Haha was that a suggestion??? I’ll never buy another automatic again, if I can help it. And actually the next vehicle I’m looking for is a low mileage 2004 Nissan Pathfinder with manual trans. I’m willing to fly out and drive back for it.. I’m about 2-3 years from a new vehicle though.. so this one has got to straighten up and fly right! It’s really been driving great. I have my hopes up for this transmission. Edit: just for info purposes, this lockup(not OD) “issue” only happens if I take my foot all the way off the gas while in 4th(OD) and locked. The RPM drop below locked RPM when you coast so I guess that’s accomplished by unlocking. That makes sense though because your coasting would be reduced if you were locked up, just like trying to coast while in gear with a manual trans. I wish there was a way to disable coasting.. The connector was good. I think my supposed lockup issue is actually the trans going into coast mode and since I have mud tires coasting doesn’t last long at all so I am constantly feeling it lockup after I coast. The other issue hasn’t come up again at all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

From this guys explanation I’m assuming it is normal since he is suggesting to perform the exact scenario I am experiencing to see if lockup is happening or not. That is awesome. And you said loose wiring.. I have a single connector for the transfercase (the top left one) that won’t click in fully and I actually found it completely unplugged when I was removing the bad transmission. I’m going to check it on my lunch break! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Check this out: When I get up to 55ish I let off the gas and then hit the gas again and it kicks out of then back into OD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Last night I found my throttle cable needed to be loosened a little bit because it was constantly keeping the throttlebody open slightly. Do you think that could have been the problem? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m worried about this transmission. Some things I’ve noticed are: 1. OD kicks out and then back in when pressing the gas while cruising at 45-65mph(I wonder if this is “gear searching” others speak about) 2. 2-3 has a slightly slow shift(expected at 158k miles) Other than that the trans has been doing great, however, today on the way home from my sons baseball game something happened.. While slowing down at a stop sign it kicked into a lower gear and it felt like a downshift in a car with a manual transmission. I immediately said “woooah, what was that” because it was noticeable. Then finally at the following stop sign it did the same thing but this time the “4WD” light came on. When I came to a complete stop the light went away. This last thing may just have been me freaking out but I was babying it onto the freeway and I thought I detected what felt like neutral between the 3-4 shift. Should I go ahead and call the used parts place and let them know what’s going on? I have about 15 more days on my 30 day warranty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So after I replaced my transmission my A/C no longer worked and before I started the transmission it was blowing very cold. The amount of time it was down was about 10 days including the time it took to locate a replacement trans. So far I have: 1. Confirmed clutch is engaging. 2. Removed/flushed evaporator and cleaned/inspected TXV. 3. Evacuated, vacuum, and recharge. 4. Spun compressor clutch by hand, it has consistently smooth resistance. 5. 100% confirmed correct amount of refrigerant. When I hook the gauges up I have the following pressures AC off: H-110psi L-110psi AC on: H-110psi L-90psi Now when I bring the RPM up to 2500 the low side comes down to 80psi but the high side doesn’t move at all, not even a little bit. Does anyone know about this stuff? I’m kinda stuck on it being an internal failure in the compressor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine smelled like gas and alcohol very strong. It was also dripping out of the vent near the canister. When I took it out to install the one I got from the junk yard, gas poured out of it.. I also replaced the purge valve and vent valve so it’s entirely possible that one of those was the 1447 culprit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I drove just under 100 miles today and a quarter of it was in stop and go traffic in a construction zone on the interstate and I am so pleased to say that she is running great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Guys, this transmission is solid! I put about 5 miles on it so far and it shifts almost perfectly! I snapped some photos of the oil that came out of it: My AC has stopped working now... I’m not sure what exactly the problem is yet but it wasn’t working at all. I’ll cycle the compressor during high RPM tomorrow to see if something breaks loose. Wooooh! I got my car back :] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s coming along fellas. Little more involved than I remembered but all in all it’s been smooth. The transmission/transfercase assembly is huge... the transfer case weighs almost as much as the transmission! The oil is slightly brown on this transmission but it doesn’t smell bad at all. I am mating the transfercase to the new transmission right now. I’m not sure if I’ll finish it today or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The weekend is finally here and soon I will be test driving my new(to me) transmission! I hope to have everything put together before sundown tomorrow. Tonight I got everything disconnected from the transmission except the dipstick tube, TC bolts, and bellhousing bolts. Exhaust is out as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Someone once told me to tack the spacer together and see if you have it aligned correctly, and if not then take it back apart and tack it again until you have it just right.

