  1. It sounds electrical, I don't know, I will test it when I'm home tonight. Thanks
  2. Yesterday i was busy in the garden and out of nowhere I hear a strange rattling sound coming from the gas tank of my pathy. I noticed it before sometimes after a drive when i turn off the car, this rattling sounds comes on 4 a few seconds. I was thinking maybe the fuel pomp keeps running a few seconds. But now i had not driven her for 2 days and this sound comes up. Any body had this before ?? Das it mean the fuel pump is going and I have to replace it ? My car is standing under a carport but in the afternoon the back of the car (gas tank site) is catching some sun, out here its always around 35degrees (Celsius) sometimes hotter. Maybe its getting hot ?? I don't know just guessing.
  3. I had myself a new TPS because the one on my Pathy was not performing as written in the ‘trouble diagnosis’ in the Nissan manual. It was only giving a continuity between terminals 2 and 3 at the Closed throttle position and noting on the terminals 1 and 3 at wide open position. But now the new TPS is doing the same thing, only gives a continuity at the closed position and also nothing on the wide open. I checked the TPS on an other R50 Pathfinder, they had one at the dealer, also this TPS was doing the same but the car was running good. Now I start to wonder, is the manual wrong this time or I just had bad luck and checked and bought a broken TPS. I cant imagine that the manual is wrong, the TPS is there to give the right info at a closed or wide open throttle position and mine are not giving any info from the wide open position. Any body ever checked this on his TPS ? Maybe somebody can help me out here. (The dealer here don’t have a clue).
  4. My corner in the house is on the back porch, important its close to the Barbecue. ( Upload failed. Please ask the administrator to check the settings and permissions ) Administrator please help I have no preference in brand of tools, as long they get the job done its fine by me. I use a plastic tool box, why ? I found it one day at work lying around empty in our mechanic room and was thinking, I can use that at home. I have no tools in the pathy, just the standard tools that come with the truck.
  5. Just swapped my tranny for a rebuilt one last week and my (Nissan) manual told me to make sure to remove the crankshaft positioner sensor before dropping the tranny. I have a '96 pathy I don't know if your model have a crankshaft positioner sensor. At my pathy its located on top of the case where the tranny is connected with the engine (little difficult to reach).
  6. I like the straight intake pipe setup, i am looking 4 a straight pipe 2. Is it really necessary we put those 2 hoses onto that pipe or can i put those small (breather) air filters on to it ? Its easier to find a straight pipe without those openings. At the moment I've cut open the closed space in the bumper under the signal light, took away the standard air intake box and replaced it with a self made 'cold airflow pipe' coming from the front of the bumper and going direct in to the opening of the stock airbox. With a K&N filter.
  7. Will it happen a lot, air bubbles coming in to the cooler ? And how long will it take b4 the cooler gets full of air ? Than i better rotate mine.
  8. Anybody put a Throttle Body Spacer on yet ? I'm wondering if they really work. Somebody have some experience ?
  9. Cleaned the lines yesterday with carburetor cleaner i used the whole can. I soaked it all out till only the radiator cleaner liquid came out clean of the lines. After that i used my dive thank to put some high pressure true the lines to clean and dry them out. Worked great.
  10. u could do a compression check on each cylinder, low compression would reveal a bad head gasket. I get the air out by filing up the radiator, don't close the radiator, start the engine and let it get hot so the thermostat open up and air will come out, fill it up when nesesarry. Keep the engine running and don't close the radiator maybe some coolant will come out and some air bubbles. After the second opening from the thermostat my air was gone and closed it and all was good.
  11. A lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust sounds to me your engine is burning gasoline mixed with coolant. That could be coming from a leaking head gasket. (worse case a crack in the engine block or head) That way the coolant can leak in to one of the cylinders and burn it and that's giving a lot of white smoke. Check if u radiator stays on level and check of there is coolant in your engine oil. But u telling the smoke was gone after checking it later, is it still gone ? If its not coming back and u car is still running ok and everything looks good than i don't know what it was.
