  1. well right now the pathfinder is only a farm truck...but it still gets drove everyday. even on the hottest days the pathfinder every now and then will turn on,run rough then cut off. then i start it back up and it runs fine

i also only get like 8 mpg and i smell exhaust fumes in and outside the truck

    any help would be appriciated

  2. well the pathfinder hasn't been inspected in 4 years and i want to get it inspected before i get my license. but i don't think the tires on it now will even pass and the next set i want is 33's after i lift it. will it pass inspection with a lift and bigger tires?

  3. mine if Full of Alaskan Malamutes. Just say "load up" and get out of the way. I can relate to the hair thing. With my dogs there oare only two seasons: hair and mud (and usually some combination of both)

i have an alaskan malamute/ yellow lab. he's all white and somehow ended up 30 pounds bigger than both of the breeds. he never lets me drive anywhere without lettin him in

  4. Is the entire truck up in the air and you're basically driving it up in the air...?

I'll just throw this in here, if the truck is being driven off the ground.

Left CV axle spins, but not the wheel: 1/2 of the axle is not spinning, is clicking and popping (outer part connecting to the wheel is not turning but the inner part connecting to the diff is turning), so no way to spin the wheel and lock the hub to tell if it's defective or not. If the entire axle is spinning, is clicking and popping anyways, and the wheel is not spinning, bad hub as well as the CV axle. Either way, new axle.

Right CV axle not spinning: bad diff or simply open differential woes.

Drop the truck onto the ground, and only lift the front end off the ground.

Spin the right wheel until the hub locks. If it locks, this should spin the left CV axle. If it doesn't, you have a diff problem. Manually turning a wheel will always spin the other wheel if everything is working properly. Not the case when using the vehicles own power to spin the wheels.

ok well i went out and did as you said. the hub and the axle is broken on the left side. the right side the hub wouldn't click in at all. so it must be broken too.

  5. Is this simply an open rear diff? There maybe nothing wrong there....

I suggest ignoring the rear axle completely until you get all the front axle issues sorted out. Keep focused, one thing at a time.

yeah thats what my dad said too and yes it is an open diff. this summer i'll put lockers on them though

  6. HUH?

    Ok i'm confusiin myself too.

Lets start with the front, left CV axle. it is spinning. but it's not spinning the wheel. the joint that attaches the axle to the wheel is broken and clicking.

Now the right front CV. the axle did not spin at all anywhere. and the wheel is not spinning

the left back wheel just moved a little at the begginning then stopped moving

the right back wheel spun constantly.

  7. The rear wheels don't spin if you spin the front wheels.

So you spun the left wheel with 4 wheel drive engaged, and the right side didn't spin at all? Did the inner part of the axle spin and not the outer? Was the entire axle still?

Was the entire left axle spinning, or just one half? If only one half, that would simply mean that the axle is shot, obviously, and not connecting to the differential. If the entire axle was spinning, and the other side was completely still, that could be a bigger problem.

Spinning one wheel should spin the other in the opposite direction, unless LSD or locked.

But then again, there's the thing with the popping and binding. So something is working...

ok well NONE of the right front axle moved at all. but the left front axle spinned but it wasn't turning the wheel. they joint at the wheel was just clicking and it looked broken. the transmission case clicks in so it's not that. but in 2 or 4 wheel drive the back left tire wouldn't move it. the back right one was spinning normally but at most the left on just wiggled a little.

  9. hello, this is for a 1997 4x4 R50.

sorry, but kinda long. searched but no exact luck. :(

yesterday i installed new kyb gr2 fronts struts and monroe senstrac rear shocks... anyways while doing the driver side front strut i noticed the outer cv boot was torn. so after i installed all the new components i drove to the parts store to get a new cv boot. side note ... way better drive with the new suspension and none of these problems existed after i installed the new shocks/struts.

so after i get home from the parts store with the new outer cv boot, i installed the new outer cv boot by removing the axle and what not. i reinstalled everything and now i have some kind of light constant thumping/ticking noise when i drive... tick tick tick tick tick kinda sound. the sound is constant no matter if i turn left or right or stopping while driving.

ALSO i get a second LOUD rubbing noise that sounds like the caliper or brake pad is warped or imbalanced and brake pad is hitting a wobbling caliper. not a metal to metal scraping sound but an "UR UR UR UR UR UR UR" kind of sound. this sound goes away when i make a right turn and does not go away during braking.

i took a look at it this morning and noticed that weather/dust shield was bent and making contact with the caliper. straightened the shield, took it for a quick spin, both noises are still there. then inspected the brakes and they seemed fine, even took off the caliper thinking the shims could be off. reinstalled the brakes and took it for a spin and still the same noise.

did i screw up cv axle installation or something? every appears fine and nothing is loose. is there some kind of special way to replace the boot that is model specific for the R50? the old boot was about 6 inches long, and the new boot is about 4 inches.

I did notice that the lower ball joint (i think that is what it is, connects the bottom of the caliper to the suspension arm) was leaking a bit of grease, but my dad said that wouldn't cause the noise. Driving the car feels fine, and only problem is the annoying noise. the best search result i found was repacking of the wheel bearing?? i doubt that would be it though.

    any help please?

i just jacked uo my truck today to luck at my cvs and one of the one's that was broken made a loud clicking noise. but the cvs shouldn't be turning if you're in 2 wheel drive. You sure the hubs are unlocked?

  10. well today i jacked it up and the front left cv joint next to the wheel was definetely broken and clicking loudly. the right front axle wasn't even turning at all so idk whats up there. But something new,the back right tire didn't turn at all. which wasn't expected.would that have to deal with th differential?

  11. alright so i know the pathfinders are bad for rust and i'm starting to notice surface rust on by back axle and frame..i've read up about it and saw all about bedliner but is there a certain way i have to prep the metal and what all should i be covering with it?

is there anything i need to take off?

and i'm also thinkin about takin out the carpet and puttin bedliner down there. good or bad idea.

    thanks for help
