  1. I'm not in NOAS but I run around with a bunch of those guys (hell Richard & Rob live/play down the street from me). I know that theres a couple of people talking about going to URE the 2nd weekend in April... a bit soon for me. I don't want to have to deal with all of the Jeeps, Toyotas, Zuks, etc, etc. I'll wait a month or so before I try to go nuts.

BTW I'm here in NC as well.

oh well i don't have my license yet(all of my wheelin has been done on the half developed area). but in july i'll have it, i have a few friends that would come down there with me. what part of nc are you at?

  2. For SOUND I'd go with a dynomax muffler, or a pair of glasspacks. The flowmaster sounds tinny to be. Magnaflow sounds good as well.

For performance, glasspacks are the best, or equivalent. No backpressure.

Edelbrock old style mufflers (don't make them anymore, have to find them on Ebay or whatever) are the best muffler, period. No backpressure, amazing sound, and don't blow or burn out.

thanks i found some videos and i like the edelbrock. now i just have to find one

  3. Don't worry, both of these are fairly easy fixes you can do at your own house/garage. I've done a CV on the trail & seen hubs done on trials as well (or at least quick fixes to the hubs).

thanks it'll give me a chance to look at other things down there anyways.

  4. I am gonna go with Thrust turbo on my 88.... heard a local hard-body pickup with one here in town and it sounded pretty nice.... it was deep and rich sounding....

hmm i've never heard one of them before i'll have to look into that

  5. hey i have a 1993 nissan pathfinder v6. i want a real deep sounding exhaust and i'm not sure what to do.

ye i searched it but i was just tryin to get some other people opinion about it. but thanks

  6. Your CV joint needs replacing if it makes a clunking/popping noise when turning. In my mind this means that your 4x4 is engaging/wprling fine and your front axles should be getting power.

If your "puddle" adventure did not have front axle(s) turning then there is an additional issue like the tcase was not engaged properly or the hubs are not locking?

i think it's the hubs cause it sounded like tcase went in but there was no spinning. so i'll take it all apart and look if the hubs are worn out

  7. Backing up disengages 4x4, rolling forward engages it. It sounds like your auto locking hubs are crapped up. Unbolt them and look for anything broken, clean all parts and moderately grease them. Reassemble and retest.

It's a really simple job, you don't even have to remove the wheel. I highly recommend you get a service manual, any is better than none, and download the FSM available via link here.

well i'm thinking it's the CV's cause the boots are tore and it's making a popping noise when turning but i'll look into a service manual

  8. did you verify that BOTH front wheels weren't spinning, or did you only look at one of them?

if your boot is torn and your front end is popping and clunking in 4WD, then yes it's your CV.

well now that i think of it i only saw that my drivers side wasn't spinning but i didn't see any marks when i looked that would have shown if the passenger side was spinning. how can i be test to see if it's the cvs?

  9. probably the cv but you won't know unless you get down there and check it out.

as to 4x4.. did you actually pull the stick far enough? there are a couple of threads around here about how to 'shift it on the fly'.. may want to find them and review the procedure.

yeah i've read up on them before and it was fully engaged and after i got out it wouldn't go in no matter what. how can i tell if it's the cv?

  10. well today my truck decided that it wasn't gonna go into 4 wheel drive and i learned it wasn't the hard way. it sounded like it went in but i went through the puddle i always make through easy only my back wheels were goin. but luckily it was beside a road and someone stopped and pulled me out. policeman also stoped and i'm 15 and had friends buut he didn't ask any questions so it was all fine. but will any of the problems above cause it to not engage 4 wheel drive? i tried backing up 10 feet but it still didn't engage.

The CV boots are tore and sometimes it makes a loud popping noise in turns so i was wonderin if it was the cv axle..or maybe the hubs?

  11. oh ok one of my friends dad is a mechanic so he can help me with things like this.

  12. Nope my 87 was my first (well behind my bronco II that i had for 5 days and totaled) which I still have..I think I was a Junior in HS though but it may have been my sophomore year that I got it....All I know is I've had it 9 years now

    and Welcome!

dang thats pretty good. mine startin to come around with a few problems but nothin major.

  13. Not to hard, somewhere on the forum the proceedure is wrote up. Basic run through: remove wheel, remove hub, remove brake caliper, undo upper ball joint, remove bolts between CV and front diff, yank out the shaft and replace the boots.

oh ok one of my friends dad is a mechanic so he can help me with things like this.

  14. There are also a lot of NOAS memebers in NC that can probably hook you up withother little spots to hit.

i joined with them too so when i get my lift i'll get in touch with them. thanks

  15. /\ What he said.

Do you mean behind the wheel, like 3" in diameter, tapered and 5" long with a shaft going through it to the front differential? If so, these are your CV boots and sound like they are shot. They need to be replaced or your CV's will get chewed up from grit getting in. It won't affect anything if you do not use 4x4.

Yeah thats what i saw and i do use 4 wheel drive alot so i'll get them replaced..is it hard to do yourself?
