  1. My check engine light is on too! It's just the EGR though so I ain't worried about it. My EGR tends to get gummed up with carbon deposits, it usually cleans itself out after a couple of weeks.

Anyways UNCC cell service is spotty around Hollister, depending on your service company. Generally though the main rest area (by the 4x4 obstacle course) has several bars of service for me (Verizon). There is a cell tower on the property near the top of Hector Heights, so you can get full service up there usually.

Bring along an FRS radio if you've got one. We usually use channel 8. I might pick up a hand held battery power CB radio at the flea market this weekend too.

  2. Count me (and the GF riding copilot) in. I don't much care about the Stupor Bowl anyways. We'll only be staying for the day though, no camping.

Anyone want to help install the CV joints UNCC is (hopefully) bringing for me? We can either swap them in before we hit the trails, or wait until one breaks :crossedwires: Maybe they won't break at all...

Anyways at the very least we'll act as photo/videographers.

  3. SC are the 88 CV's the same as the 87 (i'm not sure when they changed the # of bolts on the FA) if they're the same...I think this weekend i'll be starting to pull the engine out of my 87 and I could throw those CVs in my truck and if you had a blowout i'll have all the tools in the truck to change on on the trail. If you want to buy them off of me thats an option too. I will also have some warn manual locking hubs for sale soon too

I'd love to buy them off you, but money is real tight right now, I'll have to see.

AFAIK 87-89 all used the same CV joints.

  4. Thanks everyone for helping make this a great Secret Santa exchange!

So here's the list of who had who: (highlight to view)

    MY1PATH > Slick > Redfinder/Adamzan/ :redfinder: > unccpathfinder > Bowtied > Dowser > Vengeful > TerranoNZ > 88pathoffroad > beastpath > laxman0324 > Pezzy > GrimGreg > FUELER > RedPath88 > MadManMike > k9sar > MY1PATH

  5. I bought the MGS4 bundle with my PS3, played through it once, meh... pretty....

One FPS I would like to get, just because I like some comedy im my gaming, is Battlefield Bad Company, though I'm still hesitant becaue the demo was more of the boring BS I hate from FPSs.

    Get Resistance and Resistance 2

Best FPS's on the PS3 right now no question

Or if you want something that's a little different from your typical FPS with a lot of good comedy and a kick ass story get Uncharted. It's basically Indiana Jones the Video Game (classic Indiana Jones, not that giant turd crystal skull).

  6. Why don't the kids like the PS Triple?

Anyways yup I'v got a PS3. My PSN ID is IamTetsuo

When I play online I usually play Rock Band or Soul Calibur 4. I don't play online much though as my current internet connection is kind of laggy.

I got Eternal Sonata for Christmas though so once I wrap up Oblivion (I still haven't finished the main quest, been having too much fun with the side quests) I'll be playing ES for a while.

My collection right now is: Eternal Sonata, Soul Calibur IV, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Rock Band, GTA IV, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Warhawk, and Resistance. I used to have Devil May Cry 4 but I sold it because I never play it.

  7. Honestly you don't need new torsion bars for a suspension lift unless you're planning on adding a heavy bumper (like the ARB bumper). The stock torsion bars can handle a suspension lift no problem.

I would check to see if there is another site besides 4x4 Parts that will ship internationally (4x4parts doesn't have the best record when it comes to customer service). All you really need for the suspension lift is new Upper Control Arms, shocks, and springs for the rear. Maybe see if there is a member here willing to have the items shipped to them and then shipping them to you.

    And welcome to NPORA!

  8. Welcome!

I'm also from Santa Cruz (actually I live in Felton, I just say Santa Cruz because more people know where that is  ) It's always good to see new local members! You'll probably see me driving around Santa Cruz, I'm often in town (just look for a dirty old dark red pathy with a full size spare)

You should come with us to the next Hollister run, even if your truck is mainly going to be for ski trips. It's fun to see just how capable your truck really is :aok:

  9. gotta agree with crazyhayseed......if you're gonna spend 5 bills or more on that old beast you might as well find some thing cheaper on fuel and more reliable.........now if you were to make it in to a shaggin waggin.....

No way am I gonna spend 5k on it! At least at first...

I'v determined if it seems like it will take more than $1000 to get it in decent running condition I'll put the using it for a job idea on hold. It is a pretty cool old van though, and now I kind of want to get it going again just because

  10. Went and took a better look at it today.

According to the doorjamb it's a 74, and according to the badging it's an E-100 Supervan. Also looks like some four legged furry guests took up residence as evidenced by the brown ovals that certainly weren't raisins.

Lots of interior clean up to do

On a somewhat related note dropped my resume off at a bank today. Apparently they're opening a new branch, so fingers crossed...

  11. You've answered your own questions, then. You can rebuild a carb for a few $ with a kit, or have it done. "Wonky emissions stuff" would probably have to be kept and/or installed for Cali certification, but that's no biggie. The mileage sounds about right, and won't get much better regardless, cause you're still driving a big V8 brick down the road. It still sounds ok in my book, though.

It's a pre-75 vehicle so it is emissions exempt :D

  12. I'v been doing research about the van most of the night.

This particular van seems to get around 12-15mpg stock, which can be improved with headers, carb tweaking, e-fan conversion, etc

The carb is what I'm mostly worried about, as dad thought that might have been leaking too, and because Ford installed some kind of wonky emissions stuff

Thinking it might be best to convert to a new intake manifold and new carb (probably get better fuel efficiency that way too)

  13. So I was searching Craigslist for job openings (the only people that anyone wants to hire right now is highly experienced people apparently...) and stumbled upon a job for a courier van driver

The catch is you've got to have your own van. So I got to thinking hey I do have a van? Hey I do have a van! Well sort of...

It's an older Ford Econoline. Early 70's make. 302 V8, auto, horrid 70's olive green paint. I think it's an E-100, and has the SuperVan badging. It used to be my grandpas, and has pretty much been parked ever since he passed.

Obviously it needs some work. The last time my dad tried to get it started (a couple of years ago), he found out it had a leaky fuel line the hard way when the gas caught fire. Fire didn't do any damage as they got it put out really quick. So obviously all of the the fuel lines would need to be replaced, and all other lines would need to be checked for cracks.

The interior needs some love, the headliner is falling down. However grandad's custom wooden shelving is still all in good condition.

Grandpa backed into something at some point, so there's damage to the rear bumper and quarter panel on the passenger side.

And obviously it needs all new tires, as they are all flat, and not a single one matches. (Grandpa had MT's installed on the rear tires for better traction driving around our property, but each one is a different brand with wildly different tread patterns).

Oh and it needs a serious washing, there's lichen growing on it in spots!

So am I crazy? Is this the worst idea ever?

Here's an artsy photo my girlfriend took of it, where you can see the back up damage
