  1. this is shapping up to be a good looking ride.

buch of pathy's, mild to wild

    a possible xj,

    maybe a willies,

    a rotary powered samauri

    a solid axle yota..

    keep it comming guys..

it would be great to go run evens creak on saturday and then up to elbe on sunday..

    very intresting indeed :cool2:

  2. hey hey, that was my idea exactly! i was gonna weld a bead all the way down the side though....

just for kicks, how much is one down there at your yard?

and yes, i've been driving on it for a couple weeks now, no weird drivability problems have cropped up.

don't weld it all the way down. You will warp the control arm.

Will the ones off of a 87 fit? I have 2 of them.. just go to my house, talk to my wife and tell her i said you can have them. (i'm back in ohio) But you have to take them off of the axle.

  3. Why is this one so much cheaper? With the $60 instant rebate that's $389 for a 9000# winch.

    milemarker_e9000_b.jpg

I'd like a winch, but also am discouraged by the cost of a bumper to be able to hold the winch.

thats a mile marker winch.. nothing wrong with them. the hydraulic version is used on military rigs

  4. i'm not going to vote, cause either day works for me.

if you are brave... i have a friend of mine with a wicked built samauri. he's going to try to come up from california to go wheeling that weekend.

If he does.. wich ever day we are not going to go to evens creek, we are going to go to elbe hills. (wicked nasty stuff up there) so it could be a duel day weekend. but, if you go to elbe, make sure you are built to the hilt and not afraid of some nasty stuff.

    thats a later topic..

  5. ok, i wanted to start a poll. how do i do this?

Some of the Pathfinder guys are going to get together the last weekend in april and go wheelin up at evens creek.

    Wich day is best?

    April 29th, Saturday,

    april 30th,Sunday.

if somebody knows how to turn this into a real poll.. please help me out

  6. I'd keep the 55 chev.. no question there.

I'd swapt the pathfinder motors, to give you teh grunt in the 95. then junk the 91, and sell the 95 for a few extra bucks.

Clevland winters suck. all the salt on the roads.. a 10 year old car out there is half rusted through.

  7. Building... By chance are you doing the square steel method for the front?

Nope, I took an old ford drive line, cut it back to the proper length. I then took the old stock nissan yoke (which the OD was too small to work as a pilot in the old ford tube. I welded it up and then machined it back down to the proper diameter to fit tight in the ford tube.. I then made sure everything was level, in line and square to the world.. then welded it up.. Its all done now just have to install it tonight.

  8. I have this fantasy of building a fully independent rock crawler with about 24" to 36" of travel and active suspension at all four corners.... I have the concept pretty well flushed out in my mind.

Although it would be outrageously complex to engineer and rather expensive to build, it would absolutely re-define the activity and blow everything else away.

The down side is that it would require all rock crawlers to follow suit to be competitive, which would mean anybody with less than a few hundred thousand dollars or their own engineers and machine shop would not be able to compete, potentially killing the sport.

this has been done.. and then they always go back to solid axle.. the reason for this is theat 4wheel Independant suspensions dont tend to side hill very well

  9. OK so I've made my decision. I decided to go for it and get the L&P stage one set up. How difficult is this to swap out? It seems pretty straightforward. I have changed TREs before with out a problem and I'm pretty pumped for this upgrade. Here are the questions

    1) How hard is it to drill out the idler and pitman arms to 5/8?

    2) How long should this all take.

    3) L&P requires a alignment afterwards, I've heard of people having problems getting their trucks aligned, any tips to get them to do it right the firs time.

    thanks

    ticker -bounce-

It took me all of about 5 min to drill out the pitman arm.. this is what you do.

go down to autozone and get yourself a Free to use pitman arm puller, comes right of.

Second, take the idler arm down to your company machine shop put it in the chuck, and go right throug it.. :P

If you don't have that option, find a friend who has a drill press. take your time.

You could do it by hand, but don't try to start fromt the big side, you'll hose up your bit and you won't cut it staight. go from the other side. This is not the recommended way though (required disclaimer)

  10. If people are planning on meeting up before heading out, I'd suggest meeting at the 410 Cafe rather than out in Wilkeson or elsewhere. The 410 Cafe is on Hwy 410 in Buckley, directly across the street from the turn off to Hwy 165, and it would be much easier for people to find.

Agreed. this is a better place to meet.

anybody interested keep it open and we can have an open chat a week or so before the trip. so we can finalize everything.

  11. That would be ok. I'm gonna be home this weekend. If you wanted to get together before the end of april, sunday march 12 is the only day i'll be free till the end of april.. I'm a really busy guy. I have to do my gear install that sunday so i'll be home. If you want to go on a road trip from tacoma and come out to puyallup, we could meet.

I'd love to meet some local guys.. expecially another SAS Pathy.

I can tell you how to lift the back of your pathy more easily...

    (Early broco springs) :secret:

  12. you know, it that first couple of pics of your idler arm, it looks bent backward toward the rear of the vehicle.. that could be very bad news. Maybe it isn't but in the pic it sure does.

  13. i had that problem.. it was the auto hubs.. they work and friction and they were worn out.. I would start with a set of manual locking hubs.. they are cheap and will garantee your wheels are locked in. My stock 87 pathy with no LSD would go absolutely anywere unless i lifted a tire.. then it was a problem. I dont believe that his being or not being a LSD would cause the problem he is talking about.

  14. Thanks, we have GI Joe's up here too :aok:

the GI joes up in Washington aren't as good as the ones in oregon.. I used to fequent the one of Lancaster in salem, and i have one just down the steet in puyallup.. i can't even get a decent bench seat cover up here and i used to buy them for our work trucks... i odn't know why but the salem one is better than my local anyway.

  15. I didn't drop the radiator either, just removed that bottom portion of the shroud as well. It just snaps into place, and comes out easy. I didn't have to buy new hoses either. Actually, I tried. I went to Napa, and the parts guy and I spent a fair amount of time with various books and pulling random hoses that looked close, but we couldn't find the right match. Back to the drawing board. With a little twisting and rearranging, the old ones work. The top was just a matter of twisting, or I might have flipped it, I don't remember. The bottom was close, but was too long and slightly kinked. So I just cut off about 1/2-1" or so and reinstalled. All is well a year later.

I don't know about the brake lines, as I just followed the kit instructions and pulled the lines from the plastic clips, and let the coiled portions of the hard lines stretch like the kit says.

So, no new parts here. But braided lines probably wouldn't be a bad idea anyways.

same for me and if you stetch ot the coils, you can actually snap them back into place on the hangers.. i have nearly everything tidy'd up.. i didn't change any hoses, didin't move raidator.. although i need to change that hose, its kinked a little. but i think i can cut it and make it work, change it to a different angle.. and i still don't have a shroud on at all. waiting to change it to an electric fan
