I have the OMEs and it rides like a Cadillac. Very happy with them. I might part the truck out. Care to make me an offer?

$4+ a gallon - what's your personal solution

I'm rockin' a Yamaha Razz 50cc scooter AKA "the Yamahammer". Luckily I live only about a mile away from work. It only goes 27mph. -
Oh my God, Kitta. I know this is an old thread, but how's your Dad? My father committed suicide back in '89. It changed my life forever. Kinda struck a chord when I read that. I hope everything is OK.

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way... Are your tires properly inflated? I alway look at the most simple retarded thing first. Then I'd check you panhard bar.

I'd like to take the time to wish everyone a happy and safe new year!

HAs anyone here used a regular boat anchor for that?

See, you did not mention any other mods when you started this thread. Camshafts will absolutely change your dynamic compression ratio, although they will not change you static compression ratio. And you didn't say that you fiddled with your ECU. One of the most common things to do when tuning your ECU is to play with the knock sensor threshhold. When you do this (I don't know if you did) you ABSOLUTELY need to run higher octane fuel. Higher than 87 that is. Not know what you had done to you truck, I had assumed that you were talking about a stock motor. You need to clarify before saying that home made 94 octane will outperform 93 octane pump gas. I personally don't think you're on the ragged edge and 1 octane point would make any difference at all, but what do I know, I've only been building and working on high performance cars for 15 years. But yes I would say that you should run high octane in a motor with aftermarket cams and a tuned ECU. And you should lay off the caffine :coffee!:
-
I have noticed no difference in performance in my 94XE. As for the fuel prices, look at the bright side, we still have some of the cheapest gas in the world.
-
Thank you for the compliment on my rims. The fuel requirement for a 98 Pathy in 87 octane. I don't think you would notice any improvment in performance with using higher octane. You should use a stopwatch and check to see the difference, if any. I would be surprised, but I've been wrong before. For what it's worth, I used 93 octane in my Suby 2.5RS when it said it only required 87. I didn't see any difference in performance, but I did see a slight improvment in fuel mileage.

Where are you? I have a spare set of leggo wheels painted bronze and a spare set of chrome steelies

I live in america too. Anyway, I think your ideas of octane and detonation resistance are a little confused. And what do your coil packs have to do with caring about detonation? Your engine doesn't "see" octane. It "hears" detonation and advances or retards your timing accordingly. If you're getting any detonation at all you have problems. And you ECU can only advance the timing to a certain degree, so I your fuel (lets say 93 octane) is stable up to the temperature and cylinder pressure that your motor can generate at that maximum timing, anything over that 93 octane is a waste. I can't imagine on a VG33 in a pathy, the timing curve is very agressive. Sorry for the novel and I hope I didn't confuse you.

Cool. Keep us posted. I'm keeping my eye out for an affordable GM 6.0L

Careful, that stuff will give you cancer

Sweet. Are there any oil pan clearance issues? I have a line on an entire Q45 for close to free. I've always loved the VH45 and I know they are under rated from the factory. They usually dyno between 305-310hp. The only research I've done on them is to stuff one in my 240Z. The intake is too tall and the oil pan interferes with the front crossmember. I haven't looked into it for my pathy. How well did it fit in yours?
-
I know this probably doesn't belong here, but there is a brand new set of NISMO 16x7 Bronze wheels for sale for $650. Made by RAYS eng. "Buy it now" auction. I have no connection to the guy, I just stumbled across what looks like a smokin' deal.
-
Not only width issues, but a very tall motor. I've been looking into one for my 240Z. Also oil pan to crossmember issues. Really nice motor that makes good power, but it's a big bugger.
-
Where the hell did you get those dyno numbers. There was NEVER a factory GM 4.3L that made 300hp. The most powerful 4.3L was the X code motors that came in the Syclone and Typhoon. They were both turbocharged and intercooled and they were rated at 280hp. I think your university's dyno was a little off. The new 6.0L V8 makes just a little north of 300hp.

My Pathy's black, hence Dark. It's also a '94XE. Not too much thought put into it.
-
Nope. The 6x5 is the bolt pattern. 6 lugs 5" lug spacing. The pathy is a 6x5.5" pattern, so the 6x5 wont work. Early Toyota wheels will also work if you didn't already know. My wheels are actually Chevy Suburban wheels that I had the centers machined to fit. Hope that helps.

I've had mine on my '94 (I know, different animal) and I love it. Not much lift, but it flexes nicely and rides great. Smooth on the highway and very contolled on the back roads. They seem to have the damping rates on the shock spot-on. I learned not to cheap out on suspension parts on my cars. Every time I did, I hated it. Spend the money, it's worth it.
-
Lookin good I can't wait to hear what kind of power increase you realize. I have a spare motor and tranny crying for a rebuild, but I'm a sucker for the small block chevy...
-
I love my Old Man Emu shocks, but they were a little pricey.

Yeah, I had the pleasure to drill and helicoil three of mine on the driver's side this Monday. What a PITA!! The stinkin broken studs just refused to come out! Oh well, a few hours and a LOT of swearing and it's all done. SOOO nice not to have that ticking noise. Get in there and do it yourself. You'll feel better after your done... a real sense of acomplishment. Good luck and have fun. Oh yeah, beer helps

I agree with Redpath, I live in CT and my frame was toast. Nothing a bunch of 1/8" plate, plasma cutter and a Millermatic 250 couldn't fix. Remember to check the floor under the rear seats. Pay special attention to the rear suspension pickup points. Good luck and great find for $400. Oh yeah... I bought mine for $300...

That's all I was trying to get across. Knock down the high spots and you should be good. Great work. You should get at least a little increase in power from a mild port job. Most of my experience is with Datsun L series sixes, and you can see a noticable difference with a mild port job. Hopefully the increase will be substantial with the aftermarket cams. What are the cam specs?
