Sound when AC turns on

Hey all, i have this sound coming from the front of the engine bay whenever i turn on the AC, kind of sounds like a fluttering sound. I'm not too familiar with AC systems, but wasn't aware of any moving parts. i figured it might be the fan blower for the vents, but when i switch it to "econ" (AC off, just outside air or recycled air), the sound goes away. The air is still cold when the AC is on, seems to work perfectly, just a sound, but i figured maybe something may be loose or unbalanced and i'd hate to have the AC go bad during this summer, especially during a long drive or a camping trip.

Any ideas as to what it may be?

thanks in advance.

ian
