  1. I just want to let the people that have emailed me, and the ones that read the above post, that i am unable to email the shop manual for the 1997 pathfinder. I am having troubles attaching the file and emailing it. Im really sorry for this, it was intended to be an easier and quicker way to share my information. Sorry once again. Pathfinder Rookie
  2. Well you can get new bushings for it but they are a %$#ch to press out and in... lots of lube is the key. The bushings will run you about $20 a piece x8. That is from Nissan and the only guaranty them for 50,000km. Apparently you can get polyurethane bushings now, defiantly look into this if you plan on off roading. The whole control arms are about $160 and there are 4 of them, Shop around though I found these for 120ea, and I was only able to get then from the (S)tealership. You are looking at about 4 hours to put them in, plus you need new nuts and bolts, because you will more than likely need to torch the old ones out. If you do end up torching careful you don’t blow through the mounts, cause then you’ll have to weld it back. Hope this helps some, Cheers and good hunting. Pathfinder Rookie
  3. 1997 Pathfinder SE I remember reading about a transfer case lock for pathfinders, but I don’t remember where I read it or if it was for the R50. Does anyone have this or has heard about one. The reason im asking is that this weekend I was climbing snow hill in parking lots and my four wheel drive wasn’t working properly. If I was to stop at the base of the hill and slowly try to drive up it in 4x4, my driver’s front tire would spin while the others just sat there. But in reverse I had not problem. This continued with diagonal wheels spinning together while the other two did not. Once again in reverse I had no problems. Is this something common to Pathys or is something going on? Oh and apparently if you do this in Ontario you can get charged for destruction of property. Thanks Pathfinder Rookie
  4. No man, I does it when im just under 80 km/h at maybe 78km/h, but I know what u r talking about, and its not that. And im a little pissed that they have poly busing now I looked everywhere for some, I found a company that would make them for me but I had to order 20,000 of each… ah NO thanks. But ya I don’t know what I could be im thinking about taking the bell housing cover off this weekend just to take a look inside, if nothings there ill clean it up nice and put some new oil in, cant hurt it ant right?
  5. i dont think that it would be a fuse problem, i would suspect that it would be your speedo cable. Unscrew it from the back of your speedo or from your transmission and look to see if its worn out or broke, the square part at the end usually brakes, give it a pull it should slide out. if it slides out inspect the other side, if its okay clean it, and lube it, and put it back. Next check the speedo itself, make sure that nothing that drives the speedo is worn. Just to let you know im not and expert on the older pathys but hopefully this can give u a start. 6. Hey man I have a 1997 pathy and have a similar problem to what you have posted. I found that if you put your fan to high and turn your temperatue dial all the way to hot or cold depending what you want. Wait a bit till you hear a difference in air flow (about 3 seconds) then put your temperature dial to the setting you want. This dosen’t always work for me, but it works the majority of the time. (now I also had a problem with the wires in the back of my deck not allowing the dials to turn under the dash, this could be a possibly) Pathfinder Rookie
  7. No its not when i engage the 4WD, the clunk happen only when im in 2WD but it sounds and feels the same as when you put it into 4WD with the wheels spinning slightly. Sorry hope this clarify my previous post.
  8. I just want to take a second to thank merlinx for the posting for the service manual sites. And I want to let 1997 Pathy owners that I have a copy of the 1997 Service manual in a file that I can try to email to members that are interested in getting a copy of the 1997 manual. Drop me a line at fluorescent_black@hotmail.com with Pathfinder Manual in the subject line, and I will try to check my mail daily and reply to you with a copy of my file. You will need to have a copy of Adobe Reader 6.0 to view the file, and about 40MB of inbox space. Hope this will work. Pathfinder Rookie
  9. 1997 Pathfinder SE 4x4 Has anyone experienced an abnormal shift like clunk as if you engaged the 4WD while the rear tires were still spinning a bit? This has happen 3 times now, each time the temperature was about -5C to -10C with a light coating of snow about 1cm, and I was at a coasting speed of just under 80km/h. It is not something that is consistent, and it catches you off guard which is not good driving in snow. Its only been within the last week and a half and I was wondering if this is some thing that needs to get looked at ASAP or don’t worry about it at all. Oh and thinking that maybe I hit a patch of ice I went back about five times trying to get it to do it again but nothing. Any Suggestions or explanation to what this could be? Thanks In Advance: Pathfinder Rookie
  10. I already toped the fluid up about ½ an once, it got rid of the light but no difference in braking. I figured that I would have to remove some fluid when I replace the pads. I’ll take it out from the bleed screw just to get the screws moving. Thanks for the help.
