Matthew
I know there are tons of pictures, but I wanted to see what people did with the extra space when you put in a smaller radio. What I'm asking is if I got it installed at best buy, would there be just a big space, or could they put a storage tray there?
CanadianPathyNut
the pathfinder BOSE system is a double DIN opening, when you install a "small" stereo which is a single DIN the kit that is used to make the "small" headunit fit comes with a cut out for storage under the headunit. dagwoodzz
Perhaps good place for switches for O/H lights or x-tra cigerette lighter outlet. Make sure they are on the driver side so you can easily slap naughty passengers who want to push your buttons.
Pezzy
I was able to pick up the extra pocket (a friend had it -- but you can get it from Nissan)
Pezzy
This is from the X, but it's another idea... basically a piece of plexiglass, spray painted & swithes installed.
Matthew
Thanks for the pics; and that is almost the exact radio I was looking at. What model is the one in the Xterra? Edited March 6, 2006 by Matthew
Pezzy
Not sure off hand, it's a step above the one I have in the pathy -- but it's also a couple years old.
Pezzy
oh, I lied... it's listed on my website hahaha Panasonic CQ-C8400 CD/MP3 the most updated version of it is this one: http://www.panasonic.ca/English/car/caraud...ers/cqc8413.asp
Matthew
I've also been thinking of replacing the 6 disc CD changer; if I were to go with the Panasonic radio, would the CD changers they sell fit into the space where my Bose one is?
Trialsin26
That's a nice job on the switches in the X Pezzy. You didn't borrow my idea
Pezzy
Actually I saw yours quite a while after the hubby did his, but I like yours... seems my tray there is different, we checked it out - doesnt look like I can steal your idea afterall... Sorry Matthew, I have no idea what the Bose changer looks like... I'd say get an MP3 Player then you can burn muliple CD's on one disk - and have lots of tunes for the road! Matthew
What I mean is, for anyone who has the Bose 6 CD changer, can you replace that with a CD changer compatible with an new CD player?
RowOSU
new CD player meaning aftermarket? Well you will be hard pressed to find an in dash aftermarket 6disc. I looked, pioneer used to make one but they aren't any more and that unit is few and far between on the ol' ebay. As for the BOSE unit, I know in the 01's it sucks and ends up breaking, happened to my fathers. We got a standard in dash nissan 6 disc changer off ebay and it plugged right in and worked fine. Trialsin26
RowOSU - I know all about that 6 CD changer in the 01. I paid $110.00 to get it fixed and 6 months later it's broke again. Luckly I have my XM so I'm ok for now. I'm also going to replace the head unit soon. Edited March 8, 2006 by Trialsin26
