  1. Well, I ordered four Old Man Emu springs and rear shocks (Medium) for my '02. For the front struts, I ordered the KYB GR2 struts and I will be using new Nissan bearings and my existing mounting plates. I'm having the work done by a really good Nissan mechanic here. Man, I cannot wait to get all this stuff in- the KYBs are on their way but the OME stuff MAY take a week or two longer. Pretty soon, I'll say goodbye to a saggy rear suspension and say hello to a firmer but more capable ride.

  4. That is good to hear- I will replace all four springs, put OME shocks and KYB struts on BUT I'm a little confused regarding strut bearings. I have read some posts where posters say that the Nissan bearings are preferable/more reliable. Where do the bearings go in referance to the struts? How much do those Nissan bearings cost? Once I get up to denver this week and get settled in, I'll start looking for a good shop. I can probably do the back but I'm not mechanically inclined or experienced enough to tackle the front. Of course, if any of you Pathy owners have done this and want to help me out, I'll pay you for your time.
  5. Well, I have the money together now so it's time to either do a lift and replace the springs, shocks, struts, etc. OR just slap some OME springs on (.5" - 1") lift and replace the shocks/struts. What are the components that will wear quicker if I do the 2 or 3 inch lift? This online store in FL has a $695 package with Bilstein Shocks, custom springs, KYB GR2 struts, and towers (I guess for the struts). Where do the bearings come in- are the Nissan bearings a better bet and how much do they cost? Are the KYB struts any firmer or is is hard to tell the diff? So my questions are: With the lift, I prefer Nissan bearings- how much are those and where do they fit? Is it just the CV joints that wear quicker with a lift? I don't mind just the OME "lift"- is that a more reliable option? How does the KYB GR2 strut ride? Is it a lot different than stock? As always, thanks for the help and advice.   6. I hope you don't have a big dog I do like the setup- nice job. I love the fact that it is now inside the vehicle. Do you have disc brakes? I don't think you do but that makes it harder to mess with the wheels. I ordered a Thule Expressway hitch rack but your way is obviously more secure and hidden. Now I don't leave my bike on the rack unattended but if I did, I'd use my Abus lock. They will have to cut the bike rack off first. Oddly enough, I don't miss my roof rack at all. I also don't miss driving into my garage with the bike on it.
  7. I have a 2002 LE and I love it. I just wish they had easier/more available aftermarket options available. The older Pathy is too rough for my need for creature comforts- since I can only aford one vehicle. The main disdvantage is that the front struts are only provided by KYB (and it sucks that they use struts, not shocks, in the first place). We need some tougher springs, shocks, strus, skid plates, and we are good to go on most trails. I love the smooth and relatively powerful, yet understressed motor. I have been somewhat frustrated by the lack of aftermarket products though, enough to make me start thinking about the 4Runner (darn, I said it, didn't I? ) Part of the problem is that the XTerra came out and that's the offroad SUV for Nissan. This Board is great and the guys make the most of their newer Pathys.
  8. That is a good deal. With every option available (assuming it is a 4x4), here are the values: $12,696 - Dealer Trade-In $14,902 - Private Party Sale $17,267 - Dealer Retail I think a price around $12K is really good. The figures above are for an outstanding condition 4x4 from Edmunds. I'd check KBB as well. KBB tends to be a bit lower. Either way, I think that's a really good deal for a really clean Pathy. loaded as it is. The high mileage isn't for me since I keep my vehicles for years but if you're okay with it, go for it.
  9. I'll look for fender flares again. I searched for an hour online yesterday with no luck. The tires are a little too tall so they rub when backing up and turning at the same time. I'm sure they reduce the clearance too but on top of that, they are now messing up my paint- no positives here- well, I take that back since the traction is awesome

  11. Well, it's my only vehicle- it's not primarily a toy. I take clients and high-level execs out to lunch and stuff. The condition of my vehicle reflects on my level of professionalism. That's part of the reason I got a 2002 LE and not an older Pathy to just play with. I need a nice vehicle while not going overboard on the pose factor. Anyway, I see your point but I'm obviously failing to communicate mine. Anyone want to buy 16-inch steel wheels and AT Revo tires that have less than 2K miles on them? If so, make sure you live in CO cuz these will cost a furtune to ship
  12. Well, it's not dirt or mud I'm complaining about. it's tiny specks of asphalt or something that doesn't come off after washing it- really well. It seems to be embedded in my clearcoat and YES, I suppose I am being a little sensitive. I'm picky that way and I'll try to do better because you probabaly have a point. In the meantime, I'll remain a bit sensitive -bounce-
  13. So far, I've had no luck finding wider fender flares for my 02.
  14. A couple of months ago, I bought some 16 inch black steel rockcrawler wheels and some Bridgestone Revo tires. I love the tires/wheels but they are a bit taller than stock and I think the wheels are backspaced a bit more. So, though they look and ride great, they are thowing fine road debris onto my side panels. I was washing my car and some of the debris had to be scraped off with my nail- the wash mitt was not removing it. I probably have to claybar the thing each time now. Well, that is bothering me since the paint is so new and nice. Is there anything I can do like put on bigger mudflaps or something? If not, I'm probably going to sell the wheels/tires and go with tires that fit my stock 17 rims. The 17-inch stock rims limit my choices in tires but I can't stand the thought of all this road grime being imbedded in my clearcoat. If I have to sell them, so be it. I'm moving from my house to an apartment in Colorado next month so storage space is going to become an issue anyway.
