  1. Cheers SW im in sydney at present but am soon to relocate to queensland. thanks for your input i will get to it and ditch the EGR. thanks again/
  2. Thanks mate, I just reread my post and I failed to ad that im in australia.....Nissan here didnt import the turbo diesels they are all what is called a grey import, so parts from Nissan Australia can be an issue. Wouls anyone in Australia know of an aftermarket brand model number that could do the job. cheers
  3. Hi does anyone know what type of air filter fits the 2.7 turbo diesel terrano ....... had acall around in brisbane and there were some interesting replys from the likes of repco, supacheap.... does anyone know what type it is cheers (part number )
  4. thanks for the reply, i would love to know what the part with the diesel kiki sticker on it does? The car is an early terrano 1991 model., its an auto. As far as i am aware it doesn't blow much smoke at all,and if it does its black. That ecu was found on the passenger side (drivers side for left hand drive cars) inside the plastic side panel in the rear cargo area. Didnt know about the filter on the pump will try to get in there and have a look.Tyres are standard size, and its done 160000 k's. thanks for any help
  5. got a terrano thats a little thirsty on diesel(16litres per 100 kilometres) ,amongst other things its a bit of a problem child. I have found what appears to be an ecu in the back of the car that has Diesel kiki on it! thats the brand of injector pump fitted. Does anyone know what this ecu does? and if so is there a way of testing it to see if all is well. cheers
  6. i believe there is a computer(ecu) that controls the auto transmission, what exactly does it do? im trying to suss out a problem with a gearbox thats doesnt want to shift into OD and i was wondering if the transmission ECU could be an avenue worth exploring.
  7. thanks for that mate i have sent you a privae message with my email address let me know if it didnt get thru. as for the weather its winter here at the moment but its between 18-22 degress centigrade during the day, have no idea what that is in farenhieght. i imagine the weather is like florida in winter. too cold for us to swim in the ocean but you do see a lot of carzy tourists in the surf.
  8. good point there denis , it would be easier if we could have an expert here , i'll send my private jet immediately, start packing your bags.. so would you agree that the self diagnosis flashes i saw give an all ok signal?
  9. ok here goes just did a test drive after i disconected the battery for over an hour to try and reset the ecu. no change i got onto the motorway and got up to110k's (65mph) and it didnt go into OD. tried to switch the OD button on off and on at that speed and nothing happened. i then got home and went thru the self diagnosis proceedure that i believe 88 posted. i got 1 long flash followed by 10 short, it repeated this series 1 long 10 short. at first i got exited and thought i had a fault readingfor ''REVOLUTION SENSOR CIRCUIT IS SHORT CIRCUITED or DISCONECTED. that was short lived as i re-read the directions and it looks like what i was seeing was a confirmation that all circuits are ok! thats if im interpreting the self diagnostic directions correctly. just looked at another post regards sel diagnostics , it read the OD light flickered ? i was assuming it was the light on the switch that has HOLD A/T POWER on it ......... is that the correct one to be looking at. on the sheet i copied it readsPOWER SHIFT LAMP i assumed that to be the HOLD A/T POWER switch.... if im starting to frustrate any one with my lack of knowledge please be patient im not really a pumpkin head. bugger bugger bugger.............................this is all getting very frustrating. any more advice would be as usual gratefully recieved.
  10. the car has 160,000 kilometres (100,000 miles) and as far as im aware they changed all the oils less than 600 miles ago. how do you reset the tranny ecu? it all changes ok around town it just seems to be a problem firstly getting intoOD then staying there. thanx for all your assistance guys, im sure i sound like a dope but as i said i know nothing about autos. have rebuilt diesel engines so im not in capable of working on the thing just have no idea where to start.
  11. at 50-55 i believe rpms were around 3250 -3500.....as for the OD drop to 3rd 1000 rpms is about right now that you mention it. bloody thing at the moment just seems reluctant to change into OD
  12. when the OD comes in it drops the by 500 rpm. its at 60 mph that it dropped back and stayed there. it also seems not to want to go into OD sometimes, tonight i was driving at 50-55mph and it was still in 3rd, surely it should have slipped up into OD(4th) by then. the trouble with me is that i have zero experience with autos so when i read some of the info on this site i have no idea what most are talking about. im in australia and i would think that manuals outnumber autos here. we like to drive the car not just steer it
  13. hi it doesnt shift hard , and i was not driving aggressively and i believe it was given an oil change less than 1000k's before. the car is one that has just been bought. also what speed does the average trans shift into OD. i have spoken to a fellow that says that the box's shift up and done in direct relationship to the speed and if the speed.
  14. yes its a 1991 model and as far as i can remember the accelerator was not being pushed down when it dropped back. i did notice that i seemed tp be reluctant to go into OD ..im usually a manual transmission driver so i have no knowledge of autos and there odd ways. im in australia and less han half the cars on the road would be autos. i must admit i feel abit out of the loop when i drive it.
  15. hi with a 3 speed auto with an O/D on what would cause the box to drop down a gear at say 100k's (60mph) could it be an electrical / switch related problem. any common faults with these symptoms.?
  16. thanks all for input .... transmission ground wire , where is that , unfortunately manuals for these things are hard to find. thanx
  17. higot what is probably a dumb question but as i have just aquired a 1990 2.7td terrano auto that didnt have an owners manual inside it, i have to ask some questions.... 1/ what is the switch that is marked HOLD A/T POWER for . this is the first automatic i have owned and so im a tad confused. 2/ the car has an intermittant problem with gear changes it seems slow to go into top gear (od)on the highway, i have found that sometimes it just sits in 3rd and revs hard at 100k's. 3/ when it is in top gear and cruising nicely it sometimes for no reason drops back a gear and stays there........ any help with this one would be really appreciated. rest of the car is fine just seems like i have scored a gearbox with issues......... 4/are these A/T's on these cars usually a pain ..... i must admit that all i do at the moment is listen for gear changes. 5/ why would you bother not having the O/D on , is it a bad thing to do around town. 6/ on the gear lever at the bottom on the front there is a button of some sort ....whats it do? 7/ does anyone know hwrer i can get an owners manual that would explain all this stuff its a terrano would someone have a scanned manual that i could get a copy of....... like i said this is the first auto i have owned and ive driven very few so im not really sure what is normal. any opinions will be gratefully recieved. just reread this post ...i sound like a right pumpkin head
  18. @!*% thats an offer i will have to consider ....... hell of a lot of stamps to post it to you though, i may dehydrate licking them all.
  19. hi i am thinking about buying a 1991 terrano 2.7 turbo diesel and am wanting to know is are they the same car as the pathfinder of the same vintage. ie running gear and other mechanicals. im in australia and the terrano was imported and not supported by nissan australia in regards parts but they look like a pathfinder and they seeem to be similar in running gear to a navarra. any advice would be gratefully recieved.
