  1. This is mainly a question for the Australian members - my 2005 VG 33 R50 pathy needs a new fuel pump. There are none available in Fiji. Have been online but its hard to discern whats good and whats not on Ebay. Can any of you give me any info on where to buy a quality fuel pump in Australia ? Im asking the Aussies because we are close geographically. Cheers.
  2. to cap this post, turned out my coolant was pretty shot and although you couldn't tell, the radiator was quite blocked ! ordering a new rad and will change coolant and thermostat and should be all good !
  3. i agree slartibartfast, its not overheating so i don't think the thermostat is to blame, won't hurt to change it though. At this stage I'm going to flush and clean the system and radiator, change the thermostat, refill and run and see what happens. i was going to go through the entire truck soon, new suspension with 2 inch lift, new interior carpets etc, etc . I might as well start with the engine bay and get it all running sweetly there before i tackle the rest of it.
  4. I had a similar problem with my R50 - dash light telling me a door was not closed stayed on, and my interior light stayed on. It turned out to be the passenger side front door rubber switch that was faulty. I had removed them one by one until i found the faulty one. Its still off the truck and i haven't replaced it and all works fine. This however shouldn't drain a good battery in a day but check all five of those switches (including rear hatch) first.
  5. @ colinnwn - rad is full when cool
  6. just had a look, water in Rad isn't great looking, seems discoloured and not in a nice "coolant" way. Will also check radiator cap. Judging by the replies, i assume the boiling over flow tank is not normal. This is my favourite vehicle by far and it drives a 500km round trip along the coast and mountains on some twisty demanding roads three times a week, so for a Christmas present i think i'll just change out rad cap/ thermostat / radiator. Just did all wheel bearings and an oil change yesterday.
  7. Hi all, 2005 R50 - pretty stock apart from 16x8 rims. Getting out of the car last couple of weeks i can hear a boiling noise under the hood, its the overflow tank and i can see it boiling quite violently. The temp gauge always reads normal, the car is hot under the hood but then again, its a hot climate here. Is this normal ? haven't changed the coolant for years probably. i will remove the thermostat and run the engine without it, we've done 265,000km so maybe its time to change thermostat and radiator. Not so easy to swap out parts over here in Fiji as they are not available off the shelf - i have to import them. Any thoughts would be appreciated !
  8. https://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/16725174010/in/set-72157636126837516 Needed to check my ball joint and couldn't find the jack !
  9. Great product Liftmaker ! I am putting together a complete list of parts that i need for my pathfinder out here in Fiji - shocks, struts, springs etc, and these spacers look to be a great solution for me for a 2 inch lift. One question : can i use them if i intend to install air lift 1000 bags in the rear coils ? - i think i can but thought i would check.
  10. Did you mask the whole car up to plasti-dip it ? or did you strip out all the lights etc to do it ? It looks great by the way. Is that black or dark grey ?
  11. Thanks Guys, Its an auto - very strange behaviour, given its mileage (and none of it on smooth roads) something must be worn out. Its not the weather, car is in Fiji !! Having the trans fluid looked at over the weekend, maybe that will show something.
  12. Hi all, My 2003 R50 with 330,000 kms on the clock will not engage reverse when cold. Sometimes i have time to go and make a coffee waiting for it to engage ! time varies between 3 mins and 11 mins to engage. Not ideal as i sometimes forget when i park it nose in on my driveway and have to wait an eternity to back it out. If i park it forward facing and can head out straight away, then it will hold second gear for quite a while and then change up eventually. As long as the car is used all day and warm, then the transmission behaves normally. Any ideas on what could be causing this ! would a trans flush help ?
  13. DESCRIPTION OF SUNROOF REPAIR: Removed drivers side door rubber trim to reveal headlining edge. Removed sunvisor, removed sunvisor clip. Pulled down headlining edge along door side (not too much otherwise it will stress and crease) Sunroof drain spigot revealed with drain pipe disconnected and nowhere in sight. Drain pipe had fallen back into metal bulk head recess hole opposite, took some finger wiggling to get it back out. Reconnected the drain pipe to the sunroof drain spigot and used a cable tie so it wouldn't fall off again. Ditto the other side except you have to remove the passenger ceiling handle which can be interesting. pics of repair are self explanatory : https://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/sets/72157645603658055/
  14. Fixed it ! both drain hoses had come off the spigots attached to the sunroof. Had to drop corners of headlining both sides but didnt have to remove it totally. Will try and post pics of repair soon.
