  1. Well, I really don't know anything about that. Anyone have a link to some pics or someone provides some more info on that subject? I am definately interested on something with little fab work that is easy. and $2k is about the top that I would be willing top spend on this whole thing. Thanks for all the help so far.... I've been looking at D44's on ebay now as well and my dad likes the idea... so this maybe something I actually get to do I don't know what I'd do without this site.... THANKS ALL!!!!
  2. Ok, thanks. I'll guess I'll pass on this wagon and wait for a better deal. I plan on going to the junk yeard soon and checking for one there. I'm selling my other car and I live in Oklahoma where that ice storm hit and have been doing tree work, so I can afford to do a couple of fun things finally without going broke. Thanks for all the help, and if anyone's interested in a 79 Jeep wagon with D44 front and rear... here's the link. http://tulsa.craigslist.org/car/532227504.html
  3. I would have someone else do it I'm sure. I'm still not sure if I'm going to go through with this or not, just an idea I'm entertaining for now. Would $800 be a good deal for an old jeep with a little rust if I'm only looking at it for the axles and suspension? Or could I find what I need somewhere else for cheaper?
  4. With a 79 jeep 2 door wagon, (assuming all parts needed are in good condition) would I have just about everything I need? Or would there still be a LOT of extra's? It has D44's front and rear, but I would just do the front for now. (Don't know how to post a pic without a website or I'd show it to you)
  5. If I don't know enough about it, would it be in my best interest to pay someone to do it? Obviously, that's just more money, but it could be done quicker and if something goes wrong, it's not my fault, lol. I know someone who could do it, so it's someone I would trust. Thanks for all the info guys, it's been VERY helpful!
  6. So D44's from a wagoneer wouldn't require any modifying of the actual axle right? And I did misread your post... sorry. I've just found a couple of jeeps for sale that don't run that have D44's on the front and rear and am thinking it's worth the 800 for the setup... any suggestions? And I know this is an extensive process... but does anyone have any estimates of possible labor costs or just overall costs? That could be the make it or break it factor for me. Thanks again for all the insight!
  7. Ok, where would I be able to find rockwells? And what's the downside of jeep axles? Purchased at a JY would save a TON of $$$.....

    SAS

I'm toying with the idea of doing a SAS but am curious as to what axles would fit. I know some have used Dana's and even shortened a Dana 44. But could it be as simple as getting a (not limited to, but just an option) jeep cherokee front axle and putting it under the pathy's? I'm not real sure what all has to go into picking the right axle other than of course width and spline count and stability. Please throw any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions out there and I'm sure we'll come to some kind of conclusion. TIA!
  9. So in case anyone is interested, turns out the problem was quite simple. (Atleast, if it is a final solution.) Turns out the only thing wrong was the throttle positioning sensor, which I replaced back in March-ish and it fixed the problem for a little while, but started acting up again aronud August. I guess the TPS was a bad part. But it's running now and hopefully it will continue to run for me. Thanks for the help all!
  10. If you're going into an audio store to buy them, they should be able to look it up for you, but I have a 94 and put 5x7's in front and back.
  11. I'm starting to get really frustrated with my pathy! Now it won't start, it will crank and crank and won't start. It has had a new battery and starter this summer and I pulled the ECU fuse for about an hour and it didn't change a thing. The pathy won't start.... did I get the wrond O2 sensor? I'm just stabbing in the dark cause I have no idea what's going on. HELP!!! It's my only car at school.
  12. It could also be a bad indicator switch, that's what it was on my 94. Cost around $200 I think to get it fixed, but the light isn't on anymore. It worked fine before and works fine after, just a light preference.
  13. Ok, I'll try that tomorrow, I didn't have time today since as soon as it was changed I had somewhere to be. Thanks for the help.
