  1. I feel so stupid. The problem was the battery was dead. I pushed my 08 Pathfinder out of the shop this morning and jumped it off with my 95 Pathfinder. It started right up with no warning lights showing. I drove it about ten miles to build the battery back up and got it back home killed it and it started right back up and everything is working. I have the battery on charge right now. The electrical stuff on these newer vehicles scare me b/c there is so much off it that can go wrong. I have never had any issues with the battery before and wasn't trying to reset the ecu very long. I just knew I had messed something up. I had no idea the battery was dead. Thanks, brc
  2. I have a 2008 Nissan 2wd Pathfinder SE. This is what happened. I have been posting in this forum (you can see my post) about how the service engine soon light came on and it was a code P0455 (which is an fuel evaporation leak problem). I replaced the old gas cap with a new one and the service engine soon light came back on. Well I was searching through the net and came across a topic forum like this from the Nico fourms (which I am also a member). The topic was about how you could reset the service engine soon light on the R50 and R51 Pathfinders ecu. It gave instructions such as 1) turning the engine to start waiting three seconds 2) then depressing the accelerator five times within five seconds 3) waiting seven seconds then holding down the accelerator ten seconds until the check engine light starts blinking. There are several more steps but I left the papers out in the shop. I preformed the steps several times b/c my timing (waiting the right amount of seconds performing each step was off). Well I finally got it until the check engine light was blinking, but I must have messed up the timing on the next steps b/c I started the truck up and the check engine soon light was still on. I kept repeating the steps and couldn't get the timing of the steps right. I went to crank the truck up and it would not start. It sounded like the starter was just clicking. I did not know what happened so I tried to repeat the process again. While preforming step 2 where you press the accelerator 5 times I accidently hit the brake. Now the truck will not start, the radio acts like it is trying to eject a cd and will not play, the battery light is on , and the brake light is on. I unhooked the negative battery cable for a while. Put the cable back on and it still does the same thing. I have the battery cable unhooked and while try and put it back on late tomorrow, but I have know idea if the truck will go back to normal. The only thing I can think of is I repeated the steps so many times trying to get the check engine soon light to reset in the ecu that I must have performed other procedures or just really messed my truck up bad. This is my families way of going and I really messed this one up. Does anybody know how I can fix this mess. I can't even crank it to take it to the Nissan dealership. Any help whatsoever would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, brc
  3. Thanks for the info. I will check it all out today. Had bad weather come through yesterday and didn't get a chance to do anything. Thanks for posting the exact pages in the fsm. I haven't changed spark plugs. Thanks again, brc
  4. Yesterday I drove the Pathfinder about seven miles up the road and the service engine soon light came on again. I came back home hooked up the scanner and it came back same code P0455. Drove it all day the day before with the new gas cap and no engine light. Drove it just a few miles the second day and the light came on. I bought the new cap from Autozone. I bought it specifically for the vehicle it wasn't on I bought off the rack. Should I try a new cap from my local Nissan dealer? I really have not had the amount of time to correctly follow all lines underneath the Pathfinder and in the engine bay. I just quickly looked under the truck and in the engine bay. What specific lines should I look for under the truck and in the engine? What other steps should I take? Think it could still be the gas cap? Thanks, brc
  5. I replaced the gas cap with a new one, but I didn't get one from the Nissan dealer. I drove it all around town yesterday in all the heavy holiday traffic. The light did not come back on. I am going to drive it around a little more today. If the light does not come back on today I will feel more comfortable taking it on long distance trips. Thanks for the reply, brc
  6. Thanks for the reply. I erased the code with the ob2 scanner. Drove it around all day one day. I went to put it up in the garage and soon as I started it up the service engine soon light came back on. I cleaned the gasket that goes around the gas cap. I still haven't had a chance with the holidays and such to look underneath or in the engine compartment. I don't see any thing on the garage concrete floor that is leaking where it sits. Think a new gas cap and erasing the code and see if it comes back on would be a good idea? When it comes to getting a new gas cap does it have to be from a Nissan dealer or will one at a local parts store work? Thanks for the advice and information. brc
  7. The service engine soon light came on yesterday. First time this is ever happened. Hooked my ob2 scanner up and code came back P0455. I read where this can be as simple as a loose gas cap to a leaky vent valve. People were saying this is a very common code for pathfinders. Is there any steps I can take to narrow down the problem? Thanks, brc
  8. Thanks for the reply. I found a possible solution after searching the net for a while. RadioShack part# 272-1092 (bulb #7219) allows you to make up a new bulb using the screw in part of the original illumination bulbs. brc
  9. I have a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder LE. The bulbs that light up the heater and a/c unit when the headlights are turned on went out. I have the auto unit with the buttons you push. I need to know where I could find these micro bulbs. I didn't even know they where out until I drove my pathy at night a few days ago. It really makes a difference when you cannot see how to adjust your heater or a/c. Would these bulbs be the same kind of bulbs that light up the instrument cluster? Can you buy these bulbs at a local parts store such as autozone or would it be a dealer item? Can they be found online b/c I haven't come across them in any of my searches? Thanks, brc
  10. 1997 was the last year they made the Hardbody (D21) truck. The 1997 truck is the same as the 94-95 Pathfinders except it comes with a driver's side airbag. Pathfinders changed in 1996 like you said, but in 1998 the Hardbody truck became the Frontier. Thanks for the reply. brc
