  1. I'm pretty sure 6.5 is a little narrow for 265's... Although it'll probably work, as the steel chilkoot wheels are also 6.5 wide. Tire rack shows the rim width range for 265/70r15's to be 7 to 9 inches. Go figure.... I think the backspacing is probably more important, and I bet someone here will know what it is for the LE wheels.
  2. Those look to be in really nice shape But from past experience, shipping fairly heavy/bulky things like wheels from California up to BC can be heinously expensive. I might just keep my eyes open in the local classifieds.
  3. Thanks for the replies! Now I'm just wondering... You both say you had a little bit of rubbing at full lock, with 31's anyway... Do you know which steering racks you have? From what I gather, the SE racks don't turn quite as sharply, for the bigger stock tires... I'm not even 100% sure on mine. I have the bigger tires from the factory, 4.636 gears, and LSD, but I could swear there was a little more than 3 turns lock to lock when I checked. I'll have to check again. If the Chilkoot is a dealer installed package, could it possibly have the factory XE steering rack? And as far as the speedo math... The last time I looked with a gps, I see to remember it running about 5 or maybe 6 percent fast. Doesn't bother me much around town, but cruising down the highway it makes for a pretty big difference. It could be 3 or 4 percent, but I seem to recall the speedo saying 105 or 106 km/h while my true speed was 100. Sounds like I should maybe go for a 4" backspace rather than 3.75" so the tires stay within the flares.
  4. Mine are glass, and even with premium bulbs I feel like I'm literally driving blind at night. And that's when it isn't raining. I tend to keep my fogs on whenever my low beams are on, so I can at least see close to me. I'll probably start looking into some offroad lights to remedy that though
  5. I don't like starting new threads about things that have already been asked countless times, but I've searched through tons of threads about this and I have a pretty good idea now, but I still have a few specific questions to work out. According to the sticker in the glovebox, my Pathfinder came with 265/70r15 tires. At some point, one of the PO's downsized to 235/75r15 tires. I'd like to get back up to a bigger size, and I've been debating between the original size and 31's. She is also riding on the god-awful factory steel wheels that are getting rusty, and I've pretty well decided on some 15x8 black steel wheels (I also looked for some SE alloys but they are hard to find and the ones I've found have been in rough shape). Unfortunately my Pathfinder doesn't have the rear spare tire carrier, so what I really want to know definitively is if a 15x8 wheel (regardless of tire) will even fit underneath the back of the truck. And if it will, will a 265/70r15 tire fit? How about a 31x10.5r15? I'm really not interested in going to the trouble of finding a new spot for the tire. Does anyone know definitively if a 31 will fit under the rear or not? Now that that is out of the way, I'm trying to decide between a 3.75" backspace vs a 4" backspace. From what I gather, with either of the tire sizes I'm considering, 3.75 will make the tires stick out slightly past the fender flares, whereas 4 may be pretty well flush with the flares. I'd rather they not stick out, but does the 3.75 backspacing significantly reduce the chance of rubbing at full lock? I'd rather have them stick out than rub severely. On a side note, the speedo currently reads a bit fast on the current tires. I've done the math, and the difference from the correct speed is greater than the difference between current tires and factory tires, so I assume that means it will still read fast with 265/70r15's... Would it be more accurate with the 31's? Thanks for the clarification
  6. I spent a few hours in the parts yard, but all I ended up doing was swapping out the rubbery transfer case shifter knob for a nice leather wrapped one from an LE.
  7. Thanks for the reply. That is the exact gauge cluster I have in my pathfinder. I've just assumed that the little circular indent just to the left of the E is the low fuel light, and when I looked online, it seemed to back that up. The 3 gallon reserve is interesting, because on my last tank of gas I put in a hair over 73 litres, so there was roughly 7 litres (1.85 gallons) left in the tank. The fuel light didn't come on at all. Things like that make me really think the light might be burnt out, but then it also seems like my gas gauge is really wonky. If I fill up right when it first gets to E, I still have almost a quarter of a tank left. My original plan was to just go for it and purposely run out of fuel to confirm for sure that the light wasn't working, but then I read that the fuel pump in r50 Pathfinders is submerged in fuel for cooling, and running low on gas could overheat the pump (?), which made me bail on that plan. When the light comes on (or any other light on the dash for that matter) is it supposed to chime? I've never heard a chime for anything on my Pathfinder, and I also don't think I've ever seen a seatbelt light or warning... Is that normal, or do I have a blown fuse or something?
  8. Thanks. I'll try to get things sorted out, when I have time this weekend. Hopefully I won't end up with more questions.
  9. Alright... This is what I found: And while I'm here, does anyone know how to get this to stop oozing?
  10. So looking under the hood, there does seem to maybe be a little bit of seepage. I'll try to take a few pictures today. Is there an easy way to post pictures on this forum?
  11. 1999, sitting at 255,6xx km (so just under 160k miles)... and on the original clutch
  12. I know this is an older thread, but I felt it would be silly to make a new one. Does anyone know definitively whether the lifetime seatbelt warranty also applies to Canadian vehicles? I know it is valid in the states, but I was wondering about up here in Canada. And it seems the seatbelt problems are common... I thought I was the only one with lazy seatbelts
  13. So I've searched about the low fuel light, and I've found that each pathfinder seems to be a bit different when it comes to where the light comes on, but I just wanted to check to be sure that pre-facelift pathy's have a low fuel light. In three and a half years, i've never had the light come on (there is a little dot near the E, that I assume is the low fuel light). The most I've put into the tank was 73 liters, and at that point that gauge was well past E, but still no light. I'm wondering if there is a way to tell if the bulb is burnt out, or if I just have to run the thing till I am out of gas If the bulb is burnt out, is it replaceable? Is there a fuse that might be responsible?
  14. Hi all, My pathfinder has had an odd issue as long as I can remember (at least 2 years). I'm really hoping you guys can help me figure out what the cause is. I used the search, and I didn't find anything with the same issue. Other smells, but not the same issue. So basically, this never pops up in normal driving, but when I go on a long highway trip, after an hour or two, there seems to be a very unpleasant smell that seeps into the cabin. It sort of smells a bit like oil burning, but at each oil change, the oil level has never really dropped at all. I believe the smell comes through the a/c vents in the dash, and it occurs whether the fan is on or not (not really relevant but the A/C does not work so I don't have the fan on often in the summer). I have just taken to cracking the window, which provides enough airflow that I don't smell anything, but I'd really like to figure out what is causing this. It seems to occur more strongly and come on more quickly when I drive at higher speeds on the highway (it's geared pretty low, so anything over 3000 or maybe 3200 on the highway, or around 110 km/h and above, brings on the smell after a while). The temperature gauge is always rock steady a hair below half on the dial. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks
  15. Hi there guys, I've owned my Pathfinder for three and a half years now, but there a few little nagging things I'd finally like to sort out, so I figured this would be a great resource. Her name is Penny, and she's a 1999 (pre-facelift) Chilkoot model. 5 speed. Love her to pieces but she has her quirks. I guess I put up with them because she drives just like a car, and gets reasonable mileage for what it is (my longterm average is 18 US mpg)... I'm in university, so anything less would be deadly to my wallet... So that's my story... I look forward to hearing from everyone else
