  1. well scratch all this according to the nissan manual the test was done wrong so the level of 125-135 could be alot high with more cranks this was 3 turns it say the standard is 178? and min is 128? huh?
  2. Does anyone know what the compresssion in each cyclinder should be? 1992 Pathfinder vg30E? the first cyclinder was 125, second 125 third 135 on the passenger side head
  3. Well, it was the Timing it was off by three teeth on the crank. the pathfinder runs smooth as it did before all of this happend except! I am getting a little bit of clack (almost like low octane gas) going up hills my friend was saying we just need to throw a timing light on it? but, other then that it does not clack or run bad at idle, arround town or when the trans kicks down. I am going to compression test the engine here in a bit and see what that looks like. I would like to thank everyone here for helping me with my pathe. the timing marks are the same for the 92 and 94 I ended up on a site called nissanhelp.com where I got a manual for my truck. I have decided to keep my pathfinder
  4. :shrug:I have a 1992 Pathfinder SE 4x4 As I posted before I snapped the cam just got the cam in after waiting 7 days for it. I installed it and now it turns over but won't fire or run? I replaced the tensioner bearing and made sure the crank was tdc (keyway vertical) I put cams on marks and tightened the belt I checked the spark and it is good checked compression in #1 cyclinder (good) it is getting fuel into cyclinders (good) check spark plug wires (correct & good) SPARK checked the cap (new) no miles spark plugs (new) no miles wires in good condition I have not hooked up the radiator to engine yet wanted to see if it would fire before putting it all back together Is their something that keeps the motor from starting without water flow? (saftey feature) what I have is the pulley removed, radiator removed, belts removed (except timing belt) Don't know what to do have never had such a hard time getting something back up and running as this pathfinder. This truck did not run great with busted cam but it ran, now it does not fire at all acts like there is no spark? but, I checked that with screw driver I had high hopes for this pathfinder but, I am seriously going to sell it or soon! if i can't solve this problem soon. when does it end? I know i know When I quit buying old nissan crap! lol
  5. It is really interesting everything i have ever worked on with high miles looks nothing close to this I was pretty shocked
  6. Hey guys here is an update on my dead horse lol! well I will let you watch the video not as bad as i thought http://picasaweb.google.com/kharmafactoryr...293243463810802 snapped right after the first bearing
  7. Not a problem I am going to find out exactly what caused this. here is where I am at 10:00AM tow truck arrived (yeaterday) with my pathe 10:30AM I removed the fan, shroud, belts, timing cover I noticed at TDC my driverside cam was dead on but my passenger side was off by three teeth I also noticed micro small shavings (metal dust) in the inner cam wheels removed the harmonic then lower timing case cover. removed and examined the rolling tentioner and spring the roller I could roll and it would continue to spin noisey bearings looked it had a torch held to it rainbow coloring. having the crank TDC I adjusted the drivers cam to its mark when i did the same with the passenger side the cam wheel came forward a good 1.5 inches and could be turned with no resistance unlike the driverside cam wheel. I removed the valve cover and the cam is broken in half. I have not removed the head yet to see what the valves look like? the motor oil is clear and where it needs to be on dipstick and coolant is also (before taking apart) 4:00pm decided to quit for the day Might pull the head today but, I am so bummed I might just leave it for a bit and start riding my motorcycle. it was the passenger side, I have not pulled the head yet I am wonding if i should pull both heads? and just make sure both sides are not hammered. one good thing if i do my exaust manifold will get fixed in the process are headers a hassle to put in? I have taken picture of all of this I will have to post thanks again
  8. 9. hey slick how much do you want for those heads? I am looking at 210.00 per head from autozone for salavage head with 1 yr warranty is that good? just let me know
  10. Well the final verdict is that due to not replacing the rolling tentioner I snapped the passenger side cam almost in half don't know what that is going to cost or if i should just get some other heads? just replaced the tentioner, cap and rotor and the plugs and now I am at a dead stand still! I work for a demolition company thinking maybe ill just take it to one of the job sites and blow it sky high!! starting to feel like i did when I had my porsches never seems to end these pathfinders have a parts replacement schedule I swear buy this then this quits. I know most cars are this way but I have not had but a month break from buying parts for this Partsfinder oh well I guess it is time to buy nissan stock, or sell. my toyota truck 4x4 was alot more trouble free with alot more miles 478,000 when it died I am sure because there was less to break. The SE has all kinds of crap to go wrong and in time it will like everything else. thanks for your help time to go find some more parts to buy
  11. so far I have noticed that the timing is off 2 teeth not sure about the other things you mentioned but will check it out
  12. I just got done removing the top timing cover and the belt is still tight? but the timing marks are showing that it is 2 teeth off the mark the crank is on the last mark the driver side cam is on the marks and the passenger side cam is 2 teeth from being on the marks hope the valves as not toast
  13. I am almost positive this is the same problem I am having with mine found in thread http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showto...mp;#entry241247 my pathe is home now tow truck droped it off and now I am going to pull the top cover and see just how bad it is. they drove it from the street to my drive way no backfires just sounded out of time
  14. I can't believe it you are having the same problem I have currently mechanic never could fix the problem truck is sitting in my driveway. did you find out what this was?