  14. Well I replaced the O2 sensor with a "new to me" that a got from someone here and it worked in there pathy, and it didn't help. It's still running horribly. I didn't get it as tight as I would've liked because the bolt from the y-pipe connecting the the pipe going into the straight pipe to the cat was pointing the wrong way and was put on backwards and was in the way. Is it being not tight enough to make it not work properly? Or is there something I have to reset with the computer? Any suggestions or is that just not the quick fix I was hoping for? Should I just give up on the old thing? TIA for the help!
  15. I found a few, and this was the cheapest... but I'm sure there's a lot more. And I'd like to see if anyone's seen any for less... http://www.4by4connection.com/nissan1.html
  16. I had a similar problem twice this summer. I started my 94 up and there were NO interior lights, guages, radio, power windows or locks, or A/C, but the engine was still running. Which sucked because it was about 1:30 on a hot Oklahoma summer day with no A/C and the windows stuck up and no blower motor!!! I'm not sure if ALL of this is cutting out on you, but for me it was a wire coming of the positve battery post that was almost corroded through. I stripped and soddered the wire and it fixed everything! Might check the wires coming off you battery first to see if everything is in good condition, and then go from there.
  17. Does it make sense that it comes and goes? Sometimes it will run fine for a long time (month or more) and then all the sudden it qill start acting up again. It makes sense that the mixture is off because I can smell gas when I turn off the engine sometimes but nothing is leaking.
  18. I think there may be some rips in the boot. What does that imply? I may just take it somewhere else to get it aligned... and then probably put a SS on since it has a 3" SL and I'm looking into a 3" BL.
  19. Well thanks for the help guys, after about 3 hours with tin snips and a hammer, I got the back all cut up to hold the speakers and the front fit perfectly! Glad that's over and it sounds GREAT!
  20. Well I read the codes and got Heated O2 Sensor and Knock Sensor. Do I just need to replace these and would could these be causing my problems? I've never really heard of a problem with a knock sensor and didn't know that an O2 sensor would really mess anything up that bad.
  21. Hey guys, I have a 94 4x4 5 speed and at the beginning of the year my pathy was acting like is wanted to die when idling (clutch in). I changed the air and oil filters, and got the injectors cleaned in June, IIRC, and it stopped. And just this week, it started again. It pumps black smoke out the exhaust and acts like it wants to die. Also, it's jerky in first gear as if I was accelerating hard and then releasing the gas pedal, but it's fine in 2-5. I don't understand and everytime I take it somewhere, it doesn't act up so it can't be diagnosed. I'm in college and don't really have time (or the money) to tinker around with every little thing. Any ideas? I'm at a loss!
  22. Wow, looks really good! I like the hieght.
  23. Well sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been busy getting ready for school and getting going. Here's what Hibdon said is wrong with my front end causing them not to be able to align it: Front inner seal Front axle seal Front inner BRG (?) set Front outer bearing Front outer race Replace both wheel bearings Replace both half shafts REMN (?) CV complete assembly My pathy is only a 94, and I've only had it a year... could it be that this is just wearing out, but not necessarily all needing replaced now? I don't know a lot about front ends, and I know none of you can see it to know, but is all this really necessary for a post torsion bar crank alignment when the alignment was fine before I cranked them? And do I have any other options besides finding someone else who will align it without doing repairs?
  24. I got so frustrated about the rears that I haven't even tried the fronts. Should I get 6.5" for the front or can I stay with 5x7? I have rockford's too.
  25. So I bought some new speakers for my 94 pathy, and it's a good thing I did, cause they were shot! But I got the 5x7's and stared putting them in, only to find out the don't quite fit. The problem is, the lip around the speaker that you screw through to hold the speaker in is narrower on the new speakers, meaning the cone and supports are wider. The supports won't allow the speaker to go all the way, even though the holes on the new and old speakers do line up. I've thought about either cutting the four places the supports hit my sheet metal with tin snips, and I've thought about grinding away a bit at the hole, making the diameter bigger, as long as I leave the screw holes and enough around it to support the speaker. Has anyone else come across this problem or have any other, maybe simpler suggestions for me? Or does this sound like a good idea and it should work? I don't think I'll be able to work on them again until Sunday atleast. Thanks for the help guys!
