Hey Pathians. Any idea on a part number for the NGK Iridium IX's for a VQ? Also, I was looking at my VQ beast this morning, and noticed that I dont have traditional plug wires. I didnt look around too much, but do I have a cap and rotor or does the new electronic stuff eliminate that also? I am thinking that I would just have to do the plugs. Please correct me if I am wrong.

i have an 01 with 48k miles that experienced the same problem for about a year. i think the code was p0158 - rear driver's side o2 low voltage. ses would come on only after highway cruising for at least an hour. it would go off eventually or when i reset it with the scanner. next time i was on the highway it would come back on. all the while, i was getting pretty bad gas mileage. about three months ago, i changed the o2 ($85 i think) and put in a k&n drop in filter ($45 i think) and now i get 19 to 20 mpg on the highway and probably 14 to 15 city which is normal. i am also jealous of the manual tranny. but my better half cant drive one.

free 100 pt checks? i dont trust the dealer for @!*%. not the one by my house anyway. they will say all 4 need replaced for sure! my mechanic will know. i just dont think he does that type of work. that is exactly why i thought he would be a good person to ask for a quick look-see.

red/grim - i know. get the 3 ton. my jack stands are 3 ton. i planned on getting a 3 ton. then i was in walmart for something else and saw one for so cheap. i should know better. i usually stick to the buy it once (good quality only) tool purchase rule for long run savings and reliability. i guess i just need to be reminded every so often...

it is more noticeable from the rear than the front. i will have to think about where to take it to get some trustworthy diagnosis! i dont think my normal mechanic does suspension work.

DONT BUY THE $16 2 TON JACK FROM WALMART! I used it last night when rotating my tires and it sucks! It moves all over the place and does not have enough lift. Only 13 inches. The situation was resolved when he jumped over the counter and told the guy that he would kill him if he didnt hand over the keys. :X He got the keys of course, after they threatened to get him arrested for strong arm robbery. He got a call about ten minutes after he got home from the original manager apologizing. I got free oil changes from the friendly manager for about a year after that! Then he quit so I stopped going there.

hey pathians - for some time, my pathy has sagged slightly toward the driver's side. it is most noticable from the rear. i thought it was worse last night after rotating my tires, but i looked again this morning on flat ground, and it isnt as noticable. the pathy ride is fine, and i checked tire pressure. visual inspection of the stuts on driver's side didnt show any obvious sagging or fluid seepage. Here are some pics. Thoughs?

not really important, but i bought a cheap 2 ton tonight at walmart - on sale for $16. mzx - there was a 2 ton set at pep boys for $40 that had all the stuff mentioned in that craftsman set. obviously an off brand though.

transponder keys can be quite expensive, as randy noted. the dealer i bought my pathy from (who sells lots of lexus, audi, bmw, mercedes, etc) told me about an inexpensive work around for this: take the transponder out of your key with some tweasers and/or a utility knife. remove the steering column interior panel. with the key in the on position and the chip pressed against the ignition housing, move the chip around watching for the security light to go out. there is only a small area where it will work, but it shouldnt be hard to find. once you find that sweat spot, mark it with a sharpie and glue it in. that is it. this mod gives two benefits - $6 hardware store keys and remote starter mod without extra security bypass parts. negative - easier to lift the vehicle since it can be hot wired. but most thieves know which vehicles have the transponder technology and leave you alone. and your security still works.

SO I AM GUESSING THAT SINCE I ONLY PLAN TO ROTATE TIRES, I CAN STICK WITH A 2-TON. THAT IS WHAT I WAS HOPING.

i need to rotate my tires again, and i am sick of using the wimpy jack that came with my pathy, or borrowing the neighbor's floor jack. i have jack stands already, so i was curious what weight rating i should get. my 01 specs say the curb weight is about 4200 lbs i think. do i need to get teh 2.5 ton, or can i get something less, since the jack wont ever be holding up the entire weight of the vehicle? thanks.

Here is the pic. So does anyone have a product suggestion for me? I think most of the scratches will fade or completely go away with a decent rubbing compound. There are some areas where the paint is gone so I will touch up there. I ordered some paint from the dealer today - $6 I think the guy said. It will be in on Thursday.

I dont mind 'sport' or 'utility' imperfections in my Pathy because they show that the truck is being used properly (not mearly a mall crawler). In fact, I have quite a few myself from trails and construction sites (work). But the marks in question are clearly from a parking lot mishap. In my opinion, this type of damage just makes the owner look like a @$$hole driver! So I want to mask it as best I can.

hey pathians. the idiot in me reared his head the other day and forced me to scuff my bumper on a light standard in the parking lot at my office. so now i have a few nice scuffs, scratches, etc on my 01 SE. i am gonna get some touch up paint from the dealer this week, but i was hoping for a product suggestion that might lift/mask some of the scratches. i have used rubbing compound on body panels before, but my bumber cover is plastic. if it would be helpful, i could snap a pic to show the damage. thanks in advance.

