Hot exhaust..melting carpet..carpet on fire!
SteeevO replied to SteeevO's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
it's all good. i have everything it's just finding the time...but i'm planning on finishing it up in 2 - 3 weeks or so. i'm having a mobile welder come to my house to weld teh brackets to my frame. but that will be after it gets out of the shop... i woke up this morning and had a feeling i should look under the hood.. i had still been getting crappy gas mileage and i had a small oil leak... i started teh pathy and there was gas comming from a fuel line feeding the injectors.. i know a simple fix but since i had to take it in for the oil leak anyways i figured i'd let the shop do it.. i know the guy that owns it anyways and he cuts me deals.... but then when i got it to the shop it had stopped leaking and there was no sign of it leaking at all....arg!! but hopefully everything will pull together here really soon.... hopefully i wll get my power back.. and it will run normal again.. they have already checked the cat and it looked fine.. and they messed with the timing a little and now fixing the fuel leak and oil leak....... i just want my pathy back. -

so it's been to the shop and my they don't really know what to do .. however it's going to go back because it's knocking really bad and after driving for maybe 20 min, it starts to backfire.... any ideas? also it feels like the power gains from the headers i had before the utah trip are gone... so i have a lack of power... i really don't know what to do if anyone could please help me out that would be great. -thnx Steevo -
but then what happens if i need to remove the headers later?

there is a tremendous loss of power and it was running very very lean... the shop called today and said the cat is prolly pluged up... which is strange cause i got a new cat at the beginning of the year..it was a universal cat... maybe a crappy one.. i did get it from a different shop than where the pathy is right now... the shop that the pathy is at right now is owned and operated by one of my dads long time friends that we go riding with... so, they are gonna drop out the cat on monday(they are closed on weekends) and see whats up...i'll keep you posted. and about the headers... i know the thorleys turn blue.. and i have seen what color blue chrome turns when it gets hot after normal operation....but this blue is far more deep and discolored blue than ever.... ->i'm gonna get a fire extinguisher<- -
So i was driving home from utah when the carpet started smoking and then melted the insulation on the power wires to my ham radio... caused a short and caught the carpet on fire.... originally i thought the metal from the dash cut the wire causeing it to short but on the way up to Mt. High to go boarding yesterday the carpet started smoking again so i pulled over and pulled the fuse thinking that it was the wires again... but now i start driving again and the floor mat melts to the carpet.... this is when i figured out the exhaust was running extremely hot...the floor down teh driver side right above the exhaust was hot... i looked undreneath and the headers are ENTIRELY blue... not just parts of it near teh engine but the entire headers all the way to where it bolts up to the rest of the exhaust... i turned around and coasted back to the freeway downhill and took it easy in the slowlane and took it to the shop.

they are OK the spring rate is quite different.. i like the stock sprinkrate better but oh well.... these are pretty stiff.. hopefully the pathy won't get the prerunner look when trying to pull the small trailer w/ the bikes on it... also about the steering.. i picked up the rancho stablizer a few days ago..thats gotta go in.. but i'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting calmini steering too...
-
Yes But euro design...basically the euro's but not h4 bulbs and are allowed on the street in the US, DOT cert.....still way brighter than stock. i'm still a little confused on what i need to mount them though because the back of the pathy lights are the same shape as the hellas but it's just the front glass that is bigger... so do i still need that headlight mounting hardware? as i see it right now i just need the grille and the corner lights...
-
thats awesome.,.. i though that that website was all jacked up w/ false inof... which it is to a certain extent.... is that all i need is the other grille and corner lights to make the hellas work or do i need some other brackets too? i'm gonna do the hella conversion.. just a matter of parts.. just like the 4wd conversion...
-
what are you talking about?...i'm hosting these pics off my home comp and it's clean.
-
So yeah lots of pics.... this the bracket for the spacer so i could use the 4WD tranny bracket... 2.5" exhaust where it bolts up to the headers.. muffler... calmini rear springs and rancho 5000's underneath one piece driveshaft waiting for the front diff... Calmini UCA's... Picture of the pahty like 45 min ago... so yeha just waiting for the front diff....
-
welp the brackets that need to be weleded to the frame for my front diff came in today...(the correct ones this time ) and i also got my calmini 3" lift in today.. but unfortunately i'm leaving to utah on tuesday so i won't be finishing up the 4WD till after i get back. but i'm glad i FINALLY!! got the correct brackets for the front diff.
-
welp i found These hella lights however either the site has bogus info or i cross referenced teh numbers wrong cause the ones i picked up today are not as wide as the stock ones... so i'm going back to 4wheel parts in teh morning to pick up my steering stablizer and also ask them if there are wider ones.. but i did see that there is an industry standard number for the lights h6054.. does anyone know what the "industry standard" is for the pathy's lights? cause h6054 lead me to the wrong lights... take a look at This page out of the FSM my lights are like teh first pic if they were like the second pic then the hellas would fit fine. ...or is there a clear cover that i need to take off??...i have never taken my headlight appart before...
-
hella offers a conversion kit.. thats what i'm getting. not really sure what it all consits of but even if i need relays.. no bigggie...
-
So i found out that hella makes headlight replacements that are twice as brigt as stock ones... so i ordered tehm today through 4wheelparts.. i'm picking them up on friday.. hope it goes together well.
-
thats what i said too but they can do custom lengths and spring rates for w/e u are going to use them for... (trying to look at the bright side of $300 springs)
-
it's a good thing i basically memorized what switch does what for the a/c and heater cause when i'm driving at night.... the panel is pitch black.. it has been that way for a very long time but i'm slowly getting around to fixing the lil things.. so yeah has anyone had to replace the bulb back there?...where is it? i have looked a few times, but can never get to the screws that i thought would get the panel loose to look on the back side...they are being blocked by the panel itself... who's genious i daea was that?... i need help...can't find any previous threads on this... i looked this time..

$17 to replace the plate plus w/e the sticker costs... i guess there is some dumb law that says u need one on the front and the back....weather tehy enforce it or not is another story... it might be a little difficult trying to pull someone over from the front after noticing that they don't have a plate on the front....
