was scared when I saw that radiator hoses and even oil filter is "visible" without skid plate.

I don't want to imagine a case when some stone will hit oil filter when I'm doing 80mph and the car will bleed oil and my engine will be goner.

The tricky part was to make exact cutouts for radiator support rubbers. The guy did not do it correctly so my dad had to widen them so skid plate does not touch any rubber.

    Here are the pictures.

  11. Hello

I've purchased brake pad set of 4, part number 41060-5W585.

They came and I noticed that one of the pads has some metal on it.

I guess it's wear indicator but in any case why only one of the pads has it?

  12. Hello

    Nissan manual states:

NISSAN does not recommend synthetic type oils but recommends mineral based oils. These oils must however, meet the API quality and SAE viscosity ratings specified for your vehicle.

I use SAE 5w-30 oil. How should I check if it's mineral based or synthetic based?

  13. I think what he is referring to is the "cut-off line" that the 2000-2004's have that make them look very much like a "European" style headlight. There is a very distinctive line that cuts across, then cuts up on the right (to illuminate the ditch side) on the low beams; there is very little light above this cut line but lots below it.

That's close to truth I guess.

  14. Hello

I've imported my pathy from USA to my country.

Several people told me that my headlights are european-style. As I was told american cars have different beam type than europe ones.

    How is that possible?
