  1. Ok, so this is a stupid question, but here i go. How bad is it to crank your car while its already running? I happened to crank my '01 Pathfinder today while it was already running and i heard a buzzing type noise. Is there some kind of safety mechanism that prevents the starter from trying to engage the flywheel or??? I am not too concerned about this since its the first time ive ever done it, i just wondered what exactly happens... All input would be great Thanks, Phantom
  2. Ok, so i have searched many other posts on the situation(s) that i have. I have found them helpful but still need other opinions. I have an 01 LE w/ 83k on it. First ill start off with the slight vibration in the steering wheel at 55 to 65mph. Im not sure when the wheels/tires were balanced last (rotated 3500k ago)... The vibration will only last for a couple seconds then go away. It will eventually come back again then go away... Any thoughts? Next, say im going 60mph and i have to stop quickly, if i step very firmly on the brakes, it feels like the whole truck shakes. i would say most of the shaking is coming from the front. It just doesnt happen at 60mph...if i am going slower and i press harder on the brakes and it will still happen...just not as much... im thinking i have warped rotors...but the brakes were just replaced about 4k ago and the bearings were repacked... Insight from everybody would be great! Thanks, J
  3. yah as of right now ill just paint the tip, since its exposed to most weather conditions...if i like it...ill do the rest... thanks for your advice
  4. So i had this wild idea to paint my new exhaust all black. A friend of mine had all black exhaust on his truck and i thought it looked really awsome. I just got a magnaflow installed on my pathy a couple hundred miles ago. Its all stainless steel and it has a polished stainless steel tip. I liked the chrome at first, but now i like the all black look. What would be the best paint to use? Duplicolor or VHT? Any suggestions on sanding or cleaning it before painting? I'd like to hear everybodys opinion...
  5. Hey thanks for all your advice. I am going to make sure and do this as soon as i am home for spring break in the beginning of March. Yah a while away...so i have time to figure all this out. the only other thing i have to do is buy a new mount for my antenna. any suggestions? do you think a magnetic mount would be better then mounting to my roof rack?? Would the magnetic mount cause any problems to the roof? such as paint rusting or scratching? i know that seems like a dumb question, but on my last truck, it rusted a ring where the mount was...
  6. how exactly would i go about tapping into the 12V cig outlet wire? last time i had my cb wired up in my other truck, i had it tapped into the radio...and i had a friend help me. i forgot what kind of connector thingy he used...and i wired it up with the radio because i was replacing the radio...so i figured while it was out, i might as well hook up to it. but i dont want to take the radio out and i dont wanna rip apart the counsel to much in my pfinder, so what im getting to is, the least amount of work possible with hidden wires, haha thanks
  7. That install looks great! i was thinking of doing the same thing...but my 4wd switch is located in that same area... thanks for the pics and idea!
  8. thanks everybody. i have a UNIDEN PC 68 XL. so its a decent size. i will probably try and find a mount for the roof rack and adapt my antenna that i took off my other truck. (wilson antenna) As of where to install the radio...im still thinking about it. im at college right now, and dont have my cb with me, so ill put it in the next time i go home. (living 4 hrs away from home means i dont go home that often). ill probably not wire it directly to my battery, maybe just plug it into the cig. outlet, because all power shuts off when the key is turned off. ill do more research on where to install and see how others have done it...and go from there... thanks again to everybody.
  9. I was thinking of installing my CB radio and Wilson antenna on my '01 LE. I just wanted to get everybodys opinion on how to do it and do it so it looks good. i dont wanna drill holes to install the antenna on the outside of the truck. Maybe clamp it to the roof rack? and then the trick is getting the wire from the antenna into the cab...maybe through the rear hatch? and finally placing the cb radio inside, in the right and best looking place... much to think about...thought from everybody would be great! thanks
  10. ok so i had the MAF replaced after the dealership said that was the problem...i was in to get my power valve screws checked, so i said why not just replace it since its the problem...so that was great no SES light. But today the SES light came back on, so i got it scanned and it said O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 circuit high voltage(code P0138). im getting pissed that the light is always on, especially since the dealership said a new MAF sensor would fix the problem. does anybody know what the hell i should do?????
  11. So i just got back from the Dealership, and so far so good. i went in at 1030 this morning and the mechanic started to tear it down. He told me that the screws were not to the point of falling out, but they came out easier then they should have...so $200 later and some lock-tite, im good to go. oh also had the MAF replaced, got a deal worked out with the mechanic, so no more SES light. NOTE: ANYBODY WITH AN '01 TO '04 PATHFINDER, GET THIS PROBLEM CHECKED OUT!! YOUR BUTTERFLY SCREWS MAY NOT BE TO THE POINT OF FALLING OUT, BUT THEY COULD BE VERY LOOSE!!!!! it'll be worth an extra couple hundred dollars to keep you pfinder running!!!!
  12. I recently just bought a 2001 LE Pathfinder with 80k. I called the dealer today after reading all these forums on the power valve screws coming loose and getting sucked into the intake. The service manager said there hasnt been any recall about this problem on Pathfinders, but he did say hes seen it happen on some altima's and sentra's. well i told him about all the websites ive gone to and read all this stuff about people having motor failure do to screws coming loose. i asked him how much it would cost to check the screw problem and loctite all of them, and he said $200. that seems like a small price to pay to have a peace of mind, plus a mechanic with 30yrs experience will be working on it. i am so veery pleased that i have found all these forums to assist me with problems. hopefully everything will go well. thanks
  13. so today i called the local nissan dealership and asked them about my SES light always being on. they said that the PCM was programmed too sensative from the factory thats why the light goes on and off all the time (mostly on) haha. its not necessarly bad O2's or a MAF sensor. well since i bought it from a private party, the guy at the dealership just happened to know the guy i bought it from, said i can come in and give them my VIN # and they can tell me whether or not the PCM has been reprogrammed. so hopefully this will end my SES light forever! let just hope!!
  14. ok ill do that. so i tested my MAF sensor today and this is what i came up with. I did the backprobe test and connected the probe to the positive signal on the back of the MAF connector, and grounded to the motor. with the key turned on it should read just below 1.0 volt, which it was. then i started the engine. with the engine running it should be 1.0 to 1.8 volts at idle, mine was 1.2volts. i increased the RPM. the MAF signal voltage should increase from 1.6 to 3.0volts, but mine never made it above 2.0volts. does this mean my MAF is bad? i performed the test exactly how the Haynes Repair Manual said. if anybody could help, it would be great! thanks.
  15. ok i downloaded the manual but i cant seem to open the file. whats the difference between the 2001 and 2001.5 fsm?
  16. whats an FSM?? thanks for all you advice...ill look into the FSM and conduct the proper diagnostic procedure. the funny thing is my truck doesnt run rough or anything. the light came on on last tuesday for about 2hrs...parked it for a few hours then when i drove it it wasnt on. It didnt come on all wednesday, but thursday morning when i started her up and drove it for about 5 miles it came on. and i got it scanned both times the light came on and the same codes came up. i called the local autoparts store and asked how much for a MAF and they said $240, but he didnt have any in stock and couldnt get any at all...so i was...well...you know...haha. ill have too look into an 01 Maxima MAF as soon as i do the FSM procedure, if that is the problem.
  17. Has anybody else had the problem of the SES light coming on occationally on their '01's??? I got it scanned and the codes came back saying System too lean (bank 1) and system too lean (bank 2). so do i have to replace O2 sensors or a MAF sensor? Could there be a leak after the MAF? Please help! any advice would be great Thanks
  18. I recently bought a 2001 Pathfinder LE 4x4 with 80k on it. So far its been great and i love that i still have 4wd.