  15. I was reading the 1993 pathfinder brochure and it was saying that the security was standard in the SE models was it the same for 1992 SE? how do i find out if i have a security system?
  16. my 1992 SE came with LSD, 31's roofrack, moonroof, tire carrier, cloth interior(like cordaroy), Stereo pack, molded speaker panels w/ rear speaker boxes, Autotrans,Sport/touring shocks, driving lights, brush guard, skidplate, rocksliders, electric mirrors, towpackage, lego wheels why does that 1993 brochure show leather seats?
  17. Hey slick thanks for your overpowering opinions you see things just like me. if you have put a chunk of money into something why buy something newer to Start over! I am keeping the Pathfinder and was just given a BMW 325i from a friend so that makes a great distraction for my wife since that is hers now. I told her I am going to put big tires 31's back on it since these smaler tires don't seem to do jack but screw up my speedo and keep me out of the hills (crappy clearance) I am going to find someone to do a body lift. fix my exaust add headers and whatever else to spend the 10K she was going to spend on the 99' pathe she just laughed. smaller tires tornado K&N high octane fuel on pathe does not = better mileage my pathe gets 15 mpg reguardless and I am not a lead foot and the automatic does not help thanks again is it possible to change out an automaic for a manual without changing the Transfer case?
  18. I will let you now on those head here pretty quick question? so is it the bolt that go bad? or is it the manifolds and bolts? my mechanic friend was saying the manifolds can be true grinded to take out the warp? I have not examined my manifolds I just know the one side is not quiet when I bought the truck I could hardly hear the truck idle.
  19. I just talked to a friend who is a retired mechanic he was telling me he does not think it is going to need valves if the belt just jumped a few teeth? the truck still runs just rough I won't know if the belt snapped or just jumped until I get the cover off and see what has happened the mechanic that worked on it did not physically examine the belt so I am hoping for the best. my friend was saying he thinks the motor in my truck is the same as they put in the nissan forklifts VG30? if so he knows the motor inside and out. I don't know what to think I guess expect the worse and hope for the best!
  20. I really have to thank you guys for all of the help the verdict is in my pathfinder jumped timing the mechanic said they did a compression test and the 4 cyclinder were like 50 55 65 like 75 so he said I am probably going to need a valve job. he said that not changing out the timing belt tentioner was my downfall. he said they checked the mass air flow and the fuel pump pressure and several other things my bill $48.00 he did not take anything apart so, I am having it towed back to St. George $120.00 and I guess I will find out what a valve job is going to cost me along with new belt and tentioner Does anyone have a clue what I am up agains't having a machine shop do a valve job on this head? maybe I sould have them do some custom work while they are at it (that would really piss my wife off haha!) thanks again
  21. on our trip this week end the pathe just shutdown like it was being starved for gas or air? don't think it is too major but I guess we will see? I have replaced the Trans $1,800 the water pump and timing belt, tires, plugs, wires, switch for adjustible shocks keeps going out? now the Trans overdrive light (dash) does not work the manifolds need to be replaced muffler is starting to come apart at seems to me that is all normal wear stuff for the mileage but, my wife is tired of putting out money on something so old. she says she wants to go some where and know she can get home without breakdown. (don't we all)
  22. I have a 1992 Pathfinder SE 4x4 with brush guard/ rocksliders/premium stereo package 187K miles new tauto trans with less then 10,000 on it new water pump and timing belt it is in great shape. currently in the shop for engine problem? anyways what I am getting at is my wife is tired of dumping money into this truck reguardless how flawless it is cosmetically for the year it is. she is looking at a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder LE 2x2 manual trans has 93K for $10,000 as the new main vehicle We don't use the 4 wheel drive that much so that is not really important, Gas mileage and dependability is more of the issue. we test drove the 1999 and it just seems top heavy? Is the 1999 2X2 as problematic as my old 1992? can we expect the same in gas mileage, seating for 5 and dependability overall? (New Question) different subject I am thinking of keeping this 92'Pathfinder for v-8 transplant I saw a pathfinder with a v-8 on youtube.com is this a costly/timely project? can it be done with the stock auto trans? has anyone done this conversion with the year pathe? any advice is welcome Or should I just forget it all and buy a Yukon here is my current pathfinder http://picasaweb.google.com/kharmafactoryr...935627168381490
  23. I went to the north rim in my pathfinder this weekend leaving from st. george, Utah stopped in kanab, Utah to top off tank at shell 6.9 gals drove 23 miles towards North rim and my truck lost all power. thought it might be the trans at first but, when I shift to neutral (automatic) the truck would hardly idle it was not poping or missing it just sounded like it was starving for fuel or low spark? the timing belt was replaced less then a thousand miles ago could the belt some how have jumped? when i put the truck into drive it shakes and strugles to move. This truck has had no engines problems since I bought it last year noticed in december 06 the left Exaust manifold is noisey until warmed up (nissan defect) can the oxy sensor make the truck run this way I checked the Oil and it was to the level and clean I checked the gas line after the fuel filter and there was gas check the radiator (after cooled off) and it was to the top still no leaks, nothing seemed to be out of place? does anyone know what this is or could be? New trans was installed 8,000 miles ago new fuel filer and oil change 500 miles ago New water pump and timing belt 1,500 miles ago No leaks from Pathfinder