GrimGreg - I think that was the funniest post I have read on this forum to date. I have not done much off-roading since my college days (95 Trooper), but I can agree that your explanation is quite accurate. Lawyercalhoun - I would go with the new Pathy for sure. The pricing is better than than 4Runner, and I personally also prefer the look inside and out! I will most likely buy the 2005 body style when my kids are older and I can make use of the 3rd row seats. I have an 01 (first year for the VQ) and love it. But this is an enthusiest board, so everyone here is a Pathy fan.

So I had the Pathy at the dealer again, this time for an entire weekend so that a tech could take it home and do a test in an area other than the dealership. The idiot tech and idiot manager did not bother to listen/read the problem description I offered. The tech drove my Pathy for 85 f-ing miles and 'couldnt recreate the problem.' No $hit you couldnt recreate it, the problem only presents itself in the first 100 yds! So needless to say, I am done with that dealer. There is another MUCH LESS convenient option that I will go to next. I think I am gonnna monitor it for a few weeks and see how the change in morning temp effects the issue. My wife - a school teacher - will also be done soon for the summer, so it will be much easier being down to only one car. The tech did tell me that when the fluid is cold, it will shift differently. Does anyone agree with that. He also said that slipping would typically be worse when the fluid is warm (thinner). The problem has not been as noticable the last few days when it was much warmer during my morning commute. Also, is it noteworthly that the slipping I have noticed has happened when accelerating up hill?

there is an 01 LE by my work that has 265/70/16 on what appears to be a stock suspension. the wheel wells are very full! it looks sweet! i guess i should try to get in touch with him for his/her first hand experience. i will probably just get 255/70 on my stock SE rims. but not until fall/winter comes.

I have two kids with toys galore, and I wife who buys junk at 'craft shows' and flea markets. So I have no room at my house for an extra set of tires. -thnkboutit- I will just wait until they wear out and get some ATs. I am still trying to build up the confidence to get the 265/70s for my stock suspension and rims. I have heard conflicting opinions about rubbing the stut tower and plastic wheel well liner, so I might go with the slightly smaller 255/70. Either Revos or Geolanders. As for my current tires in 2WD in the slippy stuff, I have gotten sideways many a time. Maybe I can sell the ones I have...

I thought my 98 3.0 CL looked pretty sweat. It was a silver metalic paint that looked almost purple in some light (Primrose Metalic). Very unique color. The V6 was pretty strong in stock form (200hp)and sounded nice too. Very reliable. Didnt have a single problem with it in about two years of ownership. Heated power leather, sunroof, Bose all standard. Big trunk if you want to put a system in it. I tinted the windows, but the rest was stock. Take a look:

I dont off road at all either, but I do drive on some back country roads and on highway construction sites occasionally for work. And my wife's family has a cabin that is a bit off the beaten path, but that doesnt require much really to get to. My need is mostly based on my winter needs (Pittsburgh). My current tires are definitely highway tred. The VQ power spins them with just a tap on the gas in the wet or snow, so I will get some AT style. I am planning on the Geolanders because they have the REVO-esque tred pattern, at a friendlier price!

i think michelin makes kelly tires. i had a set of those once. they didnt wear very evenly for me. can you get us discounts on yokos? i want to get some geolander at plus 2's...

i had a 98 cl 3.0. it was my bachelor car. the 2.3 come with a manual, but i wanted the v6. loved that car. would definitely recommend one. i sold it for a 96 grand cherokee v8 liimited just before my son was born. loved that truck too, but it had tons issues in the 2 yrs i owned it. sold that and got my 01 pathy.

I stopped by the dealer on my way home from work. They didnt care about my vid. The service guy said that his tech MUST be in the vehicle when the issue occurs! He suggested leaving my Pathy for a few days so that a tech can drive it around a bit. I think I will see if they can take it over a weekend. Thanks for everyone's attention. No offense 4x4LE, but I have no idea what you are talking about. My best guess is that your are comparing allowing the tranny to shift "automatically" using the D position on the shifter vs using the manual 1 and 2 positions on the shifter. Maybe repost when you are not tired. Turbopath, I have not replaced the valve body. How would that relate to this potential problem with my tranny? A brief explanation would be nice. Keep in mind that I am not much of a mechanic. I recorded the bad shift on my way to work this morning to show the Nissan service people. I have a video capture device, so I could post the video clip. Can this site host such a thing? I will digitize it and post it if the size isnt too big. Can someone PM me with the limits for that? Thanks.
