I second the biological killer and extraction vaccuum.

My favorite smell killer is "Anti-Icky Poo". It does not mask, it eliminates.

 

We have a Hoover carpet cleaner with upholstery attachment. Worked extremely well. PO of the '87 had a black Lab that loved to run in the red mud we have around here. And she was an avid gardener and used the pathy to haul supplies. Turned out the carpeting and seats were grey... Now they looks funny with the tan mats. They used to match! It took about 3-4 hours to thoroughly clean it, but boy, was it worth it!