  11. I think I found the answer searching the net. It is a 8mm x 1.25.
  12. My 1994 Nissan Pathfinder LE has four wheel disk brake pads. I also have a 1997 D21 (Hardbody) four wheel drive with rear brake shoes. My question is about the brake shoes on the 4x4 Hardbody. I was wondering what size bolts does it take to get the rear hub off on the Nissan Pathfinder/D21 4x4. The rear hubs have two threaded holes in which you place a certain size bolt to remove the hub. I just need to know what size bolt to use. It seems I have forgotten . Thanks, brc
  13. I have put new sway bar bushings on and brand new tires a few months ago. I have checked everything else out and everything looks ok. I have worked on vehicles myself for many years. My Pathfinder only has 80,000 original miles on it. When I get the time and the money I want to replace both inner and outer tie rod ends on both sides then have it aligned.
  14. I did forget to mention one thing. On the driver side front the plastic inner fender portion is missing. It was like that when I bought the Pathfinder. A few days prior to the caliper freezing up I filled up the windshield wiper plastic tank under the hood that sets on the driver side. When I bought the truck it had a small leak in it and I fixed it. When I went to pick my parents and nephews up after my Dad called me and said the caliper had froze up. I looked under the Pathfinder and I thought it was leaking break fluid really bad. When I went back to work on the Pathfinder it was water leaking not brake fluid. The water was coming from the windshield water tank. The crack started leaking again. I don't know if water had been leaking on the caliper with the inner fender gone or not. If it was could that have made the caliper lock up?
  15. Thanks everyone for the replies. I knew the answer would be to get a new one. Especially on a vehicle that is twenty years old no matter how good of shape it is in. I just didn't know if this was a common problem on the Pathfinders. Thanks again, brc
  16. My 94 Pathfinder LE has given me fits for the past two months. You can tell that from my many post on here lately. Everything has been fixed and still working. Last Thursday something totally out of the blue happened. My Dad and Mom took my Pathfinder to take my two nephews out to eat. I didn't even know they were gone in it. I was super busy and I get a phone call from my Dad saying I had to come pick them up. He said the front brake caliper must have froze up b/c they started smelling something (a brake pad smell) and the driver's side front wheel rotor was glowing red. I went back to work on my Pathfinder. I got to the caliper and took it off and I got the two pistons to work fine. The seals looked good and no brake fluid was leaking from the caliper. I sprayed the caliper and pistons with wd-40. Got it home and the next day I drove it for several miles and nothing happened. The closer I got it home the more I stomped on the brakes and the caliper did not lock up. I have been driving it around for the last couple of days testing the brakes pretty hard and it has not froze up again. So, should I trust the caliper or buy a new one? brc
  17. I have just about given up on this project. I was putting things together a few hours ago and I said what the heck I will try a little harder. The chime assembly looks brand new. You have a top square piece and a bottom one. I took the bottom piece a part and there is something like a coil in the middle and on each side is two small metal pieces held together with two small pieces of rubber on each end. I assume this part makes the dinging noise. Well the hooks that hold the metal pieces attach to were a little rusted on one side so I sanded the rust off. I took the plastic cap of the top square and it is just a circuit board with the wires attached. The whole thing looked new. The Pathfinder has 80,000 original miles on it. I took a test light to the plug that fits into the chime and I could not get the test light to light up. There are two wires to the plug. A green one with grey dots and a brown one with either a white or yellow strip, but they go into that massive set of wires that are wrapped up. So, I don't know if the chime is getting power, if the chime is broke, or if that relay has anything to do with it. At this point I really don't care I tried my best. I just like for things to work. But dinging is not work all of this. Lucky, Lucky working at a Nissan Dealership. I did look the chime up online at the genuine Nissan parts store. Your right certain years chime assemblies go to certain Pathfinders. I read where the one I would be looking for Nissan doesn't make anymore. Maybe one day I can find some of this stuff on ebay. Thanks brc
  18. I found some of the relays on ebay going by the part#. They show up close pics and the relays are identical to mine. Every one of the ebay sites state it is a standard Nissan antitheft relay and they were a little on the expensive side. My next move is to find a new chime ("dinger").
