  1. The ATF fluid should be changed regardless.

The only reason my pathy went so long without it, was another member of the family who owned it before me did nothing to maintain it.

A friend of mine put 350k on his truck's automatic (not nissan) without a rebuild. He attributed it to transmission flushes at every oil change, and flushes before towing his 26 foot toyhauler about 3 or so hours out to the desert, over cajon pass.

So crazy that the public can figure things like this out, but not the manufactures.

I think there is something to what Towncivilian is implying about manufacturers wanting vehicles to fail so the owner

    has to buy another.

  2. Not changing any lubricant is idiotic and neglectful. No lubricant can last the lifetime of a vehicle, only the lifetime of the manufacturer warranty which is their intent. Change it, there are no downsides. If it fails shortly after a change, it was going to fail anyway.

Is this an implication that Nissan knew the transmission would fail if the atf was not changed?

  3. Mine went about 100k without any changes.

Started slipping real bad, lost 1st and reverse.

Changed it, replaced the little filter, everything was back to normal.

About 70-80k miles later everything started to repeat with some crunchy grindy noises.

It had so many other issues that we just scrapped the car.

I would love to hear from an engineer or technician from Nissan that developed this vehicle explain why atf changes are not necessary.

  4. The R50 is at least twice as tough as a WD21 in stock form! % safety devices like airbags and the minimal emissions control system. Eventually I may go with a VG powered R50 though after WD21's get too old.

I am curious how everyone feels about this?

  5. Are we talking leather vs cloth or cloth vs cloth?

I have leather in my SE and the leather is torn to shreds and held together with duct tape. Despite that they are super supportive (hard/firm). The cloth seats in my donor XE vehicle are going to be put in the SE. The fabric seems pretty rough, but they aren't torn to pieces like the leather so the choice is obvious... The XE seats aren't as supportive (hard) so longer trips will probably be better.

I'm going over to the donor vehicle today if I can (maybe even to swap out the seats), and I'll sit in the cloth seats for a few minutes with shorts and a wife beater on and let you know just how rough the fabric is against my legs and back.

side note: I'm starting to think that SE and XE were random letters put on the pathfinders and really hold no meaning other than a resale value...

    Cloth vs. cloth.

  6. Between my buddies XE and my SE, the only thing I really notice is the fabric. And maybe my SE has lumbar. Of course mine are 18 years old and his are 19, so maybe brand new they were built different....but I sort of doubt it.

I believe that it does. XE does not. That makes a difference.

  7. Just from experience with the wifes Altima... If I could do it again I would not have gotten it. With the exception of ONE time (crank sensor) every other time has been "Sorry sir this isnt covered under the extended plan you purchased." and "yes sir I am aware that it is a bumper to bumper warranty, however it appears that this just does not fall under that."

Was it the Nissan Security + Plus warranty or an aftermarket one?

What were the issues not covered?

  8. How about the Nissan Security + Plus vehicle protection plan?

Reading the brochure, they sure make it compelling to buy the warranty. From what I read, it seems

like a bumper to bumper warranty.

Lets say the owner will drive the vehicle it can no longer run and purchase the extended 7 year plan.

If my niece pays $1,000 for the warranty, the question is will she have $1,000 worth of repairs from year 3 (when the

included warranty ends) to year 10.

My guess is, she might have $1K of repairs.

  9. What is everyone's experience with aftermarket vs. oem parts being used to repair damage from an accident?

    Separate body and engine repair.

What year is the Pathfinder that was repaired?

What about engine repairs not from an accident?

  10. Yes that is correct, Nissan offered them as seperate parts back in the day.

The Grill Guard is the center piece that mounts to the vehicle frame and has two tabs for mounting fog/driving lights. Last time I checked there were a few left at the main warehouse but they are discontinued by Nissan and when they are gone they are gone.

The Brush Guard is the set of two 'hoops' on each end that mount to the Grille Guard. They are also discontinued and no longer available.

What does Nissan charge for those parts? With the brush guard, obviously of curiosity out of course since they are no longer available.

  11. I Googled this and a lot of vendors seem to refer to a brush guard and grill guard as the same thing.

I know Nissan offered each of these as an OEM accessory so they must be different.

Is the brush guard a metal piece that goes underneath the front of the truck?

Is the OEM brush guard tubular or just a piece of metal?

Is the grill guard what goes in front of the vehicle that protects only the headlights and grill?

On a tangent. I have the accessories pamphlet for the 94 PF. Believe it or not, there was an OEM winch.

    Does anyone have one?

I wonder if that thing worked well.
