  1. Hey all, Because I figured it'd be cheaper, I think I'm going to go ahead and paint my door and fender. The previous owner got the door and fender taken off by a tree and he replaced it with another door, and had it spray painted, the completely wrong color. It looks awful, and I'm tired of looking at it. I thought about replacing the door and fender with a matching color one, but it seems that it could be cheaper to paint it myself (with help). What's the best way to make sure I get the correct paint? I heard a friend mention the VIN #... any truth to this? And then where could I order it from, possibly? For reference, I've got the deep dark green paint on my 93 pathfinder. I think it's the forest green color IIRC.
  2. Nah, I meant where the floods on the bumper should be (instead you have your BG supports there). My floods are one single piece with the turn signals. Push comes to shove, I'll just fab up some plates for the bumper mounts. Not extremely worried about it, but I'm just curious as to why it wasn't already set up for BG mounting? If anything I'll pop the bumper off, measure everything up, drill two mounting holes (one for each side) and have the plates fitted up and bolt it all together. Birthday is coming up and I'm already about to order some Hella 500FF's to mount to the BG once it's all set up.
  3. I see a major difference with that bumper from mine. The flood light holes appear to be off-line of the turning signals, where as on mine the turn signal and flood light are all "one piece". The "horns" on each side have no holes in them for mounting. My old man suggested rigging up some angle iron to make it work (which would be like the plates that Kyle mentioned). I've got the thing sitting at home so when I get some free time in a couple weekends I'll play around with it. Plus I'll have access to my summer jobs' manufacturing stuff.. so I'll have all the fabrication equipment at my disposal!
  4. You are making sense, I just didn't see them. If I get bored tomorrow or Thursday Ill take a couple pics to show what I see.
  5. For reference, this is the exact one I got. This is the craigslist post. Link could go dead any time, FYI. http://asheville.craigslist.org/pts/3757573717.html
  6. Hey all, I purchased a (factory?) brush guard last week and was installing it this past weekend, and ran into a problem. The bottom mounts to the frame just fine, but upon popping out the fog lights on the bumper and looking inside, I saw no place for the bumper mounts to mount up to. Is the solution to just drill holes and mount it up? Or am I missing something. I have a 93 Pathfinder SE, but the front bumper came off a 93 XE (if that makes ANY sort of difference). I left it at home and plan on working on it when I return home at the end of the week. FYI, it came off a 91 Pathfinder with no special fabricated mounts.
  7. Agreed with Nunya. Found one that had an interior rack and IMO it looks stupid. Too much space taken up, etc. The rack on the back is nice for many things. I've got a jerry can that I'll be installing on it this summer, and if the $$ comes through, maybe I'll have a HAM radio antenna mounted to it as well.
  8. Mine strangely did this due to the air filter being dirty, full of dust, etc. Ran way too rich when idling and would die. I'm glad it was an easy fix but definitely not what I expected! Cleaning the MAF takes all of 10 mins too.
  9. ....This is my personal choice... Military edition has a turret mount too! http://www.terradyneinc.com/
  10. Trogdor, Yeah it's a pain getting into my girlfriends driveway when backing in at night, but that's what I use my brake light for!
  11. Went fishing and digging in the fender walls for that socket. Appears to me that someone may have cut and rewired the rear brake lights because the red wire that's currently plugged in with the bundle of other wires attached to the brake light socket is cut. NC Inspection doesn't require reverse lights to be working IIRC, so I'm not too concerned about it. I typically back into my parking spots to begin with.
  12. I was looking for some parts for the Pathfinder on eBay and ran across this... Anyone running one of these in their vehicle successfully? Or any other chips? I'd love to see 3-5 MPG increase if that's possible. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PERFORMANCE-AND-FUEL-ECONOMY-CHIP-FOR-NISSAN-GAIN-MPG-/190810947581?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1993%7CMake%3ANissan%7CModel%3APathfinder&hash=item2c6d37fffd&vxp=mtr
  13. Yep, that's the plan! 2 birds with one stone!
  14. Yeah, I should have been more suspicious at O'Reilly when I went to get all the fluids a few months ago. He didn't seem to have much of a clue to begin with.. Just ordered the Pennzoil Synchromesh. Was going to cost $75 on amazon for 6 quarts, but I went to advance auto and found that they had a quart priced at $8-9. Much cheaper than what amazon said. I also entered 2 promo codes which reduced it to a total of $35 for the 6 quarts plus a hand pump. $15 for tax and shipping made it a lot less overall than redline. Once the fluid comes in, I'll probably spend an afternoon replacing the fluid and putting in the new console.
  15. Reviewed the Material Test Sheet, and it said "Meets all GL standard............... ...GL-5,.... Didn't see anything for GL-4. Might as well keep searching the internet for options. Fluid will be changed Saturday!