  19. No don't go tearing your rig up. Mine has a "diner" also. It is below the seat belt diode behind the kick panel on the driver's side. That is what I thought was wrong with it at first. But I took one that I know "used" to work out of my Dad's old 86 1/2 (first hardbodys made) and it looked just like the one in my pathfinder and it plugged right in. But it did not "ding". But I was at advance auto parts getting an a/c relay for my Pathfinder a few weeks ago and I asked the parts guy if they sold the "dinger". He looked it up and said no it was probably a dealer part. But his computer dis say there were differences between the chimes. He said some were made for Pathfinders that had alarms and different ones made for those that didn't have alarms. When I was going through the Pathfinders at the salvage yard I was going to get the chime, but either someone had already got them or the others were exposed to water and were all rusted. How do you test the relay? I may not even have the right relay. But looking at the wiring diagram in the fsm I am pretty sure I have the right one. After the salvage yard visit I looked at the 95 (mine is a 94) diagram and it show it on that diagram as well. The warning beep for the key and headlights work in my 97 Nissan hardbody 4x4. But it doesn't even have the chime part. Something else makes it beep. The relay may not even be the problem. It just may be a bad "dinger.
  20. Thanks, for the reply. Where did you find that price for that relay. I will also give you an update on what I have done since my last post. I went to my local Nissan Dealer. Parts guy found it only when I gave him the part #. He said he did not have one (well I knew that), but he could not show me a picture of the relay either. Next, I went to the local salvage yard (which is a pretty big one in this area). The guy took me to four Nissan Pathfinders ranging in date from 93-95. Not a one had a place for a relay like mine. I have the relay right here and unless they changed the part # the numbers on this one says 422N. But that is the only relay I found in that area of the wiring diagram. I don't know if since mine is a LE that it might have something else to do with the key reminder like anti-theft or something. B/C none of the Pathfinders I looked at yesterday were LE and none of them had a place for that relay. Now what do I do?
  21. OK, I found a part # for the relay. This particular website gives part# 25230-79910. I run the part through the actual Nissan parts website for a 94 Nissan pathfinder and it comes back as "key reminder relay" with over a $20.00 price and no picture. I google the part # and it comes back as 1989-1994 Nissan maxima anti-theft relay. None of the websites give a picture. So, I don't know if I am purchasing the right part or not. Guess I will end up at the Nissan Dealership.
  22. Thanks for the response. No I have not tested it b/c I really don't know how to do it. Not much of an electrical "guru". I have a 12v testing light and that is about it. Thanks, brc
  23. I have a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder LE. My problem is that when the truck is off, the door is open, and the key is in the ignition there is no chime or "dinging noise". Also, when the truck is off and the headlights are on the chime does not work. I know some people go through the trouble to get rid of that annoying noise. But when I am driving during the day when you need your lights on say in rain or fog. I sometimes stop somewhere and get out and without that dinging noise I leave my lights on. I know the switch in the door jam works. I have removed the driver's side kick panel removed the chime and replaced it with one I no that works out of a D21 hardbody and no dinging noise. A few weeks ago (you can see my older posts) I had electrical issues with my a/c. Without the use of the factory service manual I could have not fixed it on my own. Looking on the EL section of the fsm on page 88 on the lower left is a relay #336m. This is the key reminder relay. Well I wanted to get a new one to see if that would fix my chime problem. I got on the web and went to the usual places like autozone, advance auto parts, napa, rock auto and could not find it anywhere. I have googled and googled the part with no success. I don't know if the relay fits on any other nissan models of the same year (1994). I could go to the Nissan dealership. But I have went their before searching for parts and either they couldn't get parts for a twenty year old truck, or they would have to order one and hope it was the right part. I could also go to a salvage yard, but I would prefer any electrical part to be new. On the top of the relay it says nissan 12v 5a. It has other #'s and even a picture on the top, but I can't even type that. The relay has 5 tips. The two perfectly apart from one another say one and two. The one in the middle says three. The ones that are slightly staggered a part from one another say four and five. Here are some pics of the relay. Anyone have any idea where I could buy this relay. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. brc
  24. Thanks. I was just thinking my pathfinder is 20 years old and the electrical stuff is not that bad, but it still gives me fits. I also have a 2008 Pathfinder. It has so many electrical gadgets that I hardly ever use, and you know sooner or later something is going to tear up. I don't think I could handle anything like that.
  25. Actually it was the part. Just took me a while to figure out why it wouldn't work.
