  1. I've got one more quick question regarding this 91 pathy....I'm wanting to switch my auto tranny for a stick, will I need to change the t-case also or will my t-case for the auto work??
  2. thanks for all that have helped out. this is a great site!!!! after I get this fixed and going again, I'll be posting some pics of it.
  3. so I'll have to pull the intake off also to get to it?
  4. I'll get the plenum out of the way and see. after it warms up a little....no garage to work in and it's about 35 here. I hope it has a hole already
  5. so I'll have to drill a hole in the block?? I might just rebuild the 91's motor or get a crank kit for it. I dont like the idea of drilling a hole...might hit a water jacket and really be screwed
  6. I've checked it, then I manually pulled on the knob, it's all of the way up. I was afraid I was going to have to pull the panel off. that might wait till after the motor gets back in...
  7. I'm about to start working on my 91 4 door pathy but i cant get the driver side rear door to open. I have tried using both door handles and niether one will open it. any ideas on how to get the door to release?? Thanks, Charles
  8. I would suggest getting a swr meter with the antenna tuner built in. I bought mine from a truck stop for about 25.00. it has a swr meter, power meter and built in antenna tuner. it stays hooked up and you turn a knob to adjust the match with your antenna. very nice setup, I have my swr under 1 with it and I'm using a cheap magmount from wal-mart with a Cobra 25LTD classic. I took my swr meter out, it's a truckers series rpswr-4. power meter is good from 1w to 100w.
  9. are there any tricks or tips to make it easier? I have never changed a motor in a pathfinder. I have changed the motor a couple of times in mustang.
  10. my 88 was doing that. it would idle high then the gauges quit working right, then the alternator light came on. after I changed the alternator, the idling went back to normal and the gauges started working again
  11. if she's like my little sister, a cell phone so she can call you to come use the stuff for her...lol
  12. I'm in AL, about an hour south of Huntsville. if you dont care for mud, then you wont like our 4 wheeling spots here..lol...I know a couple of spots that if you dont make it thru, you wont see your truck again.....I dont know how many bowties are in the bottom of those holes...lol..
  13. I had the trans shop check it out. they dropped the pan and it was full of metal peices and shavings. they said the clutch packs probably welded together. they want 1600.00 to pull it and rebuild it and put back in. I only had it for about a month before it quit, so I found the 1991 4 door that has a good tranny and bought the whole car for 400.00
  14. I'm not really concerned about the time it will take. the trans in the 88 went out in May. it decided it didnt like reverse anymore. it wants to go forward in all of the gears, even N. I found the 91 and bought it for parts, but it's better shape than the 88. and I paid ALOT less for it..lol..
  15. the 91 is the one I want to fix since it's a 4 door. the 91 has 226,000 miles and dropped a rod bearing. it still tries to start, it turns over about 2 times and you hear a loud clunk...you have to let off the starter and then turn it over again for about 2 more turns, then it clunks again. I'm trying to decide to rebuild the motor in the 91 or pull the one from the 88 and swap it. the motor in the 88 runs like a dream. lots of power and does about 22mpg.
  16. is there any difference in blocks? is one better?
  17. the 88 has 126,000 and the 91 has 221,000 before a rod started knocking. I definitly want the 4 door fixed b/c I have a 2 y/o daughter and another baby due in March.
  18. I have 2 pathifinders. 1 is a 1988 2 door 4wd v6 auto that the tranny went out in, I bought a 1991 4 door 4wd v6 auto for parts. the 88 has a good motor and bad tranny, the 91 has a good tranny, but bad motor. how hard is to change the motors in these and is there any difference in the 2 motors other than the 88 being carb and 91 is FI?? thanks in advance, Charles
  19. I'm 26, going to be 27 in about 2 weeks....been working on cars since I was 12.....
  20. That looks like fun...sure wish the tranny didnt go.....I miss my 4wd...lol....
  21. here's mine on the laptop....I'm a volunteer firefighter...
  22. the light will come on and stay on for a "hard" fault...that is, a fault that the ecu constantly sees....a "soft" fault, the light will come on and go off as the ecu sees it, but it still remains in memory....you can still pull the codes w/o the being on....
  23. HI.. I have a 88 pathy that the trans went out in and I bought a 91 pathy for parts. The 91 needs rod bearings, how hard is it to replace them? or would it need a total rebuild. it had about 240k on the odo... I was going to take the trans out and put in the 88, but the 91 is in better shape, so I let the 88 go back to the car lot where I got from.....any advice would be greatly appreciated....thanks, Charles
  24. well, I was driving it and it sorta went clunk and it wont shift right if you can get it to go....I drained the fluid and it had ALOT of metal in the bottom of the pan....the trans shop said it probably welded the clutches together.....
