  1. You are about to embark on a very frustrating but worthwhile journey. My least favourite memories were the two top bolts on the engine/transmission, not to mention the studs on the manifold or the little steel coolant lines on the rear of the engine that bolt to the throttle body. Don't make the mistake I made and ASSume that the ring gear on the new engine is the same as the old one! Mine wasn't and it cost me hours of labor. Good luck, you can email me if you get stuck jesse.livingston@hotmail.com
  2. My 89 came stock with 31's but my 93 needed the removal of some esthetic pieces to make them fit? I had to take off the corner pieces of the metal skirting that sits below the bumper and wraps around to the fender. You'll need at minimum of 5" lift, whether body or suspension or combination to fit biiger tires as well as some off set rims, but it can be acomplished on a limited budget. Have fun with it and don't rush anything.
  3. Thanks for the reply, you got an awesome looking Pathfinder there.
  4. That sounds awesome, I look forward to seeing the results...
  5. old camaro? my mom had a camaro, it was the first car i drove! first car i did a dougnut in, first car i wrapped the speedo around in, absolutely no suspension, but nothing could keep up in the corners... unless it was raining, or even a little damp! i can still remember that suttle growl in the engine. I think i got to go get one!
  6. awesome truck, looks mint, interesting two-tone. you will have many years and many miles of memories with that one! congrats.
  7. Has anyone on this site installed after market cams? Been doing some research and it seems they be the best bang for buck? Also I recommend checking out http://www.motoiq.com/Projects/ProjectNissanPathfinder/tabid/104/Default.aspx Seems to be a pretty solid rebuild. Any one installed the Calmini steering upgrade?
  8. My advice is too let the old one go respectfully. I know it was a really nice lookin stock deck, but they have become so cheap these days I'd suggest saving your frustration for bigger projects! Good luck.
  9. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate the advise.
  10. A friend of mine has the same problem! Only in his truck it's when ever he is breaking. He had a mechanic look it up and down but still hasn't found anything! You would think you would find major belt wear if the power steering pump was to blame? Good luck and let us all know when you find the problem!
  11. Hey back. Tips... Hmm, all I can suggest is head out and fins some ditches, hills, rocks, washouts... whatever and drive through them. Example. Drive into a ditch partially, get out and examine your suspension so you can get an idea of how it works when offroading. You will learn the limits quickly and believe me I have been pulled out of the muck many times! Lots of good road up Arro...

  12. First off if there is no such thing as a "positive locker" someone should let Calmini know because they are selling a "The LockRight positive locking differential is second to none." Second off, time and time again I will read a fellow Pathfinder owners question and will repeatedly see the reply of "SEARCH" over and over again. I don't care how many times I get asked the same question, I wont forward someone to a response from a similiar question asked who knows how long ago. I have been a Pathfinder owner for 10 years and would be happy to take the time to write a few words down to a fellow owner in hopes of making their experience a little less frustrating. I'm just looking for some input from someone who has had some experience with a posi rear end and if anyone has the time to write a few words on the subject it would be greatly appreciated. The funny thing is my reply to all this "SEARCHING" has given a greater response than the question??? I really don't understand? I have done 4 timing belts, 2 starters, replaced an engine, pulled injectors, repacked bearings, brakes, hubs, electrical issues, resoldered fuel pump terminals, replaced gas tank, radiator, hard wired starter, body lift, suspension lift, wheel alignment, exhaust, stereo and on and on. If anyone has any questions or needs some help I am more than happy to help you. I will not reply "SEARCH", I will reply "here's something that helped me"... So next time someone askes for some infortmation, if you have nothing to add... don't.
  13. If anyone has installed a diff locker I would like some feedback on tire wear, handling etc?
  14. Maybe I'm just stupid but what is the point in posting something if all anyone can say is "SEARCH". Well searching is what led me to this website in the first place! Yes I can search and read stuff from people decades ago or I can ask a question and get some real time input. I did search and my post was the only one that came up??? I wonder if some people even drive pathfinders on this site, seems like some just wait to see and how un-helpfull they can be! Really what's the point of having this website at all if that's the only feedback you get! Whatever.
  15. If it clicks, it is the brushes. Even with a low battery it will still engage and use every last drop of powere trying to turn over the engine. I'd suggest pulling it out, quite easy, three bolts. A knuckle socket adapther helps alot with the top bolt! Take it to a auto electric shop and the should be able to get you a new brush kit $25 maybe. Also take it all apart and clean all pieces. Make sure it is properly grounde though.
  16. Curious if anyone has installed a possitive rear locker? Possitive as in all the time, unswitched. Almost everytime I go offroad I run into the same problem of spinning tires. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting there in my lifted Pathfinder with 33" tires and watching the tire go round and round in my mirror while the other tire just does nothing!!! I know I could take out the rear sway bar, but I daily drive the truck on the highway and do not want to sacrifice control or handling. Looking for some input, i.e. tire wear, fuel consumption, handling, offroad improvements?
  17. It will fit with some bending of the bottom brackets. I have a stock brush guard on my 93 with a 3" body lift. I will however get a shop to make me up some longer bottom brackets (the ones that attach to the frame) but it works fine for now, just a little weak!
  18. I would never clean that sensor, cause if you bugger it up your truck doesn't run!!! Better of to leave it alone, besides that is what an air fliter is for.
  19. My old 89 did the same thing to me, ended up putting in a push button start. Still have to turn the key to on, but just pushed the button instead of turning key further. Worked well, cost $10 in parts. Just need two wire to your starter, one to ground and one to solenoid.
  20. I'm not sure how cold it is where you live, but there is nothing inside a starter that would freeze due to cold temperature. Unless you got water in there but even then the mechanism is incredibly strong, just think of what it does? It sounds like your brushes are sticking, very common, they wear down and no longer make contact or there is a fine powder on them. Again, knock it with a hammer a few times (not too hard) and it should turn over.
  21. I couldn't bring myself to use vice grips on my truck. Maybe if it was beat up all to hell, but it's not and is way to nice for such vulgar mechanics. After receiving just that as the only recommended solution (besides replacing with new) I did what I always do when faced with a problem. Stare, I looked long and hard, searching all corners of my brain and after a short time it came to me... A simple "Tye-Wrap" one with a metal tongue. Pulled tight around the piston. When you open the trunk, simply slide it up and it has enough friction to stop the trunk from closing. Yet you can still close the trunk without having to move it down, because it is pushed down in the process!!! I just put it on one side and seems to be enough. Simple. I like it. Remember to use your pliers and twist the excess off, this will leave a smooth edge and you will not cut yourself.
  22. Has anyone figured out an igeneous way to keep trunk open in the cold? I was thinking something like on the old screen doors? Any info would be appreciated as it closes on my head every morning! Sometimes if I "pump it up" like a dozen times it will maybe stay, usually just long enough to get my head underneath!!!
  23. After I bought my truck it became quite apparent I need a spare key pronto! Every now and then (completely random) my truck locks the doors. Whether I'm in it or not, running or not. Example... I have a gate at the end of my driveway, put truck in park, open door, close door, door locks, "#*!!#&%", retrieve spare key, open door etc... I took out the control box, cleaned it and it was fine for about six months and now it's doing it again. Very annoying. Anyone else experience the same problem?
  24. grab your trusty hammer and tap on the starter while your assistant turns the truck over, if that doesn't get it going it's not the starter. Before buying a new starter you can get a brush kit for $12 bucks from your local auto electric shop.