  16. For reference, this is what's currently in there. Did not overfill it (didn't hear about the TSB until afterwards). If this is considered "okay" then I might just buy another bottle and fill from the top, which would save a lot of $$. Let me know. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_synthetic-sae-75w-90-transmission-and-differential-lube-(32-oz-)-lucas-oil-products_7070037-p
  17. Hey all, Looking for transmission gear oil. I put in some new stuff a few months ago, but was told by another member that the fluid I put in may not be GL-4 fluid. I know Redline is the top choice, but I'd need to buy 6 quarts of it to completely overfill (and I've have some extra leftover) the trans, and that's $100 that I really can't spend this minute. Are there any other choices? I've googled on the shopping tab and found redline products but not much else, if anything. Everything else didn't specify GL-4. Links would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Excellent, thanks for the input thus far. B, is weatherstripping that hard to install? What am I missing? And yes, for some reason I have no reverse lights. A couple weeks ago, a lady told me that. Bulbs are easy to do, so I looked and saw nothing in the reverse light section of the tailight. Going to download the FSM at some point soon, thanks! Also, the engine bay is really messy due to the snow/salt that has gotten in since the skid plate fell off when I was playing in 12" deep snow. Just want to clean it off, I've tried with the garden hose to not much avail, but I figured pressure washing it may help. The console I bought was from a member on here and he informed me of what all is needed to swap.
  19. Hey all, I've got a longer than expected spring break ahead, so I'm going to tackle some tasks that need to be done on my Pathfinder. I'm starting this post so that I don't have to litter the forums with multiple posts if I have issues. It just works out in a cleaner manner. Found a Nissan Salvage Yard not too far from the house so I'm extremely excited to pick it apart. Here's the to-do list: 1. Install new skid plate (shouldn't be an issue) 2. Oil/Filter change (not a problem) 3. Maxima Alternator Swap: (From what I can tell, this just requires me to get one, test it, replace the pulley on it with the pathfinder pulley, and then bolt it on... What year of Maximas should I look at? I'm going for the 90amp) 4. Gates belts on power steering, AC, and alt. (no problem!) 5. Replace rear weatherstripping (not an issue) 6. Fix Door handle (I need to pop the panel off and fix the interior driver side handle, as I have to pull multiple times for it to open.. I may not fix it due to other reasons listed below). 7. Clean headlight housing lenses (Is it as easy as just popping the clips and wiping down the lenses?) 8. Aim Headlights (did a forum post on it weeks ago so I shouldn't have many issues). 9. Rotate tires (Goodyear does that for free!) 10. Repair reverse lights (this is the biggest issue... There are no bulbs/sockets in place of where the reverse lights are. I don't see the sockets or wiring anywhere in fender area.. Do I need to run wiring to sockets, etc? Biggest issue that I may not be able to do alone). 11. Console switch (changing from the WD21 to R50 console, shouldn't be too labor intensive). 12. Trans Fluid overfill (I'm replacing the current fluid with Redline MT-90. Going to fill from the top by the shifter... may need help and guidance with this) 13. Paint rear bumper (easy) 14. Pressure wash engine bay (never have done it, is it okay to do so?) 15. Clean cargo pad 16. Find matching color driver door and fender at JY and install on vehicle (never have done it before, what kind of tools should I need?) That's about it. Lots to do, but most should be easy. If you have any suggestions on streamlining the process at all, or have any good insight, let me know. I'll post here if I need some help. Thanks!
  20. Sister just got the car a day ago or so, it looks great from the pictures. I'll be home next weekend to drive it, but according to my dad it seems to run really well, has new tires, battery, etc. Basically should be tuned up and ready to go. I just might have to steal it and leave my Pathy at home for a few weeks.
  21. I run the regular size Goodyear Wrangler Radials. Cost me about $88 per tire due to a discount sale, but they typically run around $99 p/t. Excellent tires, road noise isn't bad, I do go off road for some light duty 4x4 stuff and it did very well (never got stuck) plus put it in 2WD and still didn't get stuck in the mudholes. I live up in the mountains and often go out to measure snow for the Weather Service, and during the snowfall that hit us during Hurricane Sandy, I drove just fine through 1 foot of snow on untreated roads. If you're more into offroading, get a better tire, but this one suits me well for the majority of highway driving plus a little offroading and storm hunting.
  22. Excellent, Ill ask our mechanic if he has updated the guides. Wont worry about it until we hear some chattering.
  23. Well, thankfully the guy has had it serviced by someone we really trust. I've always had a little fear of automatics ever since I learned to drive a stickshift. Never realized how much more intricate an automatic is... My dad or I will probably go about changing her fluids if our mechanic hasn't touched them in the 2 years he's serviced it. We'll keep the NGK's in there as well, that's what I currently use in my Pathfinder and it seems they are the chosen brand for Nissans. My sister has a car maintenance nazi in her brother (me) so she knows she can get help from me. I'll keep an eye out on some other sites about transmission issues, but she'll be making short trips to school or work with this until she goes to college, so I'm not too worried about the trans grenading. Thanks for your help thus far, if anyone else has something to report, do so!

    1998 Maxima

Hey, My sister is getting a 98 Nissan Maxima for her first car. I've been fond of Nissan products since I got my Pathfinder, but I was wanting to know if there are any issues I should be aware of so that she's in good shape with this car. It has 106,000 miles, and has been serviced by our good friend/mechanic for two years (hence why we feel pretty good about getting it for her). My brother tells me it's a clean car and in good shape, but are there any common issues as time goes along that we should be aware of? I believe it is an automatic but it's not the top tier level of Maximas. Wish I could have caught this before she did, my Pathfinder is killing me with the recent gas spike!
