  1. 4wheelparts is overpriced on a lot of their stuff. When I was tire shopping same tires from them were going to cost about $500 more then we're I got them.

I noticed their prices were pretty far off on a lot of common stuff, but at the same time the convenience of all of it coming from one location is nice too

  2. Just bought a smittybilt XRC 9.500 yesterday, 350$ from 4wheel parts with 3 year all inclusive warranty, even if I crash the truck lol. I really wanted to try a badlands cause I've had great experiences with harbor freight stuff before but for something like a winch I was totally willing to go smittybilt which lists for the same price as the badlands 9,000 lb, so it pulls more for the same and I trust smittybilt over HF as a general rule

Where at you located at? I've been finding the same winch for $299 with free shipping (not sure if you got extra accessories or not causing a difference in price)

  3. A lot of the guys here run the Smittybilt winches. Fast spooling and great no questions asked warranty. I have the HF 12k used for a price you'd be stupid to pass up. It's slow and I have only used it to respool using the rear hitch. I'll build a bumper when I get the engine and transmission in order again.

Nissannut has builds of his on his web page

I decided on the XRC due to it's lighter weight, a MUCH better warranty, and the fact that all that is only $30 more than a 12k HF winch without the added expense of an extended warranty.

  4. Sorry for not responding, for some reason this was not showing up on the new content button. This forum does funny things on mobile.

With the 2" body lift I had to make it that high top to bottom to cover everything. If I had made it another inch or so it would have looked better and been right under the grill, but I didn't want the extra weight. I was mainly trying to cover the holes in the body.

I will get that info and pic for you asap.

Keep in mind that I haven't used it yet. The true test will come once I use it to pull myself out. I am sure it will be fine, but you never know.

If you managed to bend that bumper or break your clean welds then we've both got a problem because I'm going to be using 1/4" for the winch mount too. But unlike yours I have to drop my upper mounts down at about a 45° angle sue to me having a 3 inch body lift. I may remove some material from the body so I can use a sort of triangle shaped mount instead of only a 45° piece.

I go home from work at the end of the week so I'll hopefully have some free time before I get called back out.

Also thanks in advance for the pics! They'll help me a lot on my design.

  5. Anybody have tips for yanking the starter over the centerlink? mines stuck on it and im trying not to unbolt the pitman

If your pathfinder is an automatic try removing the cooler lines from where they're held up next to the oil pan, it gives you a little more wiggle room. If it's a manual transmission then it's a lot easier. Like others have said just keep trying it in different positions, it'll eventually come out.

  6. I plan on replacing my AC compressor at some point with a brand new one along with some other components due to a ticking noise in the compressor at idle and the fact that pag and mineral oil was mixed and started eating through the hoses (one already blew).

Are the compressors the same between the r1w and r134a systems besides the oils and refrigerant used?

Are the high and low side lines compatible besides the pressure ports?

I plan on doing a real conversion instead of half assing it like a PO did.

  7. I've never liked selling any of my vehicles, there's always that thought about the new owner taking care of it like you would.

I'm interested in some of the harnesses for my 87 pathfinder swapped to a manual transmission

  8. I'm not familiar with that issue but I'd still look into if it hasn't been done, it's always a good idea to keep your tank sealing and venting like it should be. Vapor leaks could be a fire hazard and obviously fuel prices are getting up there.

  9. Sounds like it could be a fuel issue. Either an extremely clogged filter or a weak pump. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check your pressure during prime and then again when it's running. I think fuel pressure should be somewhere around 46psi at idle. You want to hook it in after the filter to get a good reading.

Check and replace all your vac lines if they've never been done, I've found some really bad ones that looked perfect before removing them that we're the source of some pretty serious air leaks.

If it were a bad alternator it would still start and run but the battery would slowly drain due to lights and other electronics draining down.

  10. I've been considering modifying the steering setup with the calimini idler brace (only one ice found still in production) and doing the 2wd conversion. Should be more than strong to handle anything I ever throw at it and be able to run 33s full time.

Get a different brace. Calmini has hit or miss fitment issues. All the posts I've read report some sort of issue with their braces, especially with aftermarket idler arms.

  11. AC ones suck for ball joint angles. The Superlift/RC ones are the best. I had the AC ones and had to buy the Superlift ones because the truck was eating ball joints every 6 months.

Use the superlift ones, SAS the truck, or leave it stock. Those are the 3 options IMO.

Can't really get any simpler than that. The geometry of our rigs IFS limits us quite a bit. I'm sure there's a way to really improve it but by that point it would be easier to SAS it on either coils or leafs.

All in all though I've found the stock suspension setup to be more than capable of handling everything I've thrown at it. The weak link is the dog bone steering set up.

  12.

I was in between those too, I have had no issues with these and they have performed great on and off road, they are quiet and comfortable. I would definitely suggest them for my overlander use they seem to be perfect for my application.

How do they do in sand and mud? Not thick sticky mud more watered down like near a flooded fire ditch.

  13. Ordered my rear shocks finally, Rancho RS5112 for the rear. Should be here Wednesday along with my exhaust manifold for my frontier that decided to finally completely split away into 2 pieces 3 days before I have work out of state. Luckily I get to drive the company vehicle and it's only 3 hours away in Myrtle Beach.

  14. iirc you want to get the 3.8L Taurus (dual speed) fan, which is what I run in mine. have had it in there for a very long time and other than a burned out controller, I've had no issues with it.

That's correct, I forgot to mention that. A brand new fan on high drops my idle about 100rpm or so but it'll blow leaves off from around the wiper blades. I also have a non modified 110amp quest alternator and 1000cca battery so it doesn't pull too big of a load so if you have a weak alternator be careful. I was never able to get a true answer of exactly how much it really pulls on start up so I went overkill on my electrical for it.

  15. I think I'm going to go with the smittybuilt seeing as they offer a much better warranty than Harbor Frieght would and I don't have to pay an additional $40-$80 for only a 2 year warranty. Not to mention it's lighter than the 12k, isn't as amp hungry, and spools a little faster.

Now I just need to find out what work is doing this week, get some cardboard and start mocking things up.

  16. Citron, how much steel did you get to do your bumper? Just looking for a ball park figure, tomorrow I'm going to Sears to get some fridge boxes so I have big pieces of cardboard to work with.

Also could you take a pic for me of how your bumper mounts to the frame under the front onto the frame rails?
