  1. It is my understanding that they offer a higher flow rate. I think its a 20% flow rate increase over the stock pathfinder pump. Anyone else on here know more information about this?
  2. These are great suggestions. I already called my Nissan dealership to order the rear main and front main as well as 4 cam seals. My engine that is blown has a like new Nissan water pump and Nissan timing belt that were only 6,000 miles old when the head gasket blew. So I guess all I have left is a 300zx oil pump swap and a quick inspection inside the pan. I really hope this engine is in good shape!
  3. So I purchased a used engine yesterday. The company told me it was a actually an engine from japan with a guaranteed mileage under 80,000. One year unlimited mileage warranty too. Not too bad I thought.(updates when it gets here) Anyway, the question I have is what exactly are the differences of a "jdm" vg30i v.s. the 'us' vg30i? Are there any? I couldn't find any literature on it... 1/87 or 4/87 production date (a&b or w series)
  4. My experience with the Z car is limited, but I have worked on an 88 several times The engine in the 84-86 is what I'm looking for, right? So this qualifies as an A-B production vg30? Do these cars use a throttle body injection or the multi-port?
  5. http://www.redz31.net/images/headwork/wheads.jpg here is a Nissan TSB for these heads. I was under the impression that the heads are not interchangeable. My parts guy at the Nissan dealership also told me the same. If they are interchangeable (which i hope they are) How do you match the coolant ports from the block to the coolant ports on the head? Also which head gasket do I use... A-B or W? I cant buy a nissan A-B gasket. They discontinued them
  6. Ok, so I have a 87 pathfinder with the vg30i. The problem is my production date. Mine is 1/87. This is an old block and old head. Nissan changed to a newer casting for both the block and the head for the 4/87 and newer. I have one bad cylinder head and I need to get this thing together. I am at a loss. Most places I call will either tell me there is not a difference in the production dates (which is wrong) or they don't have it listed/available. I am trying to avoid buying a newer core engine. Does anyone know a reliable source of remanufactured heads? Hell, just a good used core and I will have it rebuilt! Can anyone sell me a used cylinder head from a 1/87-3/87?!? Any info would be fan-freaking-tastic.
  7. I haven't tried to purchase any type of head gasket after the ordeal with the Nissan Parts dept. I had a friend suggest a local parts house ordering a generic set and take my old head in and mark any differences. If the gaskets are too diferent then I can send them back. That is always a good last resort I guess. I just want to make sure what I'm slapping in there is going to hold up and I would like to have it for a long time.
  8. Ozarks have it all! Supreme Camping Weather!

  9. So I am rebuilding my 87 2dr 4x4 and i have the TBI 3.0. I ordered a gasket set from my local Nissan dealership and they were able to get the whole set minus the head gaskets!? The parts manager told me that my production date is to early. Mine being manufactured 01/87. I was told that the heads changed in 04/87 to a newer "w" series vg30i. Nissan no longer sells the head gasket to the pre "w" series casting. After some research I did find a few pictures and step by step rebuilds for other people. I found that water jackets are different on the 300zx (vg30e....not i). I also found a chart that tries to list the workable combination of old and new casting numbers. The only thing that worries me is being able to find a "pre W" series head. I have a cracked head that needs to be replaced before I can move on in this rebuild. Is this going to be easier to replace both heads with the new casting and port out some water jackets? Or Do I try just buying one head and hope its correct and possibly have the old casting crack on me again? How many people have encountered this issue? In 3 months how much did they really change the head? Anyone know from experience?
  10. cant stop thinking about my rebuild

  11. Thought I read somewhere that I could bore the vg30 into a vg33? Is that false? Oh and the head bolt was just old I guess. Stock headbolts and gasket lasted 231,000. First time to tear down and nothing shows wear except the bolt head was missing on one of the bolts. Never seen that before either. Im trading my 87 toyota pickup with a rebuilt 22R for this beast.
  12. I recently purchased a 87 2 door pathfinder and the engine had a broken head bolt around number 4 cylinder. The engine is pulled and I will be doing a full machined rebuild. I was hoping to get some suggestions on switching up my power options. I know with a lot of Nissan/ Toyota engines you can swap parts from a newer/older style and get helpful hp/torque gains from them.(ie, Pistons from an old 20R fit into the 22r and add compression, etc) Since I am at the tear down stage, I have a blank slate waiting to be modified. I have never owned a Nissan truck, only Nissan Z and SX cars so I don't know all the interchangeable parts here. PLEASE help me find a better head or cam combo. Pistons, intake, cranks, distributors, etc...