  15. removing headliner not pleasant ! will look at it later and see what it entails. Will try and take pics of repair as we go along.
  16. Just for the record , does anyone know if the sunroof in the closed position should let in any water ? Perhaps my outer sunroof seal is worn as well as having a damaged drain.
  17. Just came back from my mechanics where we tried to sort out my leaking sunroof. Drivers side carpet wet all the time (rains a lot here). Snaked a cable down the drain and it went a long way before stopping. Noticed water welling up when i pulled it back so there was water stuck in there. Removed the interior plastic trim on the sidewall of the windscreen and also removed the plastic shroud in the wheel well. We could not find where the cable i pushed through would come out and couldn't find any drain hole in there. We also removed the wiper assy cover to have a look in there but couldn't see anything. I then poured a bit of water down the sunroof drain and that water instantly came out high up on the inside of the windscreen pillar inside the car, dribbled down the rubber and went into the wheel well. I now know how its happening but dont know why. The only thing we could ascertain is that the drain hose in the pillar must have become disconnected from the actual drain plugs in the sunroof. Any ideas on this and how to effect a repair. Tired of damp carpet ! Thanks - Rikki
  18. Just checking on Amazon and read a customer review of Amazon selling Moog tie rods. Cutomer was very unhappy at amazon selling a Korean derivative and says it is inferior. Cant take the risk of flying it all the way here and its second rate product. Where do you guys buy your Moog products from ?
  19. Yes, alkorahil - I just checked. Will contact him as i've got someone in the US he could ship to and they could send it on to me.
  20. Rayy, SilverPath is spot on . I have just removed my driver's side doorpanel this weekend as the guy who tinted my windows somehow left a coin between the doorpanel skins and the noise drove me crazy driving it home. Only thing to add is that if you dont have a "prong" then after removing the screws in the trim in the door handle and removing the window winding mechanism, start at the bottom and very firmly pull on the door panel and it will start to pop out. Being firm means the plastic rivets will "POP" out as opposed to tearing the door panel if you do it too slowly. Work your way upwards from one side to the other until it is free and then it lifts up and away from the window frame. Make sure the plastic rivets are aligned when putting back as there is about 1/2cm of space side to side in their locating holes.
  21. Fleury's, Thanks for the reply - as im so far away from being able to check physically any parts , its great to get some feedback. I did trawl the forum last night and had decided that Moog was probably the way to go, even though the Beck Arnley product "looks" better online. I have to order it all at the same time and get it packaged and sent in one box to get the best shipping rates. I saw a guy called Rob on the forum who has supplied parts to forum members but not sure about ease of shipping to me.
  22. Hi All, I have a 2005 (built March 2005 ) R50 out in the South Pacific with 220,000km on the clock (we also have a black 2003 with 360,000km ) I've got the dreaded "clunk" in the front suspension. Have narrowed it down to the right front ball joint. I cant get any parts out here for these R50's anymore so we have to import them. I usually am restricted to Amazon as the shipping rates are favourable and so far reliable delivery. I want to replace both ball joints / sway bar links / tie rod inner and outer ends. Any ideas on whats the best brand between Beck Arnley / Moog / AC Delco ? All look good online ! Cheers - Fijipathy
  23. Hi Everyone, Pathfinder R50 fanatics in Fiji in the South Pacific saying hi. Bought our first one new out of the showroom in 2002 (silver SE). Have bought two more, a black 2003 LE and we just acquired the last one ever sold in Fiji and registered in 2006 - a gold LE. No real mods yet. The gold one is LPG converted and runs on both Fuel and LPG - It was owned by the gas company here and was done beautifully. The LPG tank was made to look like a spare tyre - will post pics of that as soon as i can (haven't picked up car yet). The rego is GASMAN but sadly I don’t get the rego with the car. We collect pathy's like M&M's in all the colours. We use them for daily drivers, towing boats, offroading. The black one has done 317,000 kms (almost none of it on smooth roads) and still drives and looks great. Love the forum and looking forward to sharing our experiences of owning them for over ten years. There is a mint brown SE (see pic) that we are chasing as well if we can persuade the owner to let it go………………….. silver pathy http://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/10058336485/ black pathy http://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/10058345425/ Gold pathy http://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/10058297354/ Brown pathy http://www.flickr.com/photos/100136683@N03/10058917065/
