  1. I have an 88 SE-V6 that broke down on me for the first time a few weeks back. You guys have always been such a great help. Anyway I'm pretty sure it's my fuel pump but not 100% My ECM is reading a crank angle sensor code. But it had been reading that code since I've had the truck. Basically what happened was I noticed a loss of power and a general not running right for a few weeks. I tried to figure it out but one day it just loss power dramatically and once I pulled over and let off the pedal it would not start. So I'm thinking either fuel pump , or pressure regulator or maybe the crank angle sensor. I'm pretty sure it's a fuel problem. Also my tank is not vented correctly. Ive always been able to smell gas only when the tank is fuller. Thanks in advance Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  2. It's a 5 SPD and I adjusted the timing a while back. Can't see my marks so I did it by ear. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  3. My 88 V6 path is having an issue. I've had for about 5 months and driven 11k no issues. My problem now is it stalls or sputters and doesn't wanna go right if I press the pedal down hard. If I barely accelerate u can't really feel it. Lot less power than I'm used to. Plugs are new. No cat on this one. I checked the throttle body visually and replaced the fuel filter. I'm thinking maybe 02 sensor but my fuel mileage hasn't really changed. Any thoughts ? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  4. On my 88 SE you have to press the shifter down to change gears in the transfer case. Kinda like a safety I guess. Similar to a VW or BMW to go to reverse. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  5. Cool. I almost bought the clayzilla but wasn't sure. Honestly I think the rubbing compound did more for me than the clay bar did. But idk Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  6. First one is after. Second is before. Done using half a day plus Meguiars clay bar, rubbing compound, and carnauba wax Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  7. Yes. Only used lube on back of pads. I guess my next step is too bleed the rear then the front again. And it's a possibility the front drv side caliper is bad too. The passenger side had one piston locked up and rubbing when I changed it. May go ahead and change the driver side too. The part is not too $$ Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  8. Also the pedal feel is worse after changing pads and goes down further than it did before new pads Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  9. It used to only squeal when braking. But it started making a light squeal all the time right before I changed the pads. And it also still does it after changing the pads. But it gets worse and the noise changes some when braking. The rotors looked fine. I have not bled the back ones. I do have 4 wheel disc. I'm not sure what bed the pads means. I did use that lube stuff that you put on the pads Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  10. Don't think you read the post. I've already bled and replaced front pads Braking is actually worse than it was before bleeding and new pads Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  11. I have an 88 SE-V6 Path. Its had front brake issues since I bought it back in April. On first glance the pass side pads looked new but the caliper was bad. I've sinced replaced the pass side caliper and all front pads. The driver side pads were worn all the way. Not sure if the bad pass caliper caused the pads to look new on that side and the driver to be bad or if some idiot only replaced one side. I'm still having some squealing and various noises coming from front brakes and the pedal is going down further than it should and def not braking like it should either. I've bled them twice. So I'm thinking possibly bad master cylinder as I can't think of anything else it could be. Thoughts ?? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  12. I actually got a new one from stylin trucks for like $33 they were $96 in all the part stores Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  13. Wow. That's crazy. Wonder if it works. Lol. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  14. Need some input on my dilemma. I have an 88 SE V6 path. The pass side manifold needs replacing ( its very loud and possibly cracked ). Problem is I took it to a very reputable shop and he basically said that there are so many unknowns that it's probably not worth fixing. IE: broken studs , possible head removal and all the nightmarish things you will probably run into trying to replace a manifold on a 27yr old truck with 200K plus miles. Esp since I don't have a lot of money in the truck. Any suggestions ? Thought about maybe trying to get it welded but even the best welders have trouble with cast plus you got the temp getting hot and cold. Any thoughts ? I have already purchased all the parts. Thanks Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  15. I could be wrong but you don't have to have that section. An exhaust shop could probably just weld in a piece of exhaust pipe. When I took my mid pipe in to have most of my exhaust replaced the guy didn't use it. Just bent some pipe in its place and clamped and welded it in. Maybe an option for you. You can always let a reputable exhaust shop take a look and tell u what they think. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  16. I was told the expansion valve was behind the dash and hard to get at? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  17. I have an 88 SE-V6 with a locked up ac compressor. Been wanting to get the AC going. Its never been converted from R-12. Problem is I had a good idea of what it would cost until speaking with a very reputable mechanic that told me the expansion valve (thing that meters freon) needed to be replaced to get it going again. Problem is (along with most of the labor ) is that it's behind the dash. My ? Is does it really need to be replaced ? Thoughts ? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  18. My 88 has a cracked manifold on the pass side And it has that sound. Its hard to tell because of the heat shield. I would almost bet that's what it is. But what they said about a stethoscope is correct. They're pretty cheap. Would be worth it. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  19. Timing should be 12 BTDC Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  20. Mine is leaking where the steering shaft goes into the gear box & I just replaced the pressure side a month ago so it must be an issue. I know the parts are high. The seal kit is $30$35 and my hose was $65 so that maybe a good idea if the newer system is better. 88 SE V6 here. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  21. Got to looking at it today and noticed the power steering pump would move some when I pressed on belt. I tightened up the bolt on the right side of the pump behind the pulley. It stopped the play but not the squeal. The belts seem ok guess it wouldn't hurt to change them. Cost not being much Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  22. I have an 88 Path SEV6. It has belt squeal at hard acceleration or high rev at idle. My AC doesn't work and the belt isn't hooked up. What would be causing this? The belts seem to be tight. Any ideas ? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  23. Reason I said I thought tranny rebuild may have something to do with it is I got the feeling from talking to the guy I bought it from and looking under truck it wasn't the best job. But as far as I know he didn't mess with the transfer case. As far as changing the gear that regulates speed is it easy to get to? I'm guessing you buy diff one for diff size tires? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  24. My info plate n the driver door says 235-75-15 (tire size on it now) which is why I didn't consider that as a factor. I'm pretty sure the guy I bought it from botched up the tranny rebuild and has something to do with it. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  25. It has 235/75/15 which is stock size unless it came with the 31-1050s Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
