  1. You will need a VG33 air box lid and MAF. OffroadX got me a couple VG33 and VG30 connectors to play with so we can disect them and see what makes things tick. Once we're ready to try something, we'll leave the stock (VG30) plug in place and splice in a VG33 Wire/connector. That way I can go back anytime I want to or need to.

Apologies for the bad grammer in the first post, These dell laptops have a finicky space bar adn apparently I didn't read it 2x before posting :)

  2. Can someone with a 94 or 95 pathy please pull your fog light switch and note the order of the wires. I buggered mine up trying to see why it stopped working and foolishly didn't write down the order :furious: The FSM does not have a diagram for the switch.

    Thanks!

  3. Has any one swapped a VG33 MAF on to a VG30 engine? I have the 33 MAF adn filter box lid and some extra VG30 and 33 connectorsto play with. I want to make sure I put the wires onto the correct connectors. If some's done it I haveno problem taking the easy way out.

  4. I did a write up on the procedure 2 years abo, its in the "How To" section, or just go here http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=255

I think it took us about 4 hours doing it the first time. Since then I've replaced both sides once. It now takes about an hour and 10 min. (includes getting the tools out)

Be sure to look for a spacer that *might* come off with the offending axle. You'll need it when you put the new one on.

You can usually find a "nused" CV on Ebay. If its an open auction...well I got one once for $25 to my door. The last one was more than that but it only had 42K one it : B)

  5. Buy more hose, you'll need quite a bit more than they give you. Get about 12 feet, better to have and not need than to need and not have. I'd suggest mountung it in front of the AC condensor so you'll get the most benefit out of it.

I had one of those for a year ot two then I switched to a B&M stacked plate design which is more ridged than the aluminium fins onthe Derail type.

    It'll "git r done" though.

You'll want to be prepaired to unscrew the upper radiator mounts to be able to reach behind the condensor to attach the push fittings. I was never able to mount the bottom ones and it held on fine.

You'll route the hose thru where the insulating foam rubber is along the side of the radiator next to the coolent bottle.

Oh, and be sure to mark which hose is "in" and which is "out" in case you ever want to add a tranny filter.

  6. One other option would to be to add an extra friction disk to each side of your LSD clutch pack. Its easy enough (tho time consuming) to remove the third member and pull out the chunck, crack it open ans add disks.

95 and earlier Pathy LSD's have a breakaway torque spec of around 300ft lbs. The new Xterras and Frontiers have a spec of 50lbs....A buddy of mine added springs from a Pathfinder clutch pack to his Xterra LSD and it tightened it up very nicely while still providing some differential action...pretty much brought it to the high end of a 95 Pathy spec.

  7. I've heard "talk" that it may be possible to shoehorn in an MAF off a VG3.3 BUT someone needs to find the voltage specs to see if it be comaptable...then someone needs to see if one will actually fit in the space we have or come up w/ an easy fab to install it.

Probably easiest to A) put a bunch of electric grease on the connector and see if that helps adn/or B) pull on in a parts garden and try that one and see what happens.

  8. Hey grim, hows that electric fan workin?

I haven't been wheeling much since TN but I have been busy...I got an LSD up front thanks to a wrecked 300zx turbo :) Goes right up hills, no waiting.

    Later man, see ya around.

  9. Soo, a couple weeks ago I'm buying gas like I do *every* week and I push the little trop-o-meter to reset and go on my merry way...A couple miles later I notice that the trip meter isn't turning, its happened before, no biggie...I just tap the reset again.

The I notice that not only does nothing happen but the Odometer isn't ticking over either.

    @!*%e.

Any suggestions before I yank one out of a yard?

It really doesn't matter toooo much since I plan to drive this rig into the ground but still, I want it to work, and being lazy, I'd rather not have to try too hard to fix it.

  10. Geez, ya get involved with stuff and then a couple months have passed.

Well, I did get something done while I've been offline...I got a 300zx turbo LSD installed int he front of my Pathy. Man that thing is suhweet! it just goes and goes. No stiff steering, just traction when you needs it where you needs it.

  11. The 350 swap alot of work but would be fun to try to do that would mean a new tranny and engine and then retro fit drive shafts/ the rear end would everntaully have to be beefed up major to not have it shred and blow on you

Whoa man, our H233b's are bigger than a ford 9" and beefier than a D44, no need to replace that. As for a 350 swap they are out there, advance adapters makes some of the stuff you'll need Agressive offroad in Fl makes a "kit" (overstatement) but I can't find their site right now.

If you need steering tho why not just get a Calmini system. I have one and kicks butt big time.

There is a site that says a 92 Pathy scored over 500 on the RTI, www.offroaders.com/info/tech-corner/rti.htm

no need to go to all that "pimp work" and expense, just take off your sway bar.

  12. The R&P's don't swap. Just the diff carrier. You need to get one from a 300ZX Turbo between 87 and 89 but NOT the all white special edition. If you're looking at a boneyard, it'll have a finned rear diff cover on it. It needs to be installed in your dif housing which means setting the gears. The gears on it are usually 3.7's

You'll see 'em on Ebay sometimes but they usually go for over $400, the ricers have deep pockets. At that price its cheaper to get one from Calmini. If you get one from a junkyard you'll need to have the locknut removed from your old diff and installed in the replacement.

There are a couple ricer sites online which mention the swap and the dates for the vehicles to yank them from, They like 'em because you can install them in the old 280 Z's and other such that never had that as an option.

I know what I need to do ...just need to save $$$ to get it done since I don't have the tools or the time to set it up.

  13. Wellll Jeeps (Ie Wranglers and the CJ"s are very capable. Lookit how many Pathys, Fronteers, and X's are going solid. Jeeps are generally capable thats due to the solid front axle tho their reliability in other ways leaves much to be desired.

Pulling stuck jeeps is lots of fun. Especially the ones who say they'd need a "real 4wd" to get them out. I remember a guy in a Jeep of some sort who'd dug himseld in pretty good a the enterence of the Oregon Inlet fishing area....all soft sand. He wasnted to wait until someone with a real 4wd came along. I told him That if thats what he wanted to that'd be fine by me as I wouldn't have to lock in to 4wd if I wasn't gonna yank him.

Still, I wish we had half the jeep aftermarket. They do have lots of goodies.

  14. Geez 4 hunnerd and something for CV replacement. 8 something? What a ripoff!

The last one I replaced, I got the replacement for on Ebay for $25 plus shipping (I have another spare I got for $15 and shipping)

You don't have to take the rotor etc off to replace a CV on a Pathy. Better still you can do it in a little over an hour if you have a buddy helping you out. If the moderators want, I can prepare write up.

  15. Hmm My experience with my LSD has been different. I have 111K miles on it and it locks very well. The Early (95 back) LSD's have a breakaway torque of like 280 ftpounds, the Xterras are about 180 BWAHAHAHAHA Hahahaha haha Whoooo

Anyway I use Amsoil 75W90 no modifier and I get plenty of lock....when parking on grass you can usually see a line where the inside tire dragged. In parking you can feel/hear the clutches slipping. The trick to keeping that lock is to not let up on the gas (or do so very slowly)

You can get clutches. Nissanparts.cc sells them for around $27 plus shipping, I don't have the part # handy tho. Your dealer can get 'em for you. I'd suggest just adding a clutch to either side over replacing them all, it'd be price as there are 5 to a side. If you just do one each it'll cost less and you'll get a hellacious lock.
