well, it's being odd now, the other day when I was trying to merge onto a local highway (50 mph speed) the RPM's went nuts and started bouncing up and down the RPM range through first and second, making the truck surge and buck. I'm thinking that's a clutch issue more than anything else, but also it's 200K worth of unknown driving styles. I know how I abuse my engine, but I have no idea how it's been treated up to the 194K I bought it at. I'd rather spend the cash to either rebuild, or build a replaceemtn motor before it explodes, since it's my main form of transportation now. is there any info on what motors will bolt into ours? heh, a V8 from a titan would be fun, but I'm sure the bolt patterns have changed just a tad. sadly, I'm 5 years short of being able to put collector plates on it. in my state, once you put collector plates on something, it never gets smogged again... and then options are wide open. (all that computer controlled junk would be buh-bye, and it'd be getting an edelbrock) but that's for the future.. for now, I just want to know what's been done to it. mostly I'd probably just need gaskets, bearings and rings. piston and connecting rods are probably fine. and lastly.. a JY engine would be? like I said, usually I'm into older pontiacs.. throw me a block code from one of them, and I'd be able to tell you the year and displacement..

ok, I just went through this ntire section looking, but what I'm looking for is an engine rebuild kit for my 87 (V6) engine. just rolled over 200K, and it's been acting extremely strange. One of my favorite yet more expensive hobbies is ripping a motor completely apart and rebuilding it. generally older pontiac blocks, but the principles are really the same. I've been looking for what I generally buy for my pontiacs, a master rebuild kit, includes pistons, connecting rods, gaskets out the wazoo, and generally other misc things, like the oil pump, water pump, junk like that... yet I haven't found squat so far. I figured I may be looking in the wrong place. and no, I'd rather not buy a whole new motor. parts are generally cheaper... and they're fun, too. that, and I'll probably hit the heads a tiny bit and polish the ports and whatnot. may have to bore it out a tiny bit to get parts to fit, but that remains to be seen, until I tear into it. (which will most likely be summer, while I drive my current project, once the motor in it is rebuilt, but that's another story entirely.)

Good thing she doesn't watch mythbusters.. you'd be sweating your balls off, since they showed that windows down is more fuel efficient than running the AC.

well, crap. Westy is up in the denver area (60 or so miles away) and I'm working twelves until wednesday.. so, no go for me. :furious:

smart remarks? okie dokie.. rig up a spring loaded hammer to a string, so when you need to, you can whack the relay box from the comfort of your seat. real suggestion? chek your grounds, sounds like one might be loose, or have bad contact. -
I'd say, if they fit your pathy, keep em. it's always nice to have an extra set, in case of damage, or if your truck needs to change roles (off-road vs daily driver, for instance) but off-hand, those look like the same things I pu on my ranger once upon a time, except mine were five lugs, and no vent-holes, so they were solid rims. I can't recall paying too mch for them, I think they're AR (american racing) rims. like so. or I'm wrong. it's been known to happen a time or two.
-
I'm sure they can find paths fairly well..... actually using them?
-
Not sure if you'd consider it an intake, but there's always this route

I seriously want to make a bumper sticker.. "Hummers are for the bedroom, not off-road".. wonder if it would sell...

Well, the AC already doesn't work.. blows nothing but hot air.. probably have a leak somewhere, and they charged up the system right before I test drove it so it wouldn't be apparent.. Luckily I just got a refund from a company that owed me some cash, so I'll have the money to replace even that one, now... probably next week sometime, gotta take the wife to the airport tomorrow.
-
So.. had my pathy for months or so, and late last week I lost my fan/ alternator belt. Was more than a little broke, so I could only replace that belt, and the other two looked in pretty good shape, could still read the manufactuerer's brand name and part number, good flex, and looked essentially brand new. Today, belt number two bit the big one.. the AC belt. when that happened, it flipped the other belt over, and hence that one was then missing teeth, and was starting to get cut on the edges. Well, the AC's been toast since the day after I got it, so I decided to leave that belt off, and just replace the PS belt (still being in a broke situation) Now, all three of the belts in question were labeled "Carquest" and looked brand spanking new the day I got the pathy.. and still the outside looks new, even though inside the PS belt teeth are missing, among other things. Anyone else have this experience with that brand of belts? I do have to say that swapping belts on this is a heck of a lot easier than changing and tightening belts on my 70 firebird.

I'm gonna take a stab at "5 speed".. manual, at a guess.
-
Near as I know, the only thing that needs to be changed is the internals of the FA system, since alcohol is more corrosive.
-
Looks like you can get anywhere from 30-70 cfm depending on size and speed. so it'd probably end up as one of those "uh.. ok..." kind of mods.

Not if you're rock crawling slowly...

A.... fan... ok, now that got me thinking.. computer fans might work.. they're (relatively) cheap, and designed for heat soak applications, run on 12v dc... fender vents + switched fans... And if you're anything like me, you've got tons of the little buggers laying around in old cases. just don't get the neon lit ones.. Mr. Police Officer may not like that.
-
or you could massage these into your hood... hmmm, may have to look. Might have a set of those laying around.
-
seized fan clutch? son of a.. maybe that's what's up with mine.. driving around all you hear from the engine bay is the fan. The other day I lost the fan/alternator belt, and I could actually hear the motor.. sounded kinda beefy. was thinking of swapping in an electric fan, but it may just be the fan clutch, after all... that "sounds like a bus under acceleration" just made me smack my forehead. sorry for the thread hijack...

Power washers clean up bedliner pretty well. Hand washing with a sponge might suck, but if you shoot it real good with a hose, it usually comes clean fairly easily.

Time to replace that pic in your sig, methinks.

1: tried to use it to patch up the stock exhaust manifold on a Ford E-150 van. Years later, this led to the confusion of the dumb clerk in the parts store asking me why I wanted 3" header collector gaskets for a Van... :X it was cheaper to buy and have headers installed than to buy one stock exhaust manifold for that big pig. 2: uh.. ya know, I think #1 and #2 are pretty well linked... the manifold wasn't really cracked.. the entire rear port tube was pretty much cracked off. the only thing holding it on was therear bolt.
-
Sadly enough.. that'd be 1K off what I owe.... MY desire is to not mod it until after it's paid off. got bit in the rear-end on a layoff when I got a Harley I'd modded repoed. never doing that again.. 2K wasted on parts I didn't get to enjoy for very long.

I live in C springs, and while I'm not sure if they'll do it or not, try getting a price quote from Catfish engineering used to be they only did exhausts, but I've heard they do total engine now. small family shop, usually pretty good prices in my ecperience.

The roll on bed liner can be purchased in Checker auto parts. comes in a blue can, and I think dupli-color makes it? can't recall, but Checker is where I bought mine from.