I smelled the wire loom, which was wet, and it was purple powered then pressure washed. I wish they wouldn’t have done that. Hopefully whoever did it was careful where they pointed the pressure washer. And so it begins... again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This thing is quite clean! I hope it was a nice gentle clean 159k highway miles. We shall see :] Just look at those plugs... you can’t even tell mine are plugs, they just look like balls of dirt at the end of a stick from a tree. There’s even plants growing under there and everything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Haha, yes, well I would say that, unfortunately, it wasn't a case of luck but of my own inexperience and impatience. I made some foolish mistakes that will stay with me. You know.. I got mad at God for letting me make these mistakes, because I have seen Him cover my butt on some WAY bigger mistakes and you know what He said to me? He said "if I don't allow your mistakes then you will stay a child forever" to which I replied "yeah but I'll be Your child..." As my life progresses, my relationship with Him changes greatly.. nothing about Him follows what I want or think He should be like. He really is there, and He really is a person, I am so sure of it.. Anyways I will keep yall posted on this stuff. I hope to swing by Lance tomorrow after work for the 158k miles RE4. I hope it is as flawless as my previous JY trans from Givens!
-
Yes. How do you know that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well the trans that Givens said they had disappeared and every other place that was open today didn’t have any RE4s. Givens referred me to a shop that was supposed to have a 59k miles RE4 for $650 but they said it was already gone. I still have Lance and CTV but they’re only open thru the week so I’ll have to wait till Monday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The solenoids looked great and operated with 12v. I stuck a small screw driver inside the ones that didn’t have a spring to return the piston. Everything I put my eyes on looked good except there was that trash inside the valve body. I couldn’t remove the gasket for the one side of the valve body so I don’t know how it looked under there. The accumulator orings were all good. Everything looked good... At this point, I’ve damaged that transmission badly somewhere, and I’m worried about fixing what is damaged only to have another part fail soon down the road. I’ve located 3 RE4R01A’s locally: Givens Junkyard 159k miles $500+$25 Lance Used Parts 158k miles $500+$25 CTV Used Parts 149k miles $650+$75 The last one I put in came from Givens and it had 121k miles for I think $700. Or maybe it was $600, I can’t remember. That transmission was literally perfect so I am thinking about going to Givens again. Buuuuut, the engine I got from them had detonation when I first started it and it blew a head gasket right then.. also the heads were badly worn... but that may have been from me recessing the cam seals.... Anyway, I can’t wait to get this thing back up and running. I got an electric fan from a Volvo 940 waiting to go in and fall is almost here so the trails are already calling me... I got it back together! Wooh! That was fairly difficult. But it was all for nothing as 3rd and 4th are still slipping very badly. Yeah, I did get it into 4th this time by really jamming thru 1st and 2nd but it was slipping just as bad as 3rd! Oh well. That’s that and I can be at peace now about pursuing a replacement, and I got to learn some too. Thank you guys for helping me out and giving me good advice. I hope I can just replace the transmission.. like I said before, my wife isn’t going to go for it and I might have to let my Nissan go for a while. Sad times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
There’s some junk in there.. yes, but I don’t know what I’m doing or looking and maybe it’s enough crud to stop it from working or maybe it’s not... The accumulator springs fell out when I brought the valve body down and I need someone’s help who has done this because I don’t know how they went. To say this is intimidating is an understatement... I am seriously concerned about whether or not I can get this thing back together.. And help or advice is greatly welcomed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I relaxed last night and didn’t touch it. I may or may not dig in to it tonight. My wife is trying to talk me into giving up on my Nissan... honestly if it was bad luck, I might, but this is because of my own mistakes and I can’t just say screw it. I watched some YouTube videos and it doesn’t look too difficult. I saw one of the videos talking about testing the lockup solenoid and that orange connector is the one he was working with. I hope it’s some trash in there guys.. I really do. If I need a new transmission then I’m afraid, for the sake of my marriage, I might be forced to buy a different vehicle.. nevertheless my Nissan will rise again, just at a later date. I think I have successfully destroyed my transmission. I dropped the pan last night and changed the filter but I made sure to leave the filter unseated so I could finish killing it the rest of the way. I’m pretty sure I got it. I’m going to put the old filter back in tonight since the other one is slightly bent from being bolted down while unseated. If that fixes it then I’m thinking about pouring sand in there since the water didn’t work. Really though I’m too stupid to be working on cars I guess.. Edit: the problem now is that 3rd gear is barely grabbing at all. 1st and 2nd are normal but as soon as it shifts into 3rd it freewheels almost completely. I found a matching trans with 158k miles for $525... I’m having a really hard time convincing the wife though. Hey... so there was an orange plug on the bottom side of the valve body that was slightly unplugged. I squeezed it and it snapped in.. does that sound familiar to anyone?? Here’s some pics of what I found in the pan: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