  15. I have an LE with the "Auto" option and have used it a few times. It isn't as good as 4Hi when stomping around but it hasn't fishtailed on me in the snow or ice and works pretty well. It has a split second response lag but I love using it on the highway when it's snowing/icing bad. Maybe you need the Revo tires to dress it up in With those on, you will be better off than with anything else.
  16. I replaced my Bose with a Sony higher-end head unit, and it sounded as bad as stock (adapter was needed). Anyway, then I trew in my amp and sub and the amp (with stock speakers) made a HUGE diference. In fact, I may not replace my spekers till one of them blows up eventually. I'm not sure if that will happens cuz I'm not really a ghetto boy.
  17. Yup, it would be the Tundra or Titan for me I drove all but the new Ford and the Titan and Tundra felt way better and less jittery in 2WD mode. I hear the Ford drives well but that's the one I have not driven. Even if it drove as well that the Tundra, I would not buy it. I just can't afford the $$ and stress of things breaking down. If I made $200K a year, I may not care but I have to care at this point. What I do appreciate is that people love their Chevys, Fords, and Dodges. I always like that and don't put them down. It's pretty cool how passionate guys can get about their trucks, especially the American brands.
  18. If I had to buy a truck right now, I'd go for a 4-door Tundra. It's smooth as a car and the ride is great. It doesn't tow as much as the others but I don't tow anything and it can still tow whatever most people would want to. They do need to update it though. My second choice would be the Titan. The Ford is the coolest and has a really nice interior but Ford's revcall's are scary. I would probabaly go with the Chevy after that. I almost bought a black Z71 but the seats were so uncomfortable, I backed off after my second test drive. Then I ended looking at the Tundra and Pathy and bought the Pathy due to its greater versatility and the fact that a truck bed isn't as useful to me as fold-flat enclosed back seats. My rankings since I keep my vehicles for a while and I DETEST visiting dealers/service departments: Tundra/Titan Chevy Dodge Ford
  19. I'm moving to Colorado and I'm probabaly a novice mt biker. I just sold my hardtail GT and bought a Yeti ASR-SL. I'll be riding a lot once I get to CO- that and I take my dog on walks/hikes. Any spare time will find me ragting and taking up Fly Fishing.
  20. Well, on my FZ1, the dyno with a regular filter and a K&N was identical so their power clim is a bit shady. Plus, I've read a lot of reviews and tests where they say an oil-soaked foam filter only filters better for a week or so- after that, it's all clogged up and gets progressively worse airflow- moreso than a paper filter. I've used K&N oil filters and they are poorly constructed so I'm staying away from all K&N stuff. I'd say use a high-quality paper air filter. For oil filters, Amsoil, Mobil1, and Baldwin are very high quality- I think the Baldwin is the best, followed by the other two.
  21. Well, I love the look of the Dodge and I like the look of the Titan a bit less. Reliabilty rating for the Titan may be rolling in now but like most Dodge/Chrysler vehicles, the reliability of the Doge (relatively speaking) SUCKS. If you lease or plan on keeping it for a couple of years, buy what looks better. They will both do the same hting well. If you buy to keep it for a long time, I'd lean towards the Titan. However, if the reliabilty edge doesn't matter (remember, in this case, the Titan's reliability isn't 100% proven), then go with the Dodge. Overall, the length of ownership would be the deciding factor for me- in this specific case.
  22. Did you just replace the springs in front or the struts as well? Also, would you please describe the difference in ride? Is it a lot firmer and bouncy or just a little firmer? The stock springs are obviously a bit too soft but the ride on the highway is quite nice. How do the new springs ride on the highway and in the city? Sorry for a million questions but I'm getting ready to do the same thing in a month or two.
  23. Well, if you replace your front strut springs with OME springs, that should raise your front almost as much if not exactly as much as they did your truck's rear.
  24. I have the same system with my 2002 Pathfinder LE. In fact, I would not have bought a 4x4 if it didn't have the AWD option. However, mine runs perfectly and I've used all the options- AWD, 4Hi, 4Lo, and 2WD. I don't notice any noise or excessive vibrations. Has your Service Dept driven it recently? Go with them on a test drive and see what they say. I have no technical 4x4 knowledge so I'm of no help here :confused: Of course, I did get another post out of it
