Tail light wiring question

OK, long story short...I bought a 3" round brake light to put in the middle of my spare tire for a third brake light...I'm trying to figure out which wires in the tail light harness to hook into, so that when I step on my brakes...the tail lights light up, plus this new round brake light I bought. The instructions on the new light are pretty vague. I've got it mounted and there's a red and a black wire coming out of the new round brakelight. I know the black is ground, and the red is the power wire....I took the light bulb housing out of the tail light, and there's like a brown, black, and green wire going into that housing. Any help would be appreciated...thanks

Just use what they give you, externally. Red and Black. Ground the black. Find the power that goes to the brake lights, and tap into it.

Thanks...it had dawned on me to finally break down and buy a test light today...too dark now to work on it, but I shall get it done tomorrow. It should all work out fine.

The only other thing I was considering was ground it right to the tire carrier....thoughts on that? I know it might not work...but was just wondering.

I bet the tire carrier would work as a ground, but it's probably not the best one. That's where I would put my ground though

I'm sure you could unplug the harness from the light and test the prongs with a 12V tester to find the hot wire, then tap into it for your power though... Well, maybe.. that's what I would do, but don't always do what I would do unless it sounds like a half-decent way to do something.... Haha.
