  1. Yeah, I had to open up the transmisssion twice on my 95 after an accident and traded it in with no working tranmission when they said they would basically give me the parts for free since the labor was so high (like $1500). I had not seen anyone indicate that the R50's had any tranny issues, but I will start to look into taking some preventative measures. I've got 80,000 miles on my 98, so I think it would still do some good and extend the life, I really would like to keep it for a long time.
  2. So, if I have a 98 SE that did not come with a tow hitch or tow package, can I just adda hitch and be good to go, or are there other things that the tow package came with to make towing safer, better, easier (ie. different brakes, oil or transmission coolers, wiring) just wondering. I don't plan on doing heavy towing (probably want to rent a UHAUL for moving within the next year and possible some toys in the future)
  3. I have recently started to hear an od squealing, almost a troaty hissing coming from the front of my 98 Pathfinder SE with 80,000 miles on it. I thought it could be brake related, at first, stepping on the brakes would make it stop. I pulled a twig out of my brakes yesterday, but that did not solve the problem, unlesss there is anything else stuck in there. Squeling does not increase in volume with speed or anything like that. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything lie this and what the outcome/solution was. Thanks in advance. -Tim
  4. I've got a 98 auto with 31's and I determined a 15.0-something per mile earlier today for a half tank of mixed highway, town and 4 wheel drive. I was less than impressed.
  5. I'm in englewood 80110 1998 Pathfinder SE with 76,000 miles Might be looking for help with some front and rear spacers in the future. Would love to watch and learn, get me hands dirty and drink some beer.
  6. well either way, im probably going to pick up a 98 with 83,000 miles, XE, auto, LSD sooner rather than later, Im taking it over to a shop today to get it looked at, When test driving it, it had a strange sound from the front when turning only, so I will see what they say about that
  7. I new the 95's had locking issues like that, got locked out 30 miles from home in a blizzard with the truck running and had to catch a ride home to get the key and get back before it ran out of gas, but I did not think the newer ones had issues. Theres got to be a way to set something up, even if its manual, maybe that will be a god project.
  8. So the only way to open the window is from the back with the key?
  9. Quick dumb question for you. Is there a way to open the rear window from the driver's seat in the 1998 as you could in the 1995's? I was looking at a 1998 XE and could not find the button. Thank you.
  10. yeah I chewed up the transmission in my 1st 95 finder, but that is becasue it was in an accident and should have been totalled. It was not the smoothest, but I think I need to take ti out for another drive to see how it is acting.
  11. Hey everyone, I am seriously considering a 95 with 103K miles. It has the automatic transmission, which I am a little nervous about. What should I expect as far as performance and maintenance go. It needs new tires. I will need to switch out the trans cooler (any estimate on price on this one). The suspension seemed fine, but likely needs some work. I'm going to take it to a mechanic before purchase to make sure there is nothing I am missing. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Tim
  12. So it sounds like you do not recommend the Pro Comp Shocks in the rear then. Anyting specific?
  13. How do you know if a used Pathfinder has a limited slip in the rear. I understand it came on some of the SE models with the tire carrier on the rear. I am most interested in 97's through 99's. I know I could take it out into the snow and wail on it and see if a tire spins out or something like that or checking the vin #, but was hoping there woudl be a way to tell just by looking at the dif. Thanks in advance.
  14. Thanks for the input, thats a sweet rig you have there. Its good to hear that the axles are burly enough to take some beatings. It sound so far like the manual tranny is a little more bullet proof than the auto and I would likely go that way. I need to try it out though and make sure I like the manual. I hear a lot of people saying to just switch out the springs and shocks for longer than stock to get up to 31's or 32's, could you also jsut space it out and get things under there. I guess you would not have the articulation, but like I said I'm not doing anything crazy yet, just crossing ditches and getting up mild offroad trails. Wondering what the success of that would be maybe as an intermediate step on the way to 33's with some major suspension work (and after I had it paid off a long way down the road). Antero was great. We were up there and I was like "we have an 1/8 of a tank to get all the way down?" well at least it was downhill. We took the jeep over tincup pass with a tacoma and an Exploder 4th of July weekend ths year. Burels. The jeep was awsome, but thats all it was good for you know. There just wasn't enough room to car camp in style, and thats really what I am about. Well thanks for your input and I will check back for any updates.
  15. Hey everyone, sorry I went ahead and posted in the 96+ forum already, but thought I should stop in and say hi. I had an 95XE and drove it from 64K to about 110K, great truck and my first car. Like I said, I only got rid of it after getting stuck in the field twice and shelling out the 1000 bucks to open up the auto tranny, due to an accident. I'm considering trading in my wrangler for a 98 or 99 and stopped in to check your forums for info. Thank you very much by the way. There are not too many Pathfinder sites out there and this one is pretty great. I would definitely like to get back into a Pathfinder. I would rather pay less for a car thats going to last forever, than pay more for a car (the jeep) that I worry is going to break down all the time.