  12. Wao, I wish I lived in the states so I can tint all of you guys windows and make some extra money. That's a lot of money for getting your windows tinted. I dit it myself and cost me about $50 to do all 9 windows. I didn't do the front window because its a very dark tint I put on, that will give some problems driving at night. The back window I do in 2 pieces to keep the corners from bubbling or opening up. Its not really necessary to take out the windows, take out the rubbers. (taking out the windows will make the job easier do) The trick is use a lot of water with lots of soap in it, that soap where u wash the dishes with, that way u can move the foil any place u want. U even can take it of again to remove that hair or dirt. Use a special rubber tool or a credit card to get the bubbles out, again with lost of water. After that it will dry up nice and smooth. When its dry cut of the foil that's sticking out on the sites with a sharp 'stainless steel' blade to finish it up. I know myself it has to look like its factory tinted. U just have to do it and give it a tray before spending so much money. Maybe u go wrong the first window but u learn from that. I know its not easy but its also not that difficult. Lots of water with soap and Patience. Good luck
  13. I don't know if anything changed between the '96 model and the model u have but i can tell u about the 96 model. I think its the same. Once i removed the 2 screws and didn't find more screws I grab and pull the top of the dash panel near the air conditioner vents. (u right about the vents they are coming out) Once the top is unsnapped, continue until the bottom of the dash below the radio is unsnapped. Unplug the connectors attached to the rear of the cigarette lighter and hazard switch. I build in a DVD player and painted the dash panel.
  14. Thanks, The old transmission is already of the car and I'm waiting 4 the rebuilt transmission to come. The oil lines r hanging in my garage waiting to be cleaned. The cooler is going to be replaced (new) so its only the lines who need to be cleaned. This is going to work, thanks guys.
  15. I am putting in a rebuilt automatic transmission. Now i want to clean the inside of the transmission lines (to and from the cooler) I think i have to use hi pressure, lots of metal pieces in the oil from the old transmission. I'm replacing the trans. oil cooler also. Can anybody tell me what is the best way to do this and with what to clean it ? Thanks
  16. Ok cool, so no worries when i am going to start the engine. The difference in teeth was between the cams, it was 39 and not 40. I experienced, its a common thing that mechanics here on the island do things wrong, also at the only one Nissan dealer we have. Luckily i can hold a wrench myself (and my copy of a official garage manual 4 the '96 Nissan Pathfinder is a great help 2 me) Now everything is good to go. Thanks people
  17. Just changed my t-belt on my '96 pathfinder. When starting I noticed that the belt was put on wrong (arrows on the belt pointing to the back of the car and not to the front) and after counting the teeth between the camshaft pulleys it was of one teeth. Now the car was running good but was slow in the beginning of the acceleration and than out of nowhere i feel the car goes faster (like a turbo kicking in). Somebody told me ones that people put the t-belt of one teeth so the car is faster in top gear. I put the new t-belt on according the 96 Pathfinder manual, everything looks good all aligned and the right count of teeth. After 2 turns clockwise still all good the only thing is, during the 2 turns the deflection of the belt is different each time. After the 2 turns (engine to TDC No 1, and all aligned at timing marks) the deflection is good again. Same thing after repeated the '2 turns clockwise' like 2 times more. Is this normal or is there something wrong?
  18. I'm on the Dutch Antilles, Curacao, so the closest is the US. I found one in Indiantown FL. they rebuilt one and ship it to me for a price around $ 1600,- and i get 1 Year, Unlimited-mile Warranty.
  19. ---------------------------------- No replacing it myself is not a problem. Its of the car already, next step find a good rebuilt one.
  20. Thanks, Maybe anybody have some good experiences with a company that re-build automatic transmissions. I found one on the Internet but there must be more. (maybe i don't look good).
  21. Hey to all, i am new here but not new with a pathfinder. For one year i was driving a '95 pathy, after a year i change it 4 a '96 3.3 SE 4x4. After one year with this '96 the A/T was not working good and making a lot of strange noises and no shifting to 3e gear. After a good result on a computer check, i took the A/T Solenoid assembly out of the A/T to look if there where no damages and if all return springs where not broken or anything. Also check the solenoids. Everything was ok but a lot off little metal pieces in the oil and all around on the solenoid assembly, 4 me that was the point to just stop looking any further and decide to replace the A/T. Now i life on a island and we have only one Nissan dealership and no good mechanics to rebuilt a A/T. So i want to order one from the states and looked at Internet and found a company that re-builder A/T, they gave me a good quote. I don't know if any of u have any experiences with a good A/T re-builder, that also ships outside of the US. Its a little difficult to check out some company's sins i am on this island. I can replace the A/T myself, but not rebuilt it. Hoping to fix it soon, because already missing driving my Pathy. Ciao