  11. Ha thats funny i do live on a hill, well forced park on one any ways. and ill check the level of my fluid when i go out later today. Thanks.
  12. 1997 Pathfinder: When I first start up my truck and drive in down the road from my house the e-brake light comes on. If I come to a stop it goes away. It wont come on at all during the day when im driving in the city. But on the way back down my road it does it again. Its also done it when I was driving through the field on my other property. Ive giggled the handle but it wont go out I have to come to a complete stop. There is no drag on the truck just the light is on. Has anyone experienced something like this? Its not a problem its just weird . (Sorry if I don’t respond soon… hard to get online)
  13. Hey Guys. I was wondering if anyone has a wheel bearing for a 1997 pathfinder that they can get the number off of for me. the dealership wont help me they say i cant replace them with any aftermarket ones . Need the number before i take it all apart so i cant get the new ones from the local bearing shop. Thanks in advance.
  14. Holly @!*% man thats a lot of work to tackle in a day, nicely done. I got to get my timing bent change, as well as look at my oil pump cover to cover clearance, while im under there. I hope your buddy got you a case of beer while you were workin. Now that you have that Hanes manual get your buddy to read Chapter 1 on tune up and regular maintenance.
  15. Ya i thought that it would look better black after i installed it, it was originally meant to have been diamond plate but it was a bitch to bend, so i just used a piece of 20 gauge aluminum. ill either paint it or cut a piece of diamond plate to put on top as a cover with some screws for looks. I just used a set of sunpro gauges i had lyin around the garage, originally for my sled, but got a better use for them now. Vengeful why dont you use the pop outs that are just below the gauges where the cigarette lighter is for switches?
  16. I wanted to install some gauges into my 1997 pathfinder, but couldnt find the A pillar pods up here, so i decided to make my own in dash gauge pod. Let me know what you guys think.
  17. Ya my tool kit has two tools to change the spark plugs, but i dont think either one will work for cyl #6. but it would be cool if it does, no more fumbling with extensions and universals and that inch and a half of room to navigate through. Im done, and it works, and im happy, minus the cuts but i will keep that in mind for next time. Thanks.
  18. I have a 97 pathy and i want to change the sparkplugs. I was figuring it would take 30 min at the most. When looking at the sparkplug in the #6 cyl. its a mother to get at, it took me a good 10 min get to put the wire back. The only option i see is taking the upper intake manifold off, but this shouldnt need to be done... or does it? Anyone with advice?
  19. It sounds more like it’s a ball Joint. Does it sometimes make that noise when u go around a corner that puts the trucks weight on that tire? I start with checking the ball joint. Jack your truck up and get someone to grab the wheel from the top and the bottom an wiggle it back and forth. While he/she is doing this watch the ball joint(s) for any abnormal play and listen for the clunk. Let me know how this worked out .
  20. Try looking into filter relocation kits for your rig. I couldn’t find one for mine, but I found one for a CRV that uses the same filter, the only problem is I don’t know if the threads that are in the Pathfinder blocks will match that of the kit for the CRV.
  21. You know come to think of it there is a plastic shield/screen under the wipers, which covers the top of the firewall. On top of that screen there should be a piece of weather striping that seals to the hood make sure that its in good condition. Cause your blower may be sucking warm air from your engine into the cab. Do u also have really bad fogging problems when it rains? Cause I do and your post triggered an idea that my stop fogging in my rig, it may also help with that warm air problem of yours. Ill hopefully post my results soon. Thanks Pathfinder_Rookie
  22. Hey still looking for the ac diagram? I have/had the same problem i had that problem in the summer but when the temp outside started to cool down it worked much better, center setting temp is the perfect setting if its like -20C and you rig is warm and windows are up. Let me know.
  23. Hey man Im glad that someone posted this question. I have the same problem with my 97. I found that if im in 4X and want to go into 2X ill put into overdrive off and accelerate till it shifts then back off the accelerator, this usually works for me when i come on to a paved road from a trail. If your on a trail and just used 4x to go through a hole or rough part put it in 2x and get the tires to spin a bit. This also usually works. Try this let me know how it works for you.
  24. Thanks Guys! I’ve checked out your suggested websites but without luck in finding the bushings, unless i want to order 10,000 of them, which isn’t happening. I went to the dealer and priced out the upper and lower control arms and the pan hard rod it came to 185.00 CAN. When i asked the service guy for any tips for replacing them he laughed at me, and told me to have fun with it. What an hiney. Has anyone done this operation be fore or would i be better off buying the control arms with the bushings already installed?
