  1. i used to be into cars and the guy had a sick 240 ut would always tell me anything can be done with enough money...

Unfortunetly I don't have any money thats why I do the work myself. The suspension lift I installed myself, new bushings I popped out the old ones & pressed in the new ones myself, when my engine sh!t-the-bed last October, you guessed, it I rebuilt & swapped in another motor in a neighbors garage (I don't have one). The money I have goes towards parts everything else is ussually up to me, unlees it's something like bumpers (which I shop around until I can gett it cheap). Ya gotta keep your hustle on.

As far as the D22 snorkel goes I don't have $350-380 to spend on one so I'll probably make one, unless I find one cheap used again.

And the starter relocation, looks like it should not be too big of a deal. I know I'm gonna have a harder time relocating the alty. I promise when I do these things I post up how (don't hold your breath though because school starts back up in about 2 weeks & my work & classes/homework/schoolprojects take up all of my time). I'll probably attempt this over Christmas break.

  2. how would you relocat the alt?? it runs on the belts?

When I did the engine swap last Dec. I looked at a couple of options & a coiuple of places that I could move it to. It' would never be completely safe but better & higher up than it is now. To answer your questionj a bit better , I'd have to make some custom mounts to make it work. There aint nothing out there from a factory or anything.

  3. Snorkel, did you say ? I'll sell you my AC/Gibson snorkel for $250. PM me if interested. It'll ship with most if not all the parts. (May be a few screws missing. I have half a car worth of parts in the garage now.)

I think I'm just gonna build one.

  4. So what were you guys doing in Qatar (which let me say is the only name/word that I've seen without a U right behind the Q) if you're from Lebanon? Just working, playing in the desert, or what?

  5. Boston how did loosing the plastic lining contribute to you totaling the first engine? When I get my 33's maybe 34's I plan on just heating up the plastic with a torch and bending it back.....hopefully not catching my engine on fire whilst doing so :O
the factory airbox extends all the way into the driver's front fender. without the inner fender in place, the intake is more susceptible to pull in water.

    he flooded his first engine.

    ^^ What he said...

  6. Did these fit without modification? Is there a part number - the Bilstein online application docs aren't much help?

You'll be fine. The 99.5-2004 R50's have to do some modification if I'm not mistaken though.

Also, unless you go to a 15x8 rim I wouldn't push 32's, b/c they are all* (*at least to my knowledge) an 11.5" wide tire which would be too much for a 15x7 rim especially if you offroad & air down a bit. As stated on AC I run 15x8 black steelies (I couldn't tell you what brand as I traded my stock rims for them) with 3.75" of BS & 32x11.5x15 BFG MT's that have never let me down. Oh & the bolt pattern is 6x5.5 incase you didn't already know.

You can get plain black offroad rims farirly cheap, like $55 or so a rim, if I'm not mistaken. Theres a guy on pirate4x4 (HERES THE LINK TO THE THREAD) that runs killer deals on Interco's & rims for cheap (much cheaper, mounted & shipped than like Discount Tire or any other hack joint can offer), so PM him & check it out.

  7. That sux guys. We tend to have stupid f*ckin laws here in the states to. Luckily we, as human beings, were given the ability at birth to make decissions. Like the decission to not follow a bullsh!t law & to do whats best for you. My vehicle has not passed an inspection here in NC for 4 years but I'm still truckin. Oh & to any LEO's reading if you see me coming you can go a head & pull me over for that bogus seatbelt law thats in place to idiot proof the country & to take away my personal rights & freedoms, cause trust you me I aint wearin' one!

To my Aussies, after my little rant, I hope all goes well for you guys Downunder but remember, just because its a law doesn't make it just or right, sometimes you gotta do watch a gotta do.

  8. To get 33s and up in without tire rub, you need to trim the plastic front bumper, remove all the plastic splash guards inside the wheel well and get wheels with low (<3.75") backspacing. This is where most people stop. Very few wheels are available with backspacing in the 3-3.75" range and not everyone likes the available designs. Also, a lot of people DON'T like cutting plastic. This is purely a personal preference issue.

Certain 33's could be done with a bit a of trimming. I have no plastic inner lining (which is partly how I destroyed the original engine) & my front plastic bumper has been cut-the-hell-up for a couple of years now. I know it would fit most 33's, but I still run a 32x11.5 tire on a rim with 3.75" of BS b/c I like having the room for what little flex our R50's can do

  9. nice one dude u do know we got those in the us at least in the northeast pz

I live in the South (NC), so the only time I get Timmy Hoho is whenI get to go fishing in Canada. It's not so much TH coffee or anything like that as it is being part of the tradition of going with my father & godfather & everyone else to go fishing like he have for the last 16 or so years. Like I said before when I want coffee I usually just make a pot myself.

Yes thats me, Boston, drinking out of my Tim Hortons cup here in NC. Dad "accidentially" walked out with last week when he was up in Canada. He said since I wasn't able to go up for the 3rd year in a row he'd bring a small bit of Canada back to me (He kept the Labatte Blue for himself). I thought you might enjoy.

  11. Yeah. Am thinking about getting the engine with a tranny as well for the gearing match. Just wasnt sure if the tranny i get would fit the transfer case. If the tranny is just the same as what TEk is saying below though then i dont see any merits buying an engine with the same tranny if i can use the one on the QX4. Can you enlighten me on that?

The only real reason I would go with this is because I would have a new/newer engine & a new/newer tranny. That way you don't replace your engine & the turn around in 6 months or a year or even 2 & have to deal with rebuilding or replacing the tranny. I would just do it all at once & have a whole new setup that I know would last.

Also, why do i have to change the fuel lines and gas tank? Isn't emptying the tank and cleaning it as well as flushing the lines good enough?

I just would want to leave anything to chance (the chance that there is still some petrol in there that could f*ck up or give your new engine trouble). Instead of taking everything off & trying to clean it all out & hoping you got ti all out, just replace that sh!t. You already have it off. Going back what I said above

Do you think the TD27T (100HP & 215N*m) is a much better deal than the TD27ETi (130HP & 278 N*m) which has an ECU for the pump?

I would just preffer to not have to deal with any more emmissions BS. Plus I like my engines to be as simple as possible so if something does go wrong its only a couple of things. For me the loss of the 30hp is not the end of the world for me. I want to the low end torque those engines provide to make crawling up trails easy. I'm not so concerned about going fast on the interstate (my VG33E is slow as hell anyhow). If I want to make up for the loss I'll just aquire a bigger turbo & make it work.

Does the engine ECU have anything to do with the climate control of the A/C of the qx4? Will the climate control, ABS and airbags work even without an ECU if i just choose a TD27T?

We did a bypass on my VG the I swapped in back in Dec. for like 2 weeks so I could get around town & everything still work (I didn't turn on the AC so I don't know about that though).

Also, does the VG33 have the same engine mount positions as the TD27 engines?

It's supposed to but until I see one in person I'm not gonna tell you yes for sure, but like I said, it is supposed to be (especially since a Terrano is a really just a diesel Pathfinder)

I think I got all of your questions...

  12. Well, considering that no one here has done this, we don't knwo much about it. I for one don't know anything at all about it. But the QX4 and pathfinder are almost identical in every way (almost). So all the drivetrain and mechanical parts are the same.

    Jose

Actually some of know quite a bit about it. It's a direct swap, but you have to change out all the fuel lines & gas tank & all that. No need for an ECU though (which is badass) cause it has manual fuel pump. The switch should still work but I would recommend that if you are spending that much money you might as well get the tranny along with it & rebuild it, that way you have a fresh new start.

This is something that'll be done as soon as I graduate (so that I have some time). I can do the petrol swap in a week but the diesel would need a bit more time, cause I want to switch out the tranny, all the other crap & I want to add an extra spare tank as well.
